Who switched to Windows Ten
If you switched to Windows Ten how has it worked for you. Is it better than 8.1 or just leave well alone. Ultimately how does it work along side Sonar?

No contest. Win 10 is great, except for that new browser Edge( maybe it's just me), but IE is still there. Bapu was over yesterday and we were in Sonar for a couple of hours banging around, no issues at all. I have not had a crash since opting in at build 10130(still a bit buggy), but every iteration after that has been rock solid...

I love Windows 10. Way better than Windows 8 - which I also loved. NOTE: If you have any Edirol gear there are no working drivers yet. Other than that I haven't seen any gear that isn't working on W10. Thanks for nothing Edirol ;-)

Win10 is not even released yet. If you are gonna test beta software that's the sort of things you are gonna yet. Choice is yours :)

Are you saying there are no Win 10 certified drivers or that there are no Windows 7 or 8 drivers that work under Win 10? Microsoft and their minions have frequently stated that any driver that works on those systems should work on W10. If that is true, then I would not expect many developers to do new drivers for Windows 10.

The idea here is to try and make it seamless. Old drivers working helps that, and if the only thing that needs changing is what version it works with.................eazy-peazy.. If the new features of 10 don't address their particular driver, than there you have it. They changed a few instructions in the program so that stupid "what version is this?" crap will work. Don't make it seem harder than it is.

I did switch to build 162 and 166 now, I had to hack my Edirol driver to load my PCR-800 but life is all good now, got all my devices working. This was by far the smoothest upgrade I have done. I was able to load my Sonar project right after the upgrade (yes, everything else worked, ilok, Presonus firewire drivers, hundreds of VST, etc.). No "major" difference in Sonar but everything feels smoother and more reactive even under a heavy load. Really impressed that all the devices came alive and haven't seen any software incompatibility yet except the Edirol installer.

There is a small edit you can do in the .inf file to remove the specific version dependency (I think Roland locked the drivers for Win 8 and 8.1). All I did was replace all the Roland.NTamd64.blabla with Roland.NTamd64 in the .inf file and magic happened.

Sounds pretty decent I think I will wait until the official release date then upgrade to windows 10 Focusrite on their webpage have stated that they are ensuring that all their drivers are working for windows 10. I am glad that they are keeping up and informing customers. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition as some have stated here. I am scared of Cortana no woman is faithful and I wonder who she will be sharing my information with 'Hey Cortana, what is Dappa1 doing today pull out all his files from the last six months check his accounts and what he has bought' 'He has bought Sonar Platinum a few plug ins and he has a new girlfriend I am jealous...what else do you want to know, his account number?'

No Cortana for me - I don't speak with the required accent. Google's voice recognition works perfectly with my Kiwi accent, but MS aren't even allowing Cortana to work outside of a limited number of locations. I have read that you need an approved "microphone array" to use it anyway.

My recommendation is wait a bit after it is out for companies to certify their software/hardware with 10. Some companies are already on it, and most things run fine, no changes needed, but just give it a couple weeks or a month after release. Most companies should iron out any lingering issues pretty quick.

As has been mentioned, Win10 hasn't been officially released. By very definition, you are beta-testing (albeit at the Release Candidate stage). Most things work fine... but I'd sit it out for a couple of months. Wait for BIOS, firmware, driver, and Windows updates to smooth out early issues.

Some of us like to help out by being early adopters. Some don't. So is it bug avoidance, being smart, or responsibility avoidance? There will always be bugs. I remember a fellow who took so long to decide whether to upgrade to a 386, that Pentiums were flying off the shelves before he ever made a decision.

For my own use, based on what I've done with Win 10 Preview versions, I'll upgrade when its made available. I haven't had any problems so far and don't expect the final RTM version to "break" anything I use. I'm only upgrading my Win 8.1 install. I'm keeping my Win 7 install so if some remote chance Win 10 doesn't work out, I still have Win 7.

I've been using it since the first draft relief. Build 10159 crashed the C Drive on my Computer. Fortunately, nothing lived there but the os. I tried doing the recovery and that didn't work, tried startup repair didn't work, so finally had to resinstall everything. It took a couple of days. But it would have take a whole lot longer if I had to had to reinstall all of my samples and soundsets.
It has been perfectly fine for me, and the latest version is snappy and nice! It is a marked improvement over Win 8.1, which was very stable for me.
To me, it's better to jump in with both feet and learn it, rather then live in fear and then sit back and just go along for the ride...YMMV

I'd prefer making sure everything works for everybody else before I jump in. Historically all windows releases have had big problems for the first six months I don't see how this could be any different, there just seems to be more publicity and PR behind the preview. As far as learning the new OS is concerned... How long is that going to take for existing users ? A couple of hours and maybe a week getting used to it?

Define "everybody else"? All SONAR users (whether on the forum or not)? All converted MAC users? All Win XP -> Win 10 users (including batsbrew)? Every man woman and child on the earth armed with an audio interface?
