Hi Danny, Glad you like the new DAW! I have 8.5 (full) install media here... where v8 doesn't need to be installed first. With the downloaded 8.5 upgrade, v8 does have to be installed first... as the 8.5 upgrade "borrows" some files. Smooth Transition to x64: - Make sure your audio interface has rock-solid Win7 x64 drivers.
- Win7 x64 runs best on current generation hardware. If you don't have reasonably current hardware, stick with WinXP.
- Keep 32Bit and 64Bit program/plugin installs separate and organized. (Pay careful attention when installing)
With BitBridge2, JBridge, and the 32Bit install of Sonar as a fail-safe... you're pretty much "bullet-proof" (Cue that repetitive Brit-pop tune)

Danny Danzi Shane_B. Danny Danzi A few weeks ago, we got tornado warnings here in NJ. This is extremely rare for us, but these warnings were unlike any I've ever seen or heard in all the years I've been here. Usually we get "tornado watch" but never a warning. Wow! That is rare. The last tornado warning I remember back in Jersey was in like 81 or 82. :) I live in Iowa now and we get them weekly! LOL! I was afraid to come out of my frickin' house for about a year when I first moved out here. LOL! Glad to hear someone's 64bit experience went well. I wish I would have contacted Jim before building my PC. Didn't know about him at the time. I'm half tempted to box up my PC and send to him with a blank check and a note saying, "Make it work, or sacrifice it to the PC Gods and send me one that does work." :) Shane Yeah you know how rare they are here! Wow Shane, how the heck can you live there with weekly tornado warnings? Don't you worry about losing your home, your personal stuff etc? I go to Cedar Rapids all the time...and everytime I get there a tornado warning when I'm there, I ask myself if it's worth me going there all the time. LOL! Beautiful place...but man, I could never handle that tornado stuff all the time. Be safe brother! It's not easy, and yes, I worry constantly about losing my house. AAMOF there is a roll off dumpster sitting in my driveway as we speak. Last week we had 10" of rain in 2 days, the power went out, sump pumps didn't kick on, 6" of water in my basement and lost almost everything down there. 750LP's and 400 45's. ;( Some of them got wet once before and I salvaged them, this time I gave up and they're in the dumpster now. Two weeks before that we had 70MPH winds and it took the shingles off my garage, I just fixed that on Sunday. Why did I move here again? LOL! :) I just went through CR a couple of weeks ago on the way back from Custer SD. Back to the PC subject :) ... I've been having horrible problems with the BSOD. It ended up being a bad stick of RAM so I RMA'd it out. Got the replacement, put it in, it was bad ... and it fried the remaining RAM that was good, so now I have no reliably working RAM in my PC and constant crashes. I contacted newegg.com and they agreed to let me return all the RAM and give me store credit to get a different brand because I am done with Corsair. I thought that was pretty decent of them since I am well beyond the 30 day return policy they have.

