"88" a good omen? TruePianos new 1.93 (with Atlantis) just $88 with Sonar & Xmas Discount

Well, it actually comes to $88.20  -- but that's just about a buck per piano key.

And the 40-day trial version is sounding pretty good to me during my initial tests.  Maybe not quite as inspiring to play as the EastWest pianos, but pretty darn nice.

So far it seems like it'll work quite well in a mix, and I'm getting some neat piano sounds when layering it with the EastWest pianos.

I'm definitely going to pay the $88.20 before the deal expires.  Not positive, but I think it's good for at least a couple more weeks.

I've always liked TruePianos a lot. Very Playable. No disconcerting sample switching or tonal variation. By the same token, it doesn't have a ton of character or raw realism, but it's easier on the ears than some that do (e.g. NI Alicia's Keys).

Just ordered it -- got download links via e-mail almost instantly -- and I can confirm that after providing my old Sonar 8 serial number, it offers the $88.20 price.  And the files were then instantly downloadable.

I'm not certain, but I think the normal price is $179 -- but their special Chrismas discount coupled with the Sonar discount was just too much to let pass by.

The new Atlantis module (the only module in the newest demo) is very nice.  And I've always liked the Amber module that came with Sonar 8.  So now I'm just looking forward to checking out the other modules.

Also, FYI, Camel Audio has their new versions of CamelPhat and CamelSpace on sale for 50% off until Christmas -- and PSP has their two-for-one deal until Dec 31st (in case anybody's looking for a good excuse the purchase the really exceptional PSP Oldtimer compresser -- $99).  I was going to get Sonar Expanded for the extra buss compressor -- but when I tested PSP Oldtimer, I realized I didn't need another buss compresser (for now)...

I like Diamond with the Jazz patch. Nice and bright. Diamond used to be the demo module.

I also purchased the complete set of modules from TruePianos quite a while back (also a special for Caked customers). Am now using EastWest's Pianos exclusively, but never thought of layering with TruePianos. Getting good results?

In my experience, layering acoustic pianos doesn't usually work very well. I often layer a smooth E.P. With a soft attack and a long sustain with an acoustic, but two acoustics will tend to clash. I'm sure there are some combos that work better than others, though.

I'm guessing that, as with E.P. and acoustic, two acoustics will blend better the less similar they are.

Alegria - regarding layering TruePianos with EastWest, I like how the "consistency" of TruePianos evens out the slight unevenness of the EastWest pianos -- but I haven't tried this conecept in a real mix yet.  But my gut feeling is that it's something I'm at least going to explore down the line (layering them) whenever I'm inclined to EQ or compress either of them.

But for just solo playing/practicing a bit, it's a nice overall sound -- the richness of EastWest combined with the consistency of TruePianos.  But I like TruePianos on it's own, too.

But what happens in the mix is all that really matters -- so we'll see!

Brundlefly -- Great point!  I usually like putting a little NI FM8 DX-type EP behind a "real" (sampled) acoustic piano.  So now I guess I'll spend a few minutes exploring laying all three!  But then my real-word mix might only have enough sonic space left to fit an occasional traingle hit. ;-)

Yes, layered keyboards sounds can fill up the spectrum pretty fast. Works great for the solo "piano" and sparse arrangements I tend to produce.

Truepianos is my favorite piano bar none (Emerald is my fave prior to Atlantis). Brundlefly nailed why. When you play it it just feels real and, to me, it sounds natural in a mix...it just has that piano vibe goin' on. The way it reacts to playing dynamics is just great.

Well if you want a bargain on a piano then you can get the "Rain" piano from Sampletekk for 50% off list plus another 10% off with discount code y6d3 according to email I just got today. I own this piano and it is not bad. It is an upright sample library. So your final price ends up being $20 I believe. Not too shabby.

I still love Ivory II but that is a heck of a lot more expensive.

For having used TruePianos quite extensively before moving on to EastWest's excellent "Pianos" sample library, this TruePianos offer is an incredible deal. Great value for the price (as always, IMHO).

One caveat I'd forgotten about; the Diamond module still has this issue with some too-slowly decaying notes in the octave above middle C:

Tried to get the creator to fix this a long time ago, but no dice. No change from 1.5 to 1.9.

Yes - I bought it too.

My question: do I need to install their Setup.exe app - or can I just install the new modules since I already have the engine as of Sonar?

    Thanks.

Make sure you're running the latest version which is v1.9.3 as of today. Then you can update the modules, if need be.

brundlefly - I'll have to check out that Diamond module issue -- but I like the Atlantis module so much, it may take some effort to break away to try another module. ;-)

And I wonder if they perhaps just abandon the older piano modules when they come up with new modules?

Regarding the upgrade for Sonar user,

    1) for expanded users, do you enter the expanded serial or the original X1 pro serial ?

I've tried both, and both generates a different coupon code.

    2) With the current Christmast promo of 30% for regular user, will sonar user get more than 30% with the coupon ? If not.. I may want to hang on to upgrade at a later date (over spent on plugins already), since sonar user will always get the 30% less right ?

Thanks for the heads up on this great Christmas/SONAR combo deal on TP! Of course I had the Amber from a previous SONAR upgrade, but getting the rest of the modules (including the TruePianos 2.0 technology preview module Atlantis) for $88 bucks seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. Plus a full year of free updates sealed the deal for me. I uninstalled my previous SONAR specific Amber TP version ( I wanted to start with a fresh install) and the download and install of v1.9.3 and all of the modules was flawless.

    Cheers,

    Billy Buck

Even though this is a support forum, it's always nice to hear about positive experiences also. Cheers!

What does EastWest cost?  I ask because if you buy it + TruePianos, maybe you would be better off just to get Ivory II.  Of course, if you are just getting TruePianos only, it is way cheaper than Ivory II.

I was never tempted to buy the True Pianos/cakewalk discount because I thought the amber module that came with sonar was really bad compared to other pianos out there.  are the other modules really that good?
