I'm guessing you mean "now time". I don't experience any "now time" bug with X3E. Without knowing exactly what version of Sonar you are on, or what exactly this issue is (steps to repro), or Cake's current plans in terms of whether there will be an X3F which may or may not fix this apparent bug, well my answer is ... ??? right now :) Please enlighten us. Cheers...

I rarely see this complaint anymore so yeah... are you on X3(e) yet VV? I think I MAY have gotten it a couple times in X1 or X2 but I was more concerned with other nonsense (that has disappeared now) to notice it.

I'm on X3e and I still have it.

As most don't seem to be getting this issue with X3E, please give us specific steps to repro from a brand new project leaving nothing out so we can repro (I could repro with X3D but not X3E). Without exact steps it would be extremely unlikely your issue will ever be resolved. Thanks :)

I make my living in music and I don't really have the luxury of stopping work to troubleshoot. The bug has been there for a while and others have had it. If I have to pay to get it fixed it will be just another reason to use Cubase more and avoid Sonar. I just need to get some work done.

Right. But if it can't be repro'd by other users or the Bakers so it can be handed off to the developers to fix then it likely won't end up on the list of things to be fixed... especially if they are under the impression it HAS been fixed. It's pretty late in the release cycle though. I don't really see them putting out another patch at this point. I would personally like to see the Baker adopt a policy of releasing one final patch for versions before moving on so people can linger on what they have if they are happy but that's not really good business sense in the world's current business philosophy. It would have been better to report this five months ago when they were cranking out patches like crazy. It might be a hardware specific thing that they could have dealt with. I'm assuming they are in full X4 mode right now.

Hey Vintage vibe... I am no person of merit in techish tactics...or of any influences in, or for liking Bug fixing or hashing out either..\(newbee)...But if you take the time to express the problem fully...and You have this bug with said software, or any other...It could help others find or solve for it? , when the bug is reproducible (on certain systems of likeness)....To solve for it, with your help...Is all they are asking for...in gaining that info....and in making the software even better than X, Y <Z Stienberg>...Would be the outcome for all, If CW takes notice of the postings here?....They are around you known, from time to time!...So I know they do read these forums!. Now that may be a little hard work, or so on your part?...But would it not be rewarding in the end, if it gets solved for? , to offer up a freebee on your part...To address this issue?...Just asking, and saying...If you do not address the issue correctly or dispose the info asked for by others, who do help so many people here , You will never solve the Problem, by posting here....And it will continue until someone does it....and Gives the details to reproduce, which could take time... And it is over for you, and them, when you, or they do that, and it becomes, the technical tech base here who play a big roll in solving for X, and the Builders issue to look into....If you or they, cannot make this Producible state reoccur on others systems of likeness, and the techs here who do try to solve problems for CW, and PC Builds here, and then send them (CW) the bug issues/steps to gain/setup/system specs/devices and OS build... If they can reproduce, with your instructions this bug,... then to move it towards CW, if they cannot solve but agree with you there is a issue...Then How are you going to gain Bliss?..or make it be for others if this is a Bug ?....and I am not saying there is not a bug or bugs...nor am I saying there isn't or aren't any. There is a support line for CW, and it is free to call?......You could call them...But, you would still have to give the info they will ask you for, and steps to reproduce the Bug...or bugs. Just saying....and I wish you that Bliss!...and in every camp or forum I have been to...they all have Bugs of some kind!...WINK!

I've had since X2 and several other on this board have reported it since X2. My understanding is that it has been reported. I've had it through 2 video cards, hard drivse and Win 7 and Win 8.1. Can't see a scenero where it would be hardware related anyway.

It was reported a while back and it has been fixed in X3E. Members of the community gave feedback that it was working in X3E for them. I would assume then this is deemed as fixed and is no longer regarded as a bug. So you are left with three options: 1) Give us exact steps to repro in your scenario (see post #5) and we will try and reproduce at our end to confirm the issue. 2) Give Cakewalk a call and ask them if it is still a known issue in X3E that we don't know about here in the forums. Or maybe they can nail it down to a PC configuration issue. 3) Live with it. Be aware that not even the mighty Cakewalk will not be able to fix a bug like this without full steps to repro from somewhere.
Cheers... Alex

Right but that was in X2 and Alex seems to have confirmed it was a reproduceable problem up to X3d but hasn't had it in X3e. I think it may have even been logged on one of the "fixed" lists for one of the patches (but I am not sure). So if it does remain in X3e then it needs to be confirmed that it is still a problem for some users. It may be hardware/configuration specific at this point and you may be the answer to it getting solved. If you can't provide a recipe (because sometimes these things are intermittent) then at least report it to them with your system specs and as much detail as you can and maybe they can pinpoint it themselves. I'm on your side, man. I had a lot of the same issues you did throughout the X2 fiasco. I'd like the last of those quirks stamped out of existence as I'm sure the Bakers do as well. Cheers.