I can't wait to get 64bit compatible drivers for Windows 7 64bit for my RealTek On-Laptop-Motherboard-Soundcard someday soon. I trust Danny's opinion that is worth the effort to jump to 64bit implicitly. Danny Danzi Hi guys, I just felt the need to do a little bragging about a few things. I know, it's not nice to brag or boast, but when something comes into your world that totally changes things for the better and you have a new sense of "holy sh!t!?" everytime you experience it, (like when you get a new car and you look forward to each drive for like the first 6 months lol) it's worth telling a few thousand friends about it. :) A few weeks ago, we got tornado warnings here in NJ. This is extremely rare for us, but these warnings were unlike any I've ever seen or heard in all the years I've been here. Usually we get "tornado watch" but never a warning. So you better believe I was terrified. I grabbed all my cash, locked up my favorite guitars and grabbed my dad (not in that order lol) and prepared for what was supposed to be some extreme weather. I powered down all my stuff and unplugged all the important stuff just to play it safe. Well, in 10 minutes, the storm came and went. We had a little rain, a little wind and some thunder and lightning and that was it. We didn't even lose power. Thank God that's all it was. So, I plugged my stuff back in and decided to start a mastering job and some other work. When I turned on my stuff, I smelled that wire burning smell...you know the one. I couldn't tell where it was coming from though because I have quite a bit of gear here. So, I turned out the lights and grabbed a flashlight. I saw smoke coming out of my power supply of my main pc. Power supply cooked. I dropped in a new one, the pc never booted up. I found out I cooked the mobo, 3 hard drives and the cpu. I loved that pc...and it served me well from late 2004 until now. Well, here I was fighting with "do I build a system, or buy a system?" I decided to talk to Jim Roseberry and guys, I swear to you, if you ever consider a new DAW pc, that is the man to talk to. Jim is absolutely amazing with everything he does. And, he has the patience of Job when you talk to him on the phone or email and ask questions. I got an i7 930 with 12 gig of ram, 3 hard drives and he padded the inside of the pc for me. It is absolutely amazing in all aspects. Quiet, well put together, tidy inside and lightning fast! Jim, you rule man...thank you so much for your help, wisdom and for building me one of the best DAW machines on the planet! Trying Sonar 64 was my next move. I've heard lots of bad things about it. Plugs not working, other issues...I didn't even want to go here. But I figured, what have I got to lose? I'll run Sonar 32 bit too and I never had any issues with that. Well, 64 is every bit as great as guys like Jose and Fred have mentioned. It truly is. The first thing I noticed when opening an old project was, the cpu % just doesn't move. LOL! I used plug after plug, soft synth after soft synth...when was this thing going to start breaking a sweat? Well, it never did. I couldn't get the cpu to go over 9% and I had a load going on. Another thing I found quite impressive was how well my plugs work that supposedly weren't supposed to work so well. Waves, Abbey Road, Superior and EZD (even without the 64 bit updates you supposedly need...what gives?) all worked without a hitch. Superior works fine if you use JBridge, if you get the 64 update for Superior, you don't need to run it through JBridge. Another thing that is incredibly impressive...no more freezing tracks. I don't run loads of softsynths like many of you. I use drum modules, a few piano/synth things (the new Alicia's Keys VSTi is incredible if you need a killer piano and cheap too!) and the new amp sim I'm helping develop, but not much more than that. Loads of plugs though, that's for sure. I also got a new UAD 2 card that has been incredible. I had 2-UAD 1's in the past which wouldn't work in this box due to only having one pci slot. As for issues, the only thing I haven't tried that I've been a long time fan of is Reason. I know it won't work in 64, and I haven't even tried to install it on Win 7 yet because the version I have is 2.0. Chances are it won't even work on this anyway...but I may give it a shot. Anyway, sorry for the boasting, but I really wanted to express how happy I am with everything and give our buddy Jim some props as well. Any of you looking for a DAW with bawls at a VERY affordable price with excellent service, don't procrastinate. Get in touch with Jim....he'll really make things as painless as possible and will build you just about anything you want. Always cheery when he answers the phone and never rushes you off. Total class, great businessman, a guy I'm proud to call my friend and you get what you paid for and then some in a timely fashion. :) Just figured I'd share! :) Check him out at www.studiocat.com but I know, you knew that already. :) I just felt the need to do a little bragging about a few things. nedped, If nothing posted so far helps you out, all that I can think of is this ... Vista has both x32 and x64 on some discs and I'm wondering if the correct (x64) version of 7 was installed on that PC. I know that we could use x64 features on x32, but ............ I'm going back to the simplest stuff, like when I'm getting no signal to my amp and it turns out that I didn't plug the cable into my amp.

