Who are Music Tech readers? Do you need a subscription to Music Tech? Or is this offer for everybody?

I didn't see that they are free on that site.  There was a couple of free samples on Sonar.

OK, free 30 days with registration.  I guess it might be worth a look.
How are the Cake videos on X1?

Thanks much for posting this, drumr.  I was curious about these vid tutes, but wasn't feeling inspired to spend the bucks on them.  Now I'm going through them for free, which is great - you can't beat "free" as a price.

I've watched the first few which of course just cover really basic DAW 101 stuff, but I'm impressed how well done these are, so am sure that when I get to the later vids, they'll be helpful for me.  Thanks again!

I've been reviewing their website.  Looks legitimate to me.  I see there's a Sweetwater 30 day pass too...not sure if that's the same thing as noted by the OP here.

These videos are outstanding IMO. The presentation is extremely well and the pacing and content is excellent. I've learned so many great little things about X1 - HIGHLY recommended.

I wish the OP could add Groove 3 to the thread title to promote theirs vids a little better.

Okay, I was having little ethical pangs with this offer link being published "in the clear" in this thread.  The OP never clearly stated whether or not this was an offer reserved for Music Tech subscribers, or "all readers".  The Groove 3 page calls it a "secret offer," so this gave me further pause.

As noted in one of my earlier posts above, I did see on the Groove 3 site that there is a 30 Day Sweetwater offer, which sounded exactly the same as the Music Tech offer.  So I called my Sweetwater rep to see if my purchase of the X1 upgrade would qualify me.  He said yes, for sure, and that my X1 mailer packet SHOULD HAVE contained the Groove 3 offer, probably on a card, in there with the usual "Thank You" note and (very flat) candy.  I looked and could not find one, so he emailed me a code to use.

Okay, I'll admit that this is a small distinction because if I'm eligible, I'm eligible.  And maybe the MT offer was for "readers" as opposed to "subscribers" after all.  But thankfully there was another path to the same destination.

No you don't to be a subscriber or reader. It's just a free offer. And all I've gotten in the way of email is just my signup info. There is a check box when signup that ask if you want to recieve emails from MusicTech. It was unchecked and I left it that way.

Yeah, it's true about them having a "101" flavor but for me the whole point was to get the visual. To be able to see the new stuff and how it's implemented.

Thanks for the followup on that, drumr.

I am going through the X1 video from beginning to end, on a coffee break right now.  This is like .. "work" or something!

But this video is very good thus far; much faster than reading the PDF and doing the tutorials.  Plus, it keeps me from getting distracted.  I'm like a goldfish that way, so this will help keep me on track.  When I'm done here, I'm going to go through the Kontakt, Cubase, and several others too.  I know there's an awful lot I can learn.

There's so much content in the X1 video, I had to open an OO Text file off screen so that I can bang out some notes while the videos are playing.  Even though a lot of it is already in the Reference Guide and the help files, my notes will help.

I have just watched these videos and quite frankly, I am flabbergasted.  They are very well executed.

I'm sure some of these features were in Sonar past but I never took the time to explore them.  I thought I had a handle on workflow but now I see where my time has been very poorly organized.  Reading the manual and getting tips on the forum is nice but seeing it in action opens up way more possibilities to me.

Thanks very much for the link.

Oh man you are dead on, Keebo.  The videos are excellent.

I just completed the X1 video and realized that I have a lot of work to do to begin to put some of this software into good use.  There are SO MANY things I didn't know.

The video did have a couple of dry parts where he was showing a lot of nitty-gritty detail.  The step sequencer bits nearly put me to sleep but that could have been partly due to my need for food by that time.  After a brief dinner, the rest of the vids mostly moved along very well.  I got a lot out of the mixing, routing, and bussing portions.  I don't think I ever used busses like the author does, but now I realize the error of my ways...

This weekend I hope to do the Kontakt and Cubase videos.  The former because Komplete 6 and 7 (plus a whole bunch of 3rd party VSTi's) are pretty much centered around Kontakt, and the latter just to see what I've been missing all along.

And there's a music theory video I want to watch too, and it's done by the same guy.  You could read the entire internet twice and there would still be something for you yet to learn in music theory...

Off to bed now so I can get up early and do some work on Friday...

Groove3, gotta love 'em! I'm too cheap to do the all access for a year......which is really dumb since I have so many of their products and could always use the brushup. The kontakt one I know for sure Is good. I think I've heard allot of good things about the two macprovideo have (and no, it doesn't matter that we are PC) I have the trilian one of theirs.......more good stuff!
