Troll or insane, one of the two is true. You're on a forum complaining about software you've never used, never intend to use, based on the opinions of people you've never met.

I have not had one problem from day one with Sonar X1. Your decision not to upgrade is based upon selective negative experiences that obviously do not reflect the experience of the larger community of users here that find great functionality and stability to be the rule, rather than the exception to the rule.

jbow What a waste of time reading this thread was... J Yes but there is something darkly entertaining about it all. I doubt this thread will go down as a memorable treatise on X1. I doubt anyone will learn anything either except that the OP is a stone cold troll. But be assured that as soon as the mods see this thread and the OP's avatar it wont be around very long. At least we can hope.

You know what really bothers me about this thread in particular? Its what many here have already said, that YOU the OP haven't even bothered to actually TRY the software yet, and are kevetching about how horrible it is and that you are going somewheres else. Well, I cannot call the kettle black because when I first came here a few months ago, I was ready to not try it because of all that I was reading here. I had bought the complete X-1 Producer package and was afraid of what MIGHT happen, based on the same infoI was seeing. So, I decided to stay with 8. I got my upgrade to Sonar 8.5 producer and was going to stay there until I was sure it was "safe to come out". By the way, I didn't come in here and start ****ing about how horrible the sofware was, specifically because I had no justification. Hell I wasnt even thinking that way, but I WAS bummed to pay so much for something only to find out it might have a ton of problems in my future. I kept reading the posts here and after seeing the success stories decided that perhaps it couldnt hurt to load her up and give it a run. Yep, the support staff at Cakewalk were awesome in helping me get the 8.5 upgrade, and a side note to give X-1 a try at least. Well, I decided to go for it, load up X1 and its updates, and I have to say thus far it has run FLAWLESSLY for me. No crashes, no problems with the recordings and mixdowns other than my own damned ignorance. The Scott Garrigus Sonar X-1 power book has been a godsend in that department. Sure, getting used to the new interface has been a bit of a challenge for me, but I'm learning it and REALLY digging this newer version the more I use it. Now I can't speak for anyone else here because some really are having issues, but they at least HAVE TRIED THE PROGRAM for themselves. You get that??? Don't take our word for it, try it for yourself and if it doesnt work out then you can move on and know your information (for YOU) is solid. None of us are working this software on identical systems and with every change in the basic computer setup, hardware, ram, other programs, bios settings etc... there are bound to be some monkey wrenches thrown in there. Oh and by the way, that arrogant "all the other programs dont have problems like this" attitude is an out and out huge piece of misinformation. I've used Cubase, Logic, kontakt, and quite a few others over the years and NONE of them are without problems of some kind. I came to Sonar/Cakewalk back in 2002, and FOR ME, its the best software for doing what I do bar none. Every last one of them have bugs. Every computer program you use has some form of bug in it otherwise you wouldnt have to update so much. Again, it all depends on a half million variables as to whether or not you MIGHT have problems. But you go ahead, keep ASSUMING you know what you are talking about, and move on without irrefutable proof of your assumptions based on what others say. Move on to your perefect software that outdoes Sonar hands down for you. Just don't let an opportunity to have a GOOD experience (Like I almost didnt have for lack of trying), slip through your fingers. Because right now, all it looks like from most of our perspectives is that you have an axe to grind with Cakewalk and won't even bother to have an experience in order to justify your ranting and raving. Good luck to you. Mick (the other one ;)

Good luck to you. Mick (the other one ;) Mick your the guy I have been worrying about. Your the guy I have tried to add balance for. With all the bashing that is nonstop all over this forum I wonder how anyone would ever chance using X1. Its not just posters complaining about crashing its about really respected members creating an atmosphere of doubt and reluctance for new users or in your case updaters. They do no one any good by constantly attacking people that find X1 a very good program. I know that X1 is far from perfect. Yet it is more then any past version is in so many ways. It has all the things one needs to do great work and in most cases faster than ever before. If one were to accept the bashers 8.5 was/is the very best program CW ever put out. I don't buy that and I am glad you didn't either. What concerns me is how people will view the criticism. Will they ultimately see it for what it is and dismiss it as simple disappointment with a new direction CW wants to take it or will they be so put off that X1 will not find its way into the computers where it rightfully belongs? It is you and so many others like you that keep me involved in threads that paint X1 as a bad program. Your post is a breath of fresh air for me and says that what I do here is not wasted. Thank you for letting us know how you think about this and that you are getting along just fine with X1. I wish more would speak out as you did. Again, thank you.