For those going from 32 bit XP SP3, to Win 7 64 bit (8.5 in both cases). I did it. Bit Bridge helps, and I didn't need J Bridge. It seems there is an issue. I set up the new PC identical to the old. Same size HD & partitions. Installed VST's in the same place, etc.. When you open old bundles in the new PC, it almost never finds the plug-ins. It gives that error box, and then in the usual parenthesis the name of the missing plug in. I'd wish for this function. If Sonar, as some plug-ins allow, would allow you to browse to the location of the plug-in on the new machine, and then identify it so it would look there in future. What bugs me the most is that the other option (reloading a missing plug-in) loads it 'default'. The settings you had in the original of course aren't there. It doesn't matter if you'll copy your presets from the old machine to the new presets folder. It will not find them in the new one. To add insult to injury, bit-bridged 32 bit plug-ins have that blue bar across the top, in place of the drop down Sonar universally had on all plug-ins, that let you access your saved presets. I'm not talking about each plug-in's own preset saving feature. That is different. With so many making this switch, Sonar should implement this.

Really that is not an issue if you have all your VST/i folders listed in Sonar in options. Not necessary for DX/i. What you are seeing is a problem in file version. A 32 bit plugin from an old project may have a different version. Thus Sonar can't find the old plugin because its not on your system. One thing I have noticed though is the Airia player for GPO is smart enough to note you have the 64 bit version and asks you if you want to use that. It would be nice if all plugins did this.

Yes, it would be. But again, for simplicity, and Sonar could do this if it wanted to, they could implement that other change. Basically allowing users a 'browse' drop down in that error box, so you can find the plug-in (32, or 64 bit) and then, also, allowing it to recall the preset settings that were embedded in the bundle as well as reading from the presets folder too.

Danny, thanks for your interest. My 8.5 PE was out of the box. I had Studio 7, which allowed a price decuction, but the new installation was not a download. It was from CD. Since my last post the 32-64 installation issue has retreated to the back row. My Sonar files began to rumble/distort intermittently, then go silent. Clicks here and there within an attributes window would clear up the sound, but never for long. I've come to understand this is not a Cakewalk Sonar issue. My audio/midi interface -- EMU 0404 USB -- is seemingly not compatible with, nor upgradable to, Windows 7. The whole program has been rendered useless. I'm back to using my internal sound card, without a midi/audio interface, so for the time being I'm out of of Sonar. Sad story, huh?

I'm back to using my internal sound card, without a midi/audio interface, so for the time being I'm out of of Sonar. Sad story, huh? Hi nedped, The EMU 0404 is a little tricky to get working in Windows 7 but it can be done. You have to make sure your windows sound settings match the Patchmix Session settings. You can go in and select 48000/24bit or 96000/24 and so on in Windows 7. I was able to get all my sounds, Winamp, Media Player, and such working in Windows 7 with the PCI version of the 0404. The only thing I couldn't make work was Sonar 8.5.3 PE x64 but I was reading that it can be done. There is a beta driver available for the EMU 0404 PCI and USB version that came out in February that supports Windows 7 32 and 64 bit, thought I would mention it in case you weren't aware. Download it here It's not on EMU's website in the driver section, it's on Creative's website. Why? I dunno! :) I was trying to get my 0404 running on my Windows 7 64bit PC with Sonar PE 8.5.3 last night but I couldn't get it to work. My issue was, I could see the master output meters going in Sonar, the output meters would be going in Patchmix, but the meters for the speaker volume in Windows would not move and I heard nothing. I think the problem is, Windows uses a WDM driver and I was using the ASIO driver in Sonar. If that's true, then we're stuck with going to the WDM driver in Sonar because there's no way that I can tell to change the driver type for Windows. I tried the WDM driver in Sonar and I got sound, but it was stuttering really bad. I didn't mess with buffers or anything because it was getting late, I will tonight though. I read here that others had issues running Sonar 8.5 x64 on a Windows 7 x64 PC with the 0404 but they got it going by doing the latest Windows updates. Unfortunately I don't have net access at home so I can't do the updates to see if it helps. Good luck, the 0404 is a great sound card, hope you get it going. Shane

