And will the boxed version be packed in the regular big box with Sonar logo and everything or just in small Sonar X1 boxes for DVDs, just as the boxed version of 8.5 was?

Yup, it's the regular big box. Same as the one you wold buy at a retail store.

Then you have my 129 EUR :)

The boxed version with manual (64 page Quick Start), DVD's etc is $29.99.

Ouch.

I don't have high speed broadband at home (stuck on a 3G due to where I live), so I won't be able to download the X1 upgrade.

I'm afraid this is going to be a deal breaker for me. I was having a hard enough time justifying the $99.00, but add another $30.00 on top ... I'm going to have to pass.

Sorry, but that's asking too much.

Bub,

You will be able to purchase a hard copy version of the upgrade from various online retailers, many of whom don't charge for shipping and/ or tax if you are out of state. Obviously you won't get the download option, but if you prefer a hard copy and only a hard copy then perhaps that will be a s0olution that will work for you?

But we won't get the upgrade price that way, will we? I doubt 3rd party retailers are going to want to sell their $400 product for $99...

Sure you can get the upgrade price that way. Many retailers sell hard copies of our upgrades, like Sweetwater, Musician's Friend, West LA Music, etc.

The $399 version is the full version of SONAR X1 for new customers.

Sweetwater checks that you have a valid Serial number to qualify for the upgrade price.
As Seth said if you don't live in Indiana no tax and free shipping.

D00d, $99 is like a gift from the skies. Too much? Really?

As for the download, have a friend wit hi-speed download it and burn it for you if $30 is a "Deal breaker" (also hilarious).

But please people keep the wacky scenarios coming. I'm waiting for a "If I buy the boxed version on a train leaving Chicago travelling 30mph and run intro a friend with the downloaded version who had taken a train from Florida... will his mixes sound 20-40% better?"

Indeed,

$99 is a bargain in the DAW market world. A few times talking the family to the movies? The workflow is a HUGE improvement over previous versions and Im sure Noel has some under the hood info to surprise us with.

I cant wait for the 8th!

That's what I mean. You can't get the FULL version (i.e., one that can be installed without any need of 8.5 or its packaged materials) at the upgrade price in other stores, right?

Really? I didn't see that... Is it within the checkout process?...

The upgrade that you buy online from us and from a store are the same in that they are both standalone installers of X1. Neither version requires 8.5 to be installed before installing X1. The reason its called an upgrade is the price, that you need a previous version of SONAR to register it, and that it is not shipped in the full retail box.

So if you live in an area where you just don't have the bandwidth to download X1 from us, then purchasing the hard copy at a retailer is a good way to go.

I believe we'll have free shipping in December.

But my stamp licking is indeed priceless.

Is that "Free Shipping!*" or actual free shipping?

*Only applies in continental USA of course.  What, people live other places?

At any rate, ditch the free shipping if you offer downloads.  You are only encouraging people to ship empty* cardboard boxes around the world.  Save free shipping for HW products.

*Ok, not strictly empty, but might as well be if people have already downloaded it.

Can't you get someone to download it for you?  They might do it for $14.99!  After all, if you order the box you would probably expect someone to deliver it for you...

Sorry, it's not the full one million page manual. It's a 64 page quick start manual. (I edited my original post so it's more clear).

...that's NO good news, unfortunately...

A FULL paper manual is much more comfortable to be read than a pdf file...

That's a real pity...

My wife and I were looking at a Kindle yesterday. You can view PDF's, but they aren't in color, and I don't know if there's a file size limitation.

One cool feature is, the Kindle will read text to you, and amazingly clear. The male voice is better than the female voice.

I just double checked my online invoice to make sure I was remembering this right ...

On 10/07/09 I was billed $8.95 for shipping to have the DVD's sent to me when I upgraded from 8.0 to 8.5. Nothing for the DVD's, just shipping.

Ah well, whatya do.

I guess this isn't a hobby for the poor.

You can't order it from them yet since it's not for sale yet. X1 goes on sale on Dec. 8th, so I would bet that its not even in Sweetwater's inventory yet since they don't have it in stock. In their case, they will get it a few days after Dec. 8th since that's the day it leaves our warehouse.

That I'm not sure of, but I think they should ship on the 8th since they're in our warehouse. Retailers have to wait to get their inventory from us before they can get it to you, hence the slight delay on their end.
