I just bought the Arturia V Collection and notice that it has the functionality of using some of the synths as an effect and you can run external inputs into it...

I have an audio track with a vocal part and would like to try this out, but I can't seem to figure out how to run the audio into the synth.  I've tried inserting an additional Midi Track and inserting it as an Effect in the FX Bin.  Other ideas? Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks!

In my experience, Sonar does not provide for audio input to a VSTi.  Some VST's have a separate FX version that can be inserted as an audio effect with an audio input.  But the VST instruments that I have worked with in Sonar only allow for a MIDI input.

Does Arturia include an FX version of the plugin?  This would be the ideal solution.

I did find that Reaper is a bit more flexible about signal routing in this regard.  I have a VST instrument, TX16Wx, that can accept an audio input for sample recording, but so far I can only get this to work in Reaper.  TX16Wx does not come in an FX version, so that is apparently the difference regarding Sonar's routing.

It seems to me that Arturia V Collection version 5 doesn't provide FX versions of the synths anymore, but I've tested inserting the synths themselves (VST3 versions of ARP 2600 V3 and Mini V3) into FX bin of audio tracks, and their audio input appeared to work fine. (You'll need to figure out where to patch ARP's Preamp output etc., but that's the fun part of course.)

Thanks for the responses...  Kav - I think I'm missing something here because I can't seem to get sound going through.  I'm using the Mini V (I haven't tackled learning the ARP yet) - Do you need to direct the signal in?

I'm just learning how to use these synths so I have a feeling I'm missing something fundamental...

I think you can just try inserting the Arturia component (Minimoog V, ARP 2600 V, etc) into the FX Bin of an audio track, and then make a routing assignment for the Input to pick up the source of the audio being routed to it, if the particular Arturia synth accepts audio input.

After Mini V3 is inserted as an audio FX, the track's audio is automatically directed to the plugin by SONAR. You just need to switch Mini V3's external input on. Here's a quick test I just did to verify:

1) Solo an existing audio track. Press play to confirm that you can hear the track. Keep the track playing.
2) Insert Mini V3 into the FX bin of the track. The track should go silent. Keep the track playing anyhow.
3) In the Mini's Mixer section, turn External Input Volume knob to Max and use the switch next to it to turn the external input on.
4) Turn off the other four switches (to get rid of the synth's default preset).
5) Press and hold a key on the Mini's virtual keyboard. Can you hear your audio track?

Again, I'm using the VST3 versions of the plugins. If you have installed the VST2 versions, they may behave differently.

These are the VST3 versions.

Ok - that worked...  Wasn't quite the effect I was hoping for..., but it at least got me through the hurdle.  Thanks!

I'm looking for an effect on spoken word track similar to this:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzP1oeyBQ5k

Am I on the right track with this?

Unfortunately, when I tried to load Pentagon - it said the plugin was missing.  I went to the command center and all my software is up to date...  Any idea how I should proceed?  It shows up in the menu...  So I think I had it at one point...

It is not part of the new SONAR. I thought you may have X3 or older available. If so, install it the older version of SONAR by running the advanced install option of the older version and select the synth from the advanced install checklist.