ned: I'm sorry to hear that...wish I could be of help, but I figured I'd take a shot just to see. Shane seems to be on to something. I really hope you can figure it out. Janet: Thanks! You got a good one too eh? That's great. You know it's weird, I never had any problems with any of my pc's running Sonar. I started on Win 95 Plus, and then made the jump to Win 98 SE, still no problems...and that box is still alive and kicking with Cakewalk 9.3 up to Sonar 2.0 to this day. I never had issues there at all other than a few versions of Cakewalk being pretty dismal. But Cake 9 and Sonar 2 were fantastic. I finally went to XP because you needed a new OS to run Sonar 3 and above. I bought a pc from Sweetwater and it was truly a great box. I never had any issues with it other than it ran a bit hot due to a fan that needed to be changed. I got it in 2005, it lasted until about 2 weeks ago. And let me tell you, I beat that thing to death. It paid for itself about 50 times over since 2005...so I definitely got my money's worth for sure. That said, it was such a good machine, the only differences I see with the new one are I no longer need to freeze and have way less cpu usage. The old box was very fast and render times/export times seem to be the exact same to me. I thought this new pc would totally smoke what I had...and it does, don't get me wrong. It's just that, with each new pc I've purchased, I notice a speed increase with how it processes. I notice none of that with this...times are about the same. I've gained performance in other areas that I never had before, but I figured...3.2 dual core vs what I have now...would be an incredible difference opening programs, processing audio, exporting, bouncing etc. Same time for the most part. The new one is faster at everything, but if I didn't have a timer on some things to see how long it took to process (I memorized how the other one worked doing the same tasks....I know, way too anal. LOL!) I'd not even say there was any speed difference at all. That tells me that old box was pretty darned good. Yeah, definitely talk to Jim if you ever need another. I'm pretty good with pc's, hardware, software etc...but Win 7 and 64 bit is still a bit new to me. So I flooded poor Jim with questions via email and by phone. Here I am thinking "dude is gonna see my number come up on caller id and say "not this guy again...grrr!" Instead, he picks up the phone 9 out of 10 times with a "hello Danny, this is Jim" and is eager and willing to answer any and all questions no matter how n00b sounding they may be. That totally blew me away. From there, some in depth emails followed where he replied back with a book of answers of his own. He's never made me feel like he was trying to get rid of me or rush me off and I have to tell you, it's a great feeling. Call Sweetwater, you're on hold for so long, you forget what you called for and most times TS has a message box on to where they call YOU back when they can. That's not a way to do business in my opinion. So yeah, definitely consider Jim on your next purchase. I can't say enough about the guy and how great this pc is that he built for me. It's already paid for itself in less than 2 weeks. :) Take care Janet!

