Windows 8.1 CAN wreak havoc on some music applications, and some drivers that work fine in Windows 8 fail miserably in Windows 8.1, so I HIGHLY recommend anyone considering the jump to 8.1 first do their homework on what their software will do when faced with Windows 8.1, PRIOR to making the jump.
I am doing some final testing TODAY, and am likely making the permanent jump to Windows 8.1 this afternoon, but I did research every single application I run, to try to make sure (as sure as I can determine), that I won't have any nightmares once I make the move.

I certainly had a nightmare with the Win 8.1 update on my new 64bit build. I couldn't even get into Windows to fix this problem as I could only get into BIOS, and had to eventually do a clean install of Win 8 only. Now, all is well.
Apparently Win 8.1's Automatic Update caused a video driver issue and Intel suggested to manually install the graphics driver.
(The one time I was able to get into Windows) I checked Device Mgr. to see the status of the intel graphics HD 4000 driver and found out:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43). Googled this error and at Intel site there's a possible fix, but seems like people are having mixed results
https://communities.intel.com/thread/46588. Some people have had good results with the new drivers and others have had to use older drivers.......looks like it's a trial and error method for each machine......YMMV.