One thing a lot of folks fail to take into consideration in this context. Sonar like Cubase, and some others is a very deep program. Sure Studio one is a bit more stable, it does not do half what Sonar does, nor does it have half the features. I also read a bit over at the Reaper forum, you see much of the same things there. "My system crashed when i ... The xxxx feature caused a crash, ... where is the xxxx it used to be in xxxx in version 3.0.." If you go to the Logic forum the same thing happens. The more features added, the more depth of tools, and choices, the more difficult it becomes. I did the same thing, i refused to upgrade to an form of Sonar because of nay sayers, i stayed with the old Cake MC series. They were good solid little DAW software programs, but they did not have all i needed, so i bought other programs, some good some not so. But i finally tried X1 essentials. I am darned glad, cause i have learned that it is a very solid product. It does a good job. The work flow to me is a bit confusing, and cluttered, but I am getting more and more familiar with it. I have been a cake fan since Home studio 3.0 on floppy disk, so I am happy to ahve a updated modern version that does what i need. If all goes as planned i will some day soon make the jump to Producer. Last thought, like said above, if you make your decision based on the negatives on the forum, you are listening to the wrong segment of the user base. Certainly some are experienced users, but most do not know proper setup procedures. I saw a post the other day on the MC forum of a guy swearing the program was unusable, but all he needed was a properly setup sound card. I helped a user not long ago on another web site who was cursing the software and threatening to leave, i did a teamviewer connect to his system and in 10 minutes had him up and running. He was no total newbie, as he was a sonar user, but the other software sets up a bit different.

kc2ine doncolga Great experience here with X1B and X1C. Regret you're having trouble. Mine is also trouble free...very stable. Have you run any other DAWs successfully on that machine? You mean you have never had a X1 crashed? I have another Sonar VS which so far is very stable because I used it few times only Correct. My X1B didn't crash and X1C has not crashed. Just yesterday that X1C rig ran a project for about 18 hours with zero hiccups. X1 has actually been more stable than 8...it's rocked....just saying'.

There's a weird culture around message boards where some people think having been around a lot and posted a lot counts for something. I don't see things like that, myself, and I don't think most people do. Your larger point about misinformation poisoning the well is absolutely correct, though.

When those same people go off the deep end it hurts all of us. So people aren't allowed to give their opinions, even "respected members" that you recognize, unless it matches your agenda? Ok, got it. Honestly John, the reason 95% of the arguments that break out here happen, is because of you, John T, and others like you who try to illegitimize the confirmed problems that many are seeing. That's when the real problems start. That's when the pendulum has to swing the other way and people like me who has unfortunately run in to many of the confirmed bugs in Sonar have to speak up and say ... wait a minute ... this program is not up to par like these people are saying it is. You are a bigger problem here than the people who come here on a regular basis and say, hey, this isn't working right. Reason being ... if those people would just go away like you want ... there would be no discussion, no work-arounds, no fixes for them. You would just bury your head in the sand and say, "Thank you sir, may I have another." with a smile on your face. So far, every single problem I have run in to with X1 has been a confirmed bug that has been fixed in a patch or is being worked on for a future patch or 'release' as they like to call it. (meaning you'll have to give them more money if you want it to work). So nobody should listen to me even though every problem I've had so far has been a confirmed bug? Bitflipper should shut up when he said some of the new envelope editing features were a showstopper for him? Mike should shut up because he's seeing the problem with the Pro Channel turning on/off by itself and he doesn't feel comfortable using X1 with the Pro Channel being shoved down his throat (+1 to Mike on that one)? I should shut up because my CPU usage has shot up to 50% with 1 track in a project now that I've updated to X1c? Believe me when I say, I'm not convinced X1c is the culprit on that CPU thing I'm seeing, but I am thoroughly troubleshooting it, and if it comes down to something related to X1c ... you haven't seen anything yet. Honestly, what do you want to see here? The forum is for people to come here for help with problems in X1 and workflow. Do you ever think before you post?

Bub, I definitely see your point, but the original OP didnt even try out the software to see if he WAS going to have a problem. You at least have gone through the whole shebang (at least from what Ive read here so far) and want to figure it out in order to be a happy customer. Having so much go wrong on your end I can see why you would remain a staunch advocate for distrust of the program.

So people aren't allowed to give their opinions, even "respected members" that you recognize, unless it matches your agenda? I don't deal in opinions. I deal in facts. I will say when I am offering an opinion. I don't deal in feelings either. I deal in thinking. I have never gone into a thread where some one has stated they are having problems with X1 and done anything other then find out how to help. You know that better then most Bud. Again you misstate the facts. I have and will continue to confound those that have on their agenda the dismantling of X1 and this forum. In the post above I state why. Believe me when I say, I'm not convinced X1c is the culprit on that CPU thing I'm seeing, but I am thoroughly troubleshooting it, and if it comes down to something related to X1c ... you haven't seen anything yet. I have said repeatedly that I hope you get X1 working for you. At the same time I can't deny that I have a working version on my machine and have had it from the beginning starting with X1 without any patches. To say otherwise would be just as bad as you not stating your problems. But you have been one who goes into any thread and then bashes X1. You either joke about it or argue about how bad it is. You retell your troubles all the time. Normally your time would be better spent fixing your computer instead contradicting anyone that dares post having a good time with X1 or that they like it. Honestly, what do you want to see here? The forum is for people to come here for help with problems in X1 and workflow. Do you ever think before you post? What do I want? Well its very simple I want the truth. Truth justest and the American way!!!! In this very thread because the bad mouthing from the disenchanted we see testimony how he was put off from X1 by the efforts of those that don't like it. If members like me did nothing that would be all he saw. Is that what you want?