Hi Shane, thanks for offering suggestions. I should clarify that I have the 0404 USB version, a console not a soundcard. It doesn't include the Patchmix software that controls settings in the PCI version. It's hardware-controlled, with buttons and knobs. There is, however, a bare-bones control window that can be opened on the computer screen to select 44.1 or 48 khz, internal/external lock and a soft limiter for input signals. That's all it does. Bit depth or resolution is not selectable. At least those are the normal functions of the control window, which has changed in appearance and stopped working since my sound troubles prompted me to fiddle with the drivers. I downloaded 0404 for Win 7 Beta drivers and basically nothing happened. They appeared not to install. I went back to the download site and realized that these drivers, released in June, were earmarked for the 0404 PCI. There was a USB update for Mac (Snow Leopard 64), but nothing for Windows. My computer's control panel didn't show a new installation, but I reinstalled the original 0404 driver from the factory CD just as a "safeguard." The reinstall introduced some unfortunate artifacts, including the crippled control panel, loss of screen resolution and ultimately total loss of sound in every application. After a considerable amount of fiddling, I'm back to using the internal soundcard with no noticeable audio, video or screen-appearance problems (I can watch a movie again). No problems other than one: My .cwp files don't play properly. For example, certain notes within individual MIDI tracks don't play. Listening to a drum pattern clip, more than half the recorded notes scrolling by in piano view will be silent. And consistently so throughout repeating loops. Every track and every clip has notes that will not sound. I went to the Session Drummer 3 interface and mouse-clicked on the various drum heads. They all triggered, so I just said "What the ..." and gave up the ghost. Shane, I followed that link to the EMU driver downloads on the Creative site. It's the same thing I've just been through. There are no 0404 USB driver updates for Win 7 to be found anywhere, as far as I can tell. Since my 0404 installation is FUBAR anyway, I think I might do some experimenting with it, now that I'm reasonably confident that the Windows 7 OS can be returned to normal. I'm not inclined to dare try those PCI drivers again, but I've read posts suggesting that drivers functional in Windows Vista 64 will often translate to Win 7. We'll see about that. This has become an outrageous headache. I'm not really cut out for all the massaging of computer settings that comes with this territory. I'll certainly be going back to my bread-and-butter Korg D3200, which does things the same way every pass. And now, thanks to a French inventor (see 2seemy.com) it will project its many-varied but tiny LCD screen menus onto a VGA monitor. And I'd be sitting in the saddle of that workhorse right now had I not busted up my arm in a recent bicycle accident, preventing me from playing guitar, keyboard or percussion. I figured I'd use the down time to create some music on the new Win 7 computer, hence the big upgrade to to Sonar 8.5 Producer, which remains an intriguing invitation. If only I could ...

These gremlins have got me trippin' OK, so the experiment continues with me seeking out the most recent available drivers for an EMU 0404 USB interface. Amazingly, this takes me all the way back to December 2007, which is just a few months after the product was born. There is mention of Windows Vista in the download description, so I take a chance loading it into Windows 7 because that's what prayers are for. Upon loading, the first apparent change is screen resolution taking on a cave-era sophistication. Colors on my desktop are drastically altered and the icons are all fuzzy. On the positive end, the EMU control panel's functionality is restored, as I can now select a sample rate, sync mode and a couple of others. But I won't do any further testing, due to the visual corruption brought on by the driver update. It's an obvious "don't go there" sign. I'm just reporting on immediate appearances, which are rather psychodelic, to tell the truth.

Thanks for posting this report Danny. Jim just built me a new i7 64-bit system a couple of weeks ago for our church studio. The is the latest of several systems he's helped me out with over the years. I give credit to both Jim (for the system design/setup) and to Cakewalk for hardware and software that just works. After getting the new system unboxed and assembled, I installed SONAR 64-bit (8.5.3). 30 minutes after I finished installing the software I started my first session with the new system. Yes, I was cutting it close, but it couldn't be helped. It was a voice-over session for a drama production that had to be completely recorded and mixed in the next 48 hours. Everything ran flawlessly. I ended up with over 30 tracks of character voice-overs, sound FX and music tracks averaging 2 plug-ins per track. The system never even blinked. Thanks again Jim and Cakewalk.

And then ... I uninstalled the downloaded upgrade that created a psychodelic rendering of my desktop while restoring functionality of my control panel. I reinstalled the original driver from disk: Desktop image normal --- 0404 control panel corrupted/useless. I'm now considering the purchase of the Tascam equivalent (144 mkii?), which purports Windows 7 drivers. That's a costly solution to a problem ($120), but what's the alternative at this stage?

Danny you have probably figured this out by now, but a 64 bit OS can run 32 bit software without any problem. The only exception is if you have hardware that has no native 64 bit drivers, which doesn't seem to be your issue since you have a new system. You should additionally install the 32 bit version of SONAR for the rare case that you run into something that is not 64 bit compatible (Like Reason, or REX files). Glad you are enjoying your new rig. I had similar experiences with mine (Core I7 950, Win7 X64 - specs here) - can't even get close to using more than 20% cpu. I will probably use this for then next 5 years without it breaking a sweat.