ok...So when you upgraded to X3x...Did you do a complete reinstall of Win?... Here is my problem...I was trying out this Thunderbolt system with many DAWS...It was working sort of smashingly...until I started getting into the use of my plugins... I cloned the Drive from a different system, which brought the Machine ID along with it, into the new Board and builds I now have/had in use below, in my spec. On the old system, Acid Pro 7.0e continually crashed....And screwed up a lot of data in the OS, with data dumps, and Sonar along with it...So as to cause issues with other things, when I used it. Any way the new Build with the cloned drive...I had a tech geek in to try to solve the error events...Not Possible, using Arconis bare metal backup, to fix the machine ID...which it did do!...the os was corrupted...but it worked fantastically for awhile in record mode and play back in sonar x3e..with thunderbolt and firewire adapter. I got MS to remote view...Again not possible to solve for the issues the board and its drivers were throwing up in error reports in event viewer, with the cloned drive. So I did a Bios update, reinstalled the OS win 7 64 bit...And then tried to put all the new drivers for the board, downloaded from ASUS....Some of those Drivers would not install properly....So as a Raw Build, I went back to MS Tech support , to have them Remote control, and seek out the issues...With nothing installed other that Drivers that would install, and those that would not, and some MS updates....It took 4 days to solve with a level 3T tech ...and get the system working properly. Just installing Drivers...MS did something in the device manager...to show Ghost Devices...Not sure what he did...but I could see solid devices, and some kind of greyed out...The greyed out ones were Ghost device drivers put in, that were conflicting with the installed Drivers....As I tried several times to install what I thought were the most up to date Drivers for my Motherboard...which seemed not to want to install on this system they were designed for. MS is still scratching their heads, Most likely? So you see...It is not always the Software, or the OS, or the Board, or devices upon it....Sometimes it is Just Pilot error...Sometimes it is all of the above.... So no worries...There are ways to find out....Just have to make the move...and dig in..or do not ...the problem remains...only until solved for....And for that solution someone with the issue has to dig into it...and post up...all info as best they can...or tell the builders...or get a tech head onboard to seek out ... Just saying...Somethings are not always evident to the eye of the beholder, until uncovered by those who see, or have the tools to do so , and know how to use them!.... Again nothing But blessings, in wishing you that Bliss we all seek!

I looked into this further, looks like my memory failed me, the issue I was thinking about was lag with the now time... which was fixed in X3E. Sorry. So this is a different issue, I'm not familiar with any steps to reproduce an issue with a disappearing now time marker. BTW I would consider updating your display drivers, and making sure Windows update is up to date (including most of the optional updates) at this point. Cheers...

Bottom line, there's no point complaining about an issue if your not willing to put time in and follow advice given here on how to resolve it. I visit and read this forum every day and have yet to read a thread with a disappearing Now Time marker. And I agree the first place I'd look is my Video display drivers, Or at my DPCLatency. Run the DPCLAT test and see if some background process is interfearing.

Just to make sure, when being addressed to update Video Drivers, Or system Drivers...is best to uninstall old ones.... Alex, >..not much to understand really in that post....Right?...And if one does not do that correctly...Ghosting Devices will be installed...and cause Issues!....As I said....So...Take it from there people....And may you all find Bliss...Perhaps?...Sometime it starts at the beginning of installation of WIN...and Drivers...unsuppectingly seeming normal procedure for the OS to do ...and then most move to install the board's latest drivers and software...Not knowing some devices have been installed by MS doing its things, once it finds a path to update....And usually does install its own versions of Drivers, before one boots up for the first time in that installation.....Wink wink....So are we on the same page?....Probably not...but you will be soon! Cheers!

I remember an issue with the disappearing now time marker, both personally and reported on here. It was quite a while ago, though. Possibly X2, if not X1. I have certainly not experienced it with X3e, or seen any other posts about it. I would have thought that if this were still a general issue with X3e, then some forum members would be bringing it to our attention on a regular basis. As it doesn't appear regularly, then there must be something else afoot with your system, I would have thought. Contacting Support is probably your best option.

@Sir Les - Well NVidia driver nowadays come with a clean install option nowadays. I'm not sure about other install packages from other manufacturers. I'm certainly not against clean reinstalls. I doubt any other device drivers would cause the issue. If there was a firmware upgrade for the graphics card that is a possibility as well but I don't normally give that out as general advice (firmware updates for graphics cards can be a different kettle of fish compared with other firmware updates which are quite consumer friendly nowadays). Cheers..

