"Touch support for Intel-Inspired Ultrabooks and other touch-enabled devices."

What does this mean, exactly, vis-a-vis X2 in a Windows 8 environment?

Could I buy a touch screen monitor and use it with multi-touch, e.g., riding multiple faders as once?  If so, wouldn't that be huge, like having Sonar on an iPad, but with all the power of a PC and a much larger screen?  Ultimate control surface and monitor in one?

I realize they are expensive, but could one use dual touch screens, lay them at a gentle angle (so as to not have to reach up so high) and have a virtual "console" at your fingertips?

And plugin control via touch?  Could be amazing after all these years of fighting with ACT, Automap, and the like (granting the limitations and quirks of touchscreen over tactile pots and faders).

What am I missing here (probably a lot).

Stuff.

Why not get one touch screen and lay it flat. Use it as if its a control surface. I believe Windows 8 and X2a may give us this ability. This has been in the back of my thoughts ever since Windows 8 came out.

Yes X2A will work with any touch enabled monitor or on touch enabled ultrabooks. It should also work on the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro. There are several multitouch enabled monitors available now, some cheaper with 2 touch points and a bit more expensive with about 20 touch points like this one.

As far as multitouch operations go, the console, matrix and track view have been optimized for multitouch gestures. In the console you can operate multiple faders at one time and in the matrix you can turn on multiple cells at one time. You can also zoom and pinch zoom gestures and swipe across the screen to scroll, touch to select tracks etc.
You can also touch plugin controls to manipulate them.

Its definitely a huge workflow enhancement to have multitouch support built in, and an alternative in some ways to a control surface. Its very intuitive and effective to use and in many cases quicker than using a mouse. The touch workflow is very addictive once you start using it.  Marketing will have some videos showing this in action soon.

Besides the new features and Win 8 support, there are tons of fixes and improvements. Over 150 issues in our database were resolved.

Really looking forward to the touch screen support.

I've become really used to touch gestures, not only on my iPad but also my mac (which I use at work for developing software).  I'm still more of a PC guy at heart (although Windows 8 tries my patience at times), and I still like to use a mouse and regular keyboard for some things, but I have to say that the touch gestures can be very expressive and intuitive if you have proper hardware and software support.
Often when developing software I'll switch over to my Windows development environment on my Mac, and the Apple hardware coupled with its touch gestures offered a superior experience then a native Windows one.  However some of the new hardware aimed at Windows 8 touch seem very promising and I can say that their tactile experience mimics what I have grown accustomed to, so that's good news.

Windows 8 still has a number of anomalies that I continue to find annoying at best, and baffling at worst, but I'm learning to work around those.  Hopefully Microsoft sorts those out sooner than later...

So X2 was supposed to be a Win 7 compatible application when most of us bought it.

Will the X2a update install on Win 7?

If not will the bug fixes that are supposed to be included in the update be available to users of Win 7, or will these and future bug fixes be available to Win 7 (let alone Vista) users?

IOW will future support (repair) of X2 be only for Win 8 users?

Yes, X2 updates will work on Windows 7. Windows Vista? Don't know. But definitely yes, on both Win 7 and 8.

Totally underwhelmed by the prospect of touch support - I have no need for it although I understand others do. I just hope these new touch features don't make up the bulk of the "exciting new features and enhancements."

And like most people, I'd rather have 1 bug fixed than 10 exciting new features. Still looking forward to it though.

Sharke and Saxon are right!
I tracked a 6 hour PAID session on Saturday Win7x64, Sonar X1d Expanded.
Without a SINGLE issue!
Both 7 and X1 are "Mature" platforms.
Noel and Ryan; Get back to me when X2 is ready for prime time, will ya?
I'm having issues, albeit small, EVERYTIME I run X2 x64.
And I will admit I like the look and feel, I do all my own new projects in X2.
But no way would I run it with a client in the room; NO WAY!

Yes very nice indeed. I'm sold. It won't help me make music any better than a standard mouse, but its proper bondesque mission control so I want one.
Now, I see the small touchscreens on offer for a couple of hundred pounds, 22 inch jobbies. But how much for the big muvvaz with the tilt ****, and where can I get one before Christmas?

I have seen this one on offer at pc world and I like the size (82 inch), its a very reasonable £41000 inc vat. But that is slightly out of my price range.