I've only had 2 plugs that needed J Bridge so far and one of them, a 64 update fixed totally so I removed it from J Bridge. But I use them both so I can use my DX plugs that I really love. Isn't there any way to port them Noel? I mean....I understand why you might not want to do it, but what about the ones we may have that are killer? I'm sure you HAVE to have a few great ones that you can't use in 64, right? I know I could use 32 and freeze or bounce to track etc...but is it really that hard to allow for DX's to be in Sonar 64? You mention Reason...I still have to try that. I have Reason 2.0...I'm a bit scared to try it because it's so old. I'd hate to install all that and find out it doesn't work. I know it would work in Sonar 32 bit..I just don't know if Win 7 will run it. A few things that I installed that were old, took a pretty long time to install yet didn't work at all in Win 7...so I'm just trying not to install anything that may not work. Thanks Noel. :)

Gosh, it's amazing how much failure is involved in trying to put pieces together for a computer-based recording station. And not just for idiots like me. I've been up and down several discussion boards these past few days seeking remedies for things gone wrong with the equipment and programs I've purchased. I seem to be no worse off than the typical musician who buys into the lure of empowering gadgetry. Discussion boards reveal a battlefield littered with defeated souls who couldn't get programs or hardware to work right and couldn't get the needed technical support from the manufacturers who took their money. I realize I'm posting this on a Cakewalk board, and I quickly want to remove any insinuation that Cakewalk is to blame for my despair. To be clear, my frustrations are with the enabling mechanisms that are preventing me from tapping into the joys of Sonar 8.5 PE. The problems I've experienced with playback tracks distorting intermittently, then clearing up, then distorting again, are shared by other EMU 0404 USB users interacting with Win 7 (or Vista). This bug is to be expected from all I have gathered. EMU hasn't updated the driver for this interface in almost three years. I can't find an example where someone presenting this problem on a discussion board has met a solution. Every complaint thread evaporates into thin air after a venting period that brings no relief. It's difficult for many of us to straighten out the learning curve with a varied and complex program on the order of a Sonar Producer. But I do think that if you stare at it and scratch your head long enough, you can get it. But you can't get there with hardware/software conflicts that seem to arise at every turn. Buying a new computer with a present-day OS means having to discard 3-year-old hardware peripherals whose manufacturers abandon their customers by not re-writing drivers? Sux, Ned

Isn't there any way to port them Noel? Yes, its actually very straightforward to port DX plugins, but that that isn't the issue. We have ported all Cakewalk DX plugins that we have source code for. Others were licenced many years ago and the companies no longer exist. There isn't anything under our control for those. Which DX plugins are you referring to? BTW there are some solutions floating around that will actually allow you to bridge 32 bit DX plugins as well. I think its done by reverse wrapping then DX plugins as VST's and then bridging the VST's into SONAR. I haven't personally tried this but I have heard of some success stories doing this.

Regarding the speed of your new PC. Here's something I found by accident. I also have a studiocat barnburner, lovely little machine (kinda reminds me of the car in your pic). It works great as Jim R. shipped it to me but one day I found the overclocking utility that Jim had installed on it. I had heard of gamers and such-like "hotrodding" their machines by overclocking the cpu, but never bothered to try it, sounds too time consuming, too dicey. I want to make music, not tinker with motherboards. (I gave up being a well-paid pc guru to try being a not-so-well-paid full-time musician). Anyway, there is a utility on my studiocat machine that claims that overclocking is easy, just try one of their presets (just like an audio plugin--easy to use presets to instantly make my song sing!). So I did try and to cut to the chase, my pc's cpu runs 30% faster than its rated speed. (That is, 30% faster than when Jim shipped it to me.) Now, supposedly, I could try all sorts of "custom" settings to see if it goes even faster, but I'm really happy as is. Never had a cpu problem at this speed. cpu runs a bit hotter when exporting a song, but hey, the export goes faster, so that's as it should be. Maybe you've tried overclocking already (in which case, forget I wrote this), but if you haven't, my experience is that with these studiocat speedsters, you should give overclocking a try. (Can't remember the name of the utility and the studiocat machine is in the studio where I am not at the moment.)

