  • Need X3 Users to weigh in on: PRV Controller Pane - Please make screensets absolute!

Feature request is closed (for now) but I wanted to see if we can get a pole started to see how many people believe that screensets would be more functional if they were made to be absolute.
i.e. to say, a screenset should remember everything EXACTLY as it is set, and we should never have to reset something because screenset has no control over that visual aspect of the gui.

Specifically I'm talking about the controller pane in the PRV and also the piano keyboard on the left side of the PRV.
As most of you know, there is no way to hide the controller pane in PRV ( and also the piano keyboard on the left )
and have it stay hidden the next time we open that project, or even the next time we go back to that screenset.

I'd like to hear from users who agree that this needs to be implemented,
and I'd also like to hear from Cakewalk staff with an explanation
as to why the controller pane (and piano on left) in PRV is always popping up and can't be gotten rid of on a permanent basis, either by saving the project with it hidden, or by creating a screenset with it hidden and locking the screenset.

If the developers have a concrete reason why this impossible, undesirable, if they think there are are too few of us that want it, or why they just don't want to do it, then I'd like to hear about that also.

------------
Now on a personal note, so no one wonders why I'm asking about this, and no one chimes in telling me why I need the controller pane, I know when I need it, and I know when I don't want it.
My general big project template is usually 6 PRV open and locked in the dock.
Some of those PRV need the controller pane hidden and some don't.
One of them, which contains every midi track in the project, always needs to have as much realestate as possible so it needs the controller pane and the keyboard on the left to be gone, all of the time.

Side note to the Cakewalk team:
Sonar Producer 4.0.2 always remembers and reloads the project with the controller pane hidden and the piano on the left hidden.

Is this lost functionality an over sight or "as intended?"
If it is 'as intended' then can you please tell us what we users gain by this intention?

Thank you!
Steve Karl

Yes I would like this also. It's a PITA to close the PRV and reopen and have to reset everything.

Key/Pitch pane size not being recalled has always bugged me, but I don't have any trouble with the Controller pane status/size being recalled so long as I never close/remove the docked PRV tab from the screenset (which I don't). This may be one of those things that has to be set once with the PRV un-docked and un-floated, and if you then save a project that's in a working state as a template, all subsequent projects started from that template will work properly.

"Key/Pitch pane" - do you mean to say Meter/Key?
I tested your "this may be one of those things" and no. It doesn't solve the problem.

Other things screensets fail to remember:

I'm not talking about totally closing the PRV.
I would expect to have to reset the views on it if I closed it altogether,

But that would be really slick if it could do what you're talking about also,
i.e. remember that last ( I'd call it ) "window state" of any closed or reopened windows.

*That* would be one powerful, user friendly, work flow enhancing piece of software!

Poor choice of words on my part.

Exampe of what I meant: On ScreenSet 1: Have Session Drummer set to a drum map. Then open the clip in the PRV and move the keyboard/piano view all the way down, not showing. Then change ScreenSet and then go back to Screenset 1 and there is the keyboard back again.

IOW, I cannot setup a Screenset for a PRV that has a drum map, and have that view retained as I change screensets. Every time I come back the keybaord view takes up the whole veiw and I have to readjust and rezoom.

Is this what your talking about? PRV not keeping certain views after changing ScreenSets?

I would submit this as a bug.

Kind regards,

Yes! Exactly ... that's it.
