What are your experiences on using Guitar Rig and Sonar?

I tried to make automation for turning an effect off but the automation did not work. My approach was to automate on/off parameter and that didn't work. Next step was to try automating the dry/wet parameter from the effect to zero but that didn't work either. Then I decided to to use an Aux track for parallel effect and routing the Aux crashed Sonar. Lost one hours work because I was an idiot and didn't save after each change.

Eventually I got the particular object achieved but I'm still confused why the automation doesn't seem to work. Also I've had a couple of random crashes just by routing an Aux track. I'm on 08 early.

I think the whole automation drawing in Sonar is somehow very clumsy. Many times I end up selecting a lot more on the automation lane then I intended. Some times selecting a region from time line and adjusting the automation lane moves the whole lane and some times just the selected area as one would think.

Also any good tutorial suggestions on the automation drawing in Sonar would be great.

I'm trying to find the old threads, but basically you run it as a synth. Looking....

1.  Insert an audio track and a midi track
2.  Inserted GR 5 Synth as a SYNTH in the audio track FX bin.
3.  Changed the midi track input to my midi controller, and the output to go to GR 5 Synth
4.  Went back to the audio track, opening up the GR 5 Synth effect
5.  Right-clicked on a knob and clicked Learn, then twirled a knob on my midi controller
6.  This time, the midi learn function worked perfectly

Seems to be working OK for me. I just tried automating the on/off control of the Psychedelay effect. You can see from this screen capture that it's turning the effect on and off successfully.