I did just that with FX 3 Sound Stage using a free DX to VST wrapper. I wonder why CW can't add a bridge type conversion to 32 bit DX plugins or upgrade them to 64 bits. It seems that if you don't have the code you should be able to backward engineer them enough to make a useful working plugin that will replace the old one. Then you will have the code. Also its a real pain to open an old project that includes old plugins that are no longer supported in the 64 bit Sonar. Now as been often stated one can run 32 bit Sonar along side the 64 bit version yet this is no real solution. Because if a project with a 64 bit plugin is put into the it it wont be available to the 32 bit version. The transition needs to be more backward compatible then it is now. Also even when we do have 64 bit versions of a plugin Sonar often wont load it because it is looking for the 32 bit version. What would be really nice is the ability to chose the 64 bit version when the missing plugin dialog pops up.

I'm very close now to springing for one of Jim's machines, and I was wondering about going 64. I'm a little more encouraged, but a computer guru I am NOT! I need to get in touch with Jim and ask some more questions. I have heard nothing but good things about his work.

John: Thanks bro! Yeah, it's definitely a noticeable difference for me. Then again, if someone were to really play devils advocate, there is quite a lot to be factored in. If you compare what I was using before vs. what I'm using now, there would be a performance increase no matter if Sonar 64 was used or not. Running the 32 bit version of Sonar using my exact same configuration (other than I'm forced to use ASIO now instead of WDM) it smokes what I had before. This is due to the increased RAM, cpu, and of course Win 7 beating the daylights out of XP in my opinion. Enter Sonar 64, and it smokes everything for me. I can't believe how incredible is really is. I was on the fence about it and even got an incredible response from bitflipper about it when I was procrastinating the idea before. You know bit, he knows his stuff and I'd never second guess him unless there was a slight chance I might be right...which I'd have an easier time getting pregnant than ever being more right than that guy. LOL!!!
I can say without any problem that I have run XP 32 bit and Vista 32 bits on the very same machine using clean installs of all. All optimized for running Sonar. The best performing OS was Vista 64. Vista 32 was a close second. XP was left in the dust. I am not just talking about Sonar performing better but all programs I run and utilities too. Moving to 64 bits is huge leap in performance in all things dealing with an OS including security. Some of this is due to Aero and some due to the MB architecture being 64 bit. The point is that 32 bits running on a 64 bit CPU with a 32 bit OS is not going to be the optimal way to utilize the power of a 64 bit CPU. Then there is the added memory one can have that opens up the machine to "breath" with far more space. Less disk usage and paging just for the OS to keep up. In your case with Jim supplying the hardware you know that it is as optimized as hardware can be. Then Vista and Windows 7 don't need a lot of workarounds in order to get the best out of them. Again I am so happy you are happy with this barn burner. Happy Sonaring!

Hi Ned, FWIW, It seems obvious to say... but if you want a trouble-free experience, go with 'proven performers'. Start with a well spec'd/configured machine... then add an audio interface that's known to be rock-solid. That's the majority of the battle...

Hey Jim, I have been poking around on the M-Audio forum and see nothing but complaints about the fact that the Delta drivers don't work with Windows 7 64 bit, and that M-Audio is doing nothing about it. I have a Delta 192 and was planning on updating the driver for 64 bit when I get the new Roseberry monster. Is that feasible with the problems that seem to be rampant with the Delta drivers? Should I be looking at something else? Thanks, Milt.
