i was interviewed once by a Maine public radio affiliate. The woman admitted she was inherently shy and not very good at field interviews. My friend and I were browsing in a small independent bookstore that apparently was in a struggle to stay afloat competing against the mega chains. She asked us why we chose to shop at an independent bookstore.
Basically our honest answer didn't fit very well with the story -- our wives were shopping next door and we needed to while away some time. But as she probed further both of us indicated we were very familiar with the plight of the independent bookstore, but 1500 miles away back in Minnesota. That's when she turned off her tape recorder.
These news people are always working to deadline and so they really can't afford these extraneous responses. They know what they want -- they just need somebody to say it.
