X2 this year?

What do you guys think?

or should the Bakers just continue to update X1?

Well, if X2 is coming out by Oct or Nov, I hope it will have significant improvements for Staff view!

I thought the Smart Tools was a great way to spice things up. Took some getting used to, and it does remember editing paths taken in the project, so anything I've been working on, the tool knows what I want to do according to context with in the project.

It sure didn't seem to know when I wanted to tweak a volume envelope or a clip pan envelope last night.  Or a clip gain envelope...  unless I pressed the automation button on the track.  In regards to automation envelopes, I still feel the old way was better.  ( An envelope lane would be better still.)

Shift + left click is the quickest way to switch to do that or shift+right click to switch between the last two edit filter states.

I'm hoping this thread will become the "what I want in *any* version of SONAR.

    Those are my favorite threads.

Oh yeah, and lest we forget; someone should chime in and say until Xx is as solid as 8.5.3 they're not going to upgrade.

BTW, I want folders in folders, full color customization, individual track solo on multi-out drums when a drum map is used.

    Oh, wait a second....

Since we're on the topic, automation is and has been my #1 hope for the next version.  I don't totally dislike what's there, but I definitely see room for improvement.   I wouldn't mind some layers rework too.    Oh, and just a little more color customization (like ghosted envelopes) would be sweet.    And while I don't hold much hope for the SV, a few minor fixes and tweaks there would be very much appreciated too - it's one view I'd like to use more.

X2 will be released in November, and will require Windows 8 to run. The new track view will be based on Metro, meaning Track View and Matrix View will now be one and the same.

I love the automation as it is but I really really would like to see a popup over ghosted data to make it perfect for me. (Have I mentioned that before... )

I wouldn't mind some layers rework too.

Any option other than the current two - "Higgledepiggledy" & "Pot luck", for layers sort would be welcomed by me.

    Higgledepiggledy

I've noticed quite a bias against Higgledepiggledy around here...

And speaking of bias, did anyone catch that Bias (as in Peak) is apparently going out of business?  Sorry for the OT.

YEUCK !!! I just watched this walk thru of Windows 8 and I will NOT be buying it. It's absolutely horrible !!! If X2 will only work with Windows 8, too bad, I won't be buying that either. I absolutely HATE Windows 8.

    Please, just keep updating X1.

    My thoughts:
    (1) I assumed that X1 stood for 2011 - so there'll be an X2 before the end of 2012;  Probably Q4.
    (2) The Cakewalk forward development team are separate from the menders.
    (3) CW needs more subtantial continuous revenue streams than those gleaned from add-ons.

What will be in X2 I can't imagine, but it's always fun to speculate!

Yeah, Win 8 looks grim for desktop / mouse use. If you watch a video focused exclusively on touchscreen use on tablets, it's actually quite impressive, (though still not as nice as the iPad IMO). But the schizophrenic switching between a Windows interface and the new interface for desktop use is laughably stupid. So far, to me, this looks like the biggest howler Microsoft have ever made. I'm guessing the number of people really crying out for a hybrid tablet and desktop OS that doesn't quite pull off either is somewhere around zero.

X1 is (X one) not the number eleven.

X + the letter 'I" is Roman numerals for the number eleven (11).

SONAR is called X one. this point was made clear along time ago by Seth and Brandon.
Will the next version be X Two?

who knows? Maybe Cakewalk will follow Presonus and call it X One Two i.e. X1 2.
