X3 - Drag and Drop WAV Files... Only Through Browser?

Hi, All. I used to be able to drag .wav files from my desktop and drop them on a track in Sonar. Now, this seems to only be possible through the browser. Is that correct?

Maybe it dependant on the characteristics of the WAV file itself, I've just done it in X3D and it created a new track.
    Cheers...

This annoys me too....I cant seem to drag anything consistently from Win Explorer into Sonar unless I am missing something.

    *just tested again*

Alex is entirely correct, it depends on the codec/format etc

I wonder why that is.  Drag and drop has always worked fine for me. if i am dragging to a track.  I do wish one could drag samples into programs like SD3 from explorer

I drag-and-drop files both to and from the desktop all the time. Maybe you're trying to move an incompatible file type or something?

Thanks for your quick responses. I'm hoping there's a setting that affects this. I can drag a .wav from Sonar to the desktop, but I can't drag the very same .wav back into Sonar - except through the browser. It's hard to imagine that a file dragged out of Sonar would be incompatible with Sonar.

Seems to work here running SONAR X3d 64bit as administrator on Win7. Also, if they are broadcast waves make sure Preferences > File > Audio Data "Always Import Broadcast Waves At Their Timestamp" is not checked.

It's not checked. Thanks, though. Also, I am running Sonar as an administrator.

Huh for me it's been the opposite, I never could and then the other day it just seemed to work all of a sudden. I figured they'd "fixed" it, but it looks like it may be dependent on other things.

Bizarro. I just checked X2 and it no longer works there either. This is comforting in that it appears to not be an X3 (or X2 - given that I know it used to work) issue, but makes me wonder what the heck has changed with my system that I'm no longer able to do this.

I do not use the feature but just tested it in 64bit versions of X1d Producer Expanded and X2a Producer on Win7 and it works for me there too.

I just dragged 4 .wav files from the windows explorer right in to sonar x3 without a hitch.
works perfect, I would look in to what kind of files these are.

and is it that hard to diret your browser to the dektop to drag the files in ?
I would try that first to see if there is a problem with the files first.
possibly an issue with drag/drop with 24 bit/48 files.

When I tested it in X2a on Win 7 I had to launch the program NOT as administrator to make it work. I haven't tested it in X3 yet.

I've tested dragging audio files (wav, mp3 and aiff) from both the desktop and a folder into X3d Track View just now and.....it works fine whether I run Sonar as administrator or not. It wasn't like this when I tried it this summer when I was on X2a. Sonar didn't accept audio files dragged from outside when it was run as administrator. The reason why I tried it is because there was a poster who mentioned the issue, in this post:
    http://forum.cakewalk.com/Run-as-administrator-m2868836.aspx#2868897

So I've run X2a as administrator now to test it again. And, strangely, it works fine as well (although the window refused to resize for some reason so I couldn't try dragging a file from the desktop).
I re-installed my OS (Win 7 64-bit) a few months ago so maybe that fixed the issue for me. Sorry Alex...

Won't not running as admin cause other issues for those plugs that require it?

If you move your VST's away from the Program Files folder then no. My view is VST's should not be installed in that path in the first place and Cake should change the default. Oh and yes the Pentagon soft synth won't run but that's a bug with the soft synth. Cakewalk shouldn't need admin permissions anyway.