John You are a bigger problem here than the people who come here on a regular basis and say, hey, this isn't working right. Reason being ... if those people would just go away like you want ... there would be no discussion, no work-arounds, no fixes for them. You would just bury your head in the sand and say, "Thank you sir, may I have another." with a smile on your face. Again you misstate the facts. I have and will continue to confound those that have on their agenda the dismantling of X1 and this forum. In the post above I state why. You mistake people coming here for help and venting their frustration as the dismantling of X1. I have said repeatedly that I hope you get X1 working for you. At the same time I can't deny that I have a working version on my machine and have had it from the beginning starting with X1 without any patches. To say otherwise would be just as bad as you not stating your problems.
This is the problem ... you didn't have a working version of X1 when you did the original install. You just didn't use the functions that were broken, such as Audio Snap, Snap To Grid, some of the samples in Session Drummer 3, and many more. When you tell people you have a working version of X1 you are lying by omission, because what you are not saying is ... by the way folks, I don't use the things that are broken. Honestly, what do you want to see here? The forum is for people to come here for help with problems in X1 and workflow. Do you ever think before you post? What do I want? Well its very simple I want the truth.
If you want the truth then stop lying by omission. If members like me did nothing that would be all he saw. Is that what you want? It's not your response to the OP, it's your comments about how we shouldn't even listen to the people you refer to as "Respected Members" and just blindly follow you. I'm one for a good dig your heels in discussion, but even I'm getting tired of this John. The fact that you go to such lengths that you lie by omission and continue to justify it is really sad. To this day, almost 9 months later you still refuse to acknowledge the fact that there were things in X1 that were broken and you continue to omit those facts in your posts. Why do you do that? Simple, because then you can't honestly say X1 has worked perfectly on your system can you? So you have to perpetuate the lie.

You mistake people coming here for help and venting their frustration as the dismantling of X1. So do all the others that have been put off by the "venting". I want X1 to succeed. I'm not to sure about some others. Thats is presumptuous of. You have no idea what I use in X1 or how I use it. If you want the truth then stop lying by omission. See above. You don't give me any credit for findings bugs and reporting about them and confirming bugs others have found. You see you really don't know what you are talking about. Its very odd that you would claim some one you don't know have never sat down with never seen their system and proclaim how they use the program. You are now totally out of your depth. Simple, because then you can't honestly say X1 has worked perfectly on your system can you? So you have to perpetuate the lie. First that is not what I said. But say I did say that is it so wrong to let people know that X1 will work? Is it your mission here to bash X1 no matter what? Is it that you want no one using X1? I can't see why you are even on this thread except you agree with the OP. I know hope that is not the case. Anyway fix your machine.

For what it's worth, I really like kc2ine's avatar and would have it on my wall... I realize I've said that about a few avatars this week... but I mean it! And I'm not old enough to be an old pervert... yet. Maybe it's my boyish innosence and curiosity Anyways, this X1 experience across this forum is so weird. I haven't had any problems since X1a and before that there were no show stoppers for me. Now X1 is destroying all competition in my studio and I'm glad for that. But that people's experience is so radically different puzzles me. And since the same code is distributed and mostly used on the same OS, I wonder what is that fundamental thing that causes these problems for people? Take away user error and a user's hate for the new GUI, key commands and what have you, what is that one common thing in the troubled systems? All I can say is; it's not in my system. Anyway, the mood on the forum since X1c came out has improved A LOT and that's so good to see. Even Mudgel is in a much better mood! Anyway, at least we can say that Cakewalk have really put an effort into making their customers happy. I believe they've had a loooooong year! So trying the software isn't a bad idea, you are most likely to get good use of it

kc2ine John T The thing is, with a trial version available, there is no sensible reason to base your decision of what anyone here says, pro or con. So when Copernicus discovered that earth revolves around the sun I should check it for myself? At the time, yeah, absolutely. It's only with the benefit of a lot of hindsight we know that Copernicus wasn't just a lunatic. The scientific method is all about double, triple, quadruple, whateveruple checking. What a strange (and failed) analogy. Learning new software takes some time so I want to be sure
If you're not willing to put time into a research and testing, then you're never going to be a sound engineer. This is a painstaking and methodical trade. If you're not up for that, save yourself even more time and find something else to do. That may sound like an attack; it's not, it's serious advice. You need a meticulous mindset to do this to any serious degree. If you don't have that now, you can cultivate it. But if you expect to get anywhere without it, you're in for disappointment.
