A new Interface problem....

So after all the trouble I had with my E-MU I have finally purchased and received my Saffire 6 USB, but after installing it onto the computer and Sonar X1, another problem has arisen. Whenever I try to play my project, it says that it is 'unable to open audio record device'. I remember having this error message come up with the E-MU and I solved it by changing the outputs, but I cannot seem to find output settings that fix it. The project is set to 44kHz and is 24bit, which are the settings required for the Saffire 6, so I am stumped.
Just for the record:
My output of the tracks is set to Stereo ASIO driver 3 (there is also a Stereo ASIO driver 1 [and of course left and right] but changing the output to them doesn't seem to fix the problem)
As always, any help would be appreciated.

Jon

I have also installed the latest drivers from the Focusrite website, and installed everything on the installer CD that came with the interface.

Yeah I also tried uninstalling all of the E-MU drivers/programs etc. Still no luck.

Always make sure that the USB audio interface is on and operating before you start X1.

Yep the USB light flashes green so I know it is on and functioning, but I open Sonar X1 after checking this and the problem still persists.

In the project check what interface it is using. If it is not your new one change it. Than save the project. See if that helps.

In audio|devices, the inputs and outputs are Focusrite Saffire 6 ASIO drivers, and they are the only drivers there so they must be the correct ones.

there is 2 settings in the asio driver, for the in / outs for the unit.. you have set them the same , so the front of the unit matches the driver ?

I use the same unit, so find it odd your having issue with it.. in your audio in / out prefs your sure other stuff is OFF.. and stuff like emu patchmix etc?

you might find it's some legacy asio driver.. thats not the correct driver.. it should be displaying saffire etc.. not in front of mine to check

    In audio|devices:

    Input drivers ;
Focusrite USB ASIO Driver Input 1
    Output drivers ;
Focusrite USB ASIO Driver Output 1
Focusrite USB ASIO Driver Output 3

These are the only drivers (They are all checked)

    In audio|driver settings:
Playback timing master and recording timing master are both set to driver 1
(of course record is input and playback is output)

I'm not sure if this is all correct or not..

What version of Windows are you running? 32 or 64 bit? What version of Sonar X1 are you running? 32 or 64 bit?

Did you check the Windows Device Manager to see if the Saffire is listed under sound devices?

Did you try switching to WDM mode?

Sonar and Windows 7 are both 64 bit, and yes in device manager it says it is working properly.

Did you download the latest drivers for the Saffire from the Focusrite site?

Also, the manual says to make sure you run the installer before you plug in the Saffire. Did you do that? If not, uninstall the driver, unplug the Saffire, reboot, run the installer and then plug in the Saffire. This is very important.

    Nope, WDM doesn't work either.
I have downloaded the latest drivers, and no, I do not have anything open when I am using Sonar.

    EDIT:

I think I did plug the Saffire in first... I didnt get a manual as it was secondhand. I will try it now

You should download the manual and see if there is a troubleshooting section.
Otherwise, you should contact Focusrite Customer Service or see if they have forum on the web.

It should work easily in Sonar so this doesn't seem right.

From what I have read on this thread I would suggest you, download the manual, uninstall all Focusrite software, run a registry cleaner and then follow the manual for installation.

As I am still a XP 32bit peep I cannot tell you how to check your USB states  I sus-p-e-c-t it is much the the same i.e. Control Panel, System, Hardware Tab, Device manager, Check properties of USB devices, power management unchecked allow system to turn off tick box.

Well after a long while of trying to uninstall and reinstall, the error is still coming up. I found out however that the Saffire 6 isn't faulty (I connect headphones to it and sound does come out.) I don't know what else I can try.

Is windows configured to also use the Safire? If so, you could try configuring windows to use the onboard sound chip.

Or perhaps configuring sonar to share drivers would fix the issue?

Yeah the onboard sound chip is the default, I did try and disable it but it didn't make a difference.
Sharing drivers won't affect anything after trying it a few times also.