Yes Alex, so does ATI, But the ATI uninstaller did not see "MS ATI driver" when I clicked on "uninstall option" for that driver...Why?...not sure about that ...With my Problem...MS WIN 7 updater put the wrong Chipset in...right from the get go...And it took the MS 3T guy to resolve it, as I could not, or the other tech 2 level dudes, as it said the device was functioning properly, I paid it no mind or worry, nor did they!...And the Drivers for certain things this board supports, would not install correctly or at all, because of these issues MS created for me?, on the latest installation of OS, thought correct was not at all!...MS auto updates also installed My "Video card Driver"...which had a conflict with a unknown device on the MB...AMDA00.(AI suite sensor?)..Was part of the PNP0A0A in its description...So we narrowed that down to the AMDA00 Driver, which could not be installed due to the conflicting Device chain, and ghosting issues, now made by those incorrect MS updates, and us trying to, over and over again!....And it took several Techs from MS ..to Get to the last 3T level tech to solve for all the corruption, many bad tries to install drivers that would not....Where I found my Bliss, when he did what he did, in showing those ghost device drivers installed....And once it was done, and they were all removed, and we started over, without MS updates Updating anything...And I got all the drivers put in right first for the board and the video card, and MS updates installed correctly after for WIN 7 64 bit on this system, as he used some scripts to remove and or resolve MS update failures ..and all was said to be fine with the system there after, and the unknown device, once in other deice listing page/ now in System device page, still there under that name, but installed correctly....I made backups of that installation...and moved slowly in installing third party drivers...and backed that up, and so on and so forth....One step at a time, check the systems event logs, before moving forward each time....From the beginning....It is the only way to make sure!...Right?...Firmware could cause issues with older drivers being used after flashing the eprom chips ,...also....So, best to check all angles...and keep notes!....Blessings are what I was intending to put forward.....I hope all can have some Bliss, or move towards it, with that info I posted in the link, if all else fails? or before hand?.......and other solutions being placed here...might help solve for this blink out of time lines? It could be a video issue...surely...why?... is still unknown...so could be, should be, might be, and etc...are in order? Oh and I stand by ..."Sometimes updating drivers makes things worse"....sometimes Alex...sometimes....now I know why in some regards....eh? Thanks Alex for being there for us all! Regards...and cheers!

vintagevibe ...I make my living in music and I don't really have the luxury of stopping work to troubleshoot...
You played the "P" card there without actually using the "P" word.

Lol.. It would probably be quicker to troubleshoot than read this thread now to be honest.

vintagevibe If I have to pay to get it fixed it will be just another reason to use Cubase more and avoid Sonar. I just need to get some work done.
http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=184 Just sayin'... And that's NOT to pick on Cubase...if you'd mentioned any DAW I could have found something equivalent. Anything that runs on Windows is going to have problems and those problems are going to differ. Think the Mac will solve your problems? Here's a forum devoted to issues regarding a piece of software designed by a company to run only on their hardware... http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=42 Point is you will have problems with any DAW. At some point you have to decide whether to live with them, address them...or take up knitting instead

The now time line ... the line that runs vertically is totally invisible in the Piano Roll view when it is sitting on a bar line. Thankfully I was able to change the color of the inverted pyramid at the top of it to bright red so I can at lest see something. I can't imagine why it's not using the same type of graphic that is in the track view because the one in the track view is very nice and easily seen.

Beepster I rarely see this complaint anymore so yeah... are you on X3(e) yet VV? I think I MAY have gotten it a couple times in X1 or X2 but I was more concerned with other nonsense (that has disappeared now) to notice it.
I'm on X3e and I still have it.
Sorry to hear you are still dealing with this I created at least one post about this last year. I had a couple of graphical quirks when using Sonar X2a and the disappearing Now Time marker was one of them. I opened a support ticket but the issue was random and not reproducible so it didn't go anywhere. It persisted despite trying different drivers and video cards and no other application that had ever run on this system experienced any such issues. There was also another graphical annoyance in X2a that I could resolve by disabling the aim assist line in the PRV. When enabled, it would visually cut off the ends of the midi notes as it passed over them. I have also seen this behavior in X2 video tutorials on Groove3. So far I have not experienced the now time problem in X3e (keeping fingers crossed). Also, the aim assist line in the PRV no longer corrupts the display of the notes. I just opened X2a on the same system and it's still graphically chopping off the ends of notes in the PRV.

It goes without saying that they all have problems. It's just that this one causes me to have to restart the program and has been there for years. Anderton Point is you will have problems with any DAW. At some point you have to decide whether to live with them, address them...or take up knitting instead Finding a working solution would be more productive than knitting.

You have 3 options. And I spoke about updating. Over to you then and keep us updated should you decide to take action, sadly there is no magic wand here, nobody is going to do it for you..
