Okay so I finally... after using cakewalk for 6+ yrs, bought and audio interface!  I know... WTF? But anyways, it's the one in the title to this thread, not the MKII though.  I have no idea what I am doing of course, but is there a reason for this thing?   My latency issue is taken care of but i'm lucky if it will play through and entire Bar without glithching.  I read the manual, watched some tutorials nothing too detailed as to what one does if it doesn't work.  I am probably missing an obvious simple solution so maybe someone can help?  My specs are in my sig.  thanks!

are you using 64 bit Windows? if so, i have found that the Tascam drivers are garbage, and they will not fix them.  i was so happy when i finally got rid of my Tascam interface.

Here are a few links for forum threads regarding your interface:

Please list the settings you have on your system for the following:

For your interface: Sample Rate, ASIO Buffer Size, exact driver version you are using

For Sonar: Sample Rate, Driver Mode, Record Bit-Deoth, reported latency values for - Input, Output, Total Round Trip, Sonar version (X2, X2a).

Are you using 64-bit Windows?
64-bit Sonar?
Is Windows up to current maintenance levels?
Is your interface plugged into a USB 2 port or a USB 3 port?  (You likely will want/need to use a USB 2 port)
Is the USB 2 port powered?

Also, you indicate in your post that while your latency issue has been resolved, you have glitches during playback.  Please explain further, as glitches sound to me like you are still having latency issues.  So, what kind of glitches are you experiencing?

I looked up the specs for your CPU, and it would seem to me that this does not meet the listed minimum specs required for Sonar X1 or X2.  Please note that there are folks running successfully with systems that are below the listed requirements, but I have also seen where folks just couldn't get things to run correctly without upgrading.

I would recommend you review and respond to my requests for information, and we look at tweaking those settings (and maybe some others), PRIOR to you shopping just yet for a replacement CPU upgrade.

Lastly, are you experiencing glitches for ALL projects, or just certain ones?  Perhaps you are having latency issues caused by one or more effects loaded into problem projects.  One way to check this is to load a project that gives you glitches, then hit the 'E' key on your computer keyboard to toggle off/on your effects, and see if your glitches go away.

If your glitches go away with your effects bypassed, then one or more of your loaded effects are causing these glitches, and you have to go through the exercise of figuring out which one or more are doing this.  (hitting 'E' again will turn effects processing back on, by the way).

I will keep an eye out for a response post from you with the information I requested,

Your problem is simple: the US-144 drivers are not supported under Windows 7, and your sig shows that you're running Win 7 Enterprise.

You bought the US-144 used, and it was pretty cheap, right?  The reason is that it's been discontinued for years, and Tascam dropped support when Win 7 came out.  You need to either change your computer operating system to Win XP, or get rid of the Tascam.  As an alternative, maybe the US-144 will work well with the free ASIO4ALL driver--it wouldn't be the first time ASIO4ALL has saved an otherwise unusable interface.  It can't hurt to try:  http://www.asio4all.com/

If ASIO4ALL doesn't solve your problem, you should expect to spend about $150 (new) for a decent stereo-in-and-out audio interface that works with USB.  If you decide to get a different used interface, check the manufacturer's website BEFORE you buy to make sure that there's driver support for your current operating system.  It wouldn't hurt to check the manufacturer's user forum before you buy, too--you can find out a lot about what kinds of problems users are having that way.

Buying used saves plenty of money, but you have to do the homework first.  Some used gear is cheap for a (bad) reason.

Good luck, lightninrick

Based on my experience, lightninrick is right. I had a US-144 as well (with poor latency) that I used with Sonar 8.5 and Win XP. When I upgraded to Win 7, I had to get a new interface because Tascam did/would not update the drivers for Win 7. Needless to say, I did not buy another Tascam. I didn't try ASIO4ALL, so I guess that's worth a shot. I hope you have better luck with it.

You will need to get rid of your Windows 7, if you want to use that audio interface. A quick visit to the the Tascam Website, would have shown you that this interface doesn't support Windows 7 and has been discontinued.

Thanks for all the extra miles you all went to to properly diagnose my problem esp Bob Bone.  But yea I should've checked into that xp/win 7 issue but saw it for $30 at a pawn shop and figured that the OS would be the last thing to worry to about.  Ill try asioforall and get back to ya
