Lance said it's random.
"The problem is related to a change in the timing for thread initialization on Windows, which leads to intermittent crashing..."

Incidentally, I still have my Windows 98 PC. It starts in 3 seconds and shuts down instantaneously.
Sometimes we forget how things were.

What I have found is that today Tue 13th Dec. I updated windows on my laptop and my desktop. Windows 10 with the Anniversary update both 64 bits and both Pro. KB3206632 was the update. CA2A was not loading before this update. Now it is and it is working as expected. I don't have any CW instruments on the laptop. On the desktop the plugin manager and vst scanner crashed when scanning Z3ta 2.

I believe this has put me out of business. Hardly anything works. I can't even record a vocal track.

For me, when I initially start SONAR, it fails and closes the program. Then, I restart SONAR and all is well.

FWIW, I have not had any of the issues that everyone else is experiencing.
I have just had two MS updates within the last seven days.
The only difference that I see is being that I run Process Lasso (to kill Cortana) in the tray at all times.
Process Lasso is a process monitor/manager.

I'm in the middle of an album with much precision EQ notching in place. I cannot work on it anymore without drastic action..... so far a brand new PC and clean installs, deleting all instances of LP-EQ (bye bye precious notching) and transferring back to the studio DAW.
Very helpful and concerned helpdesk but its really thrown my mojo.
Roll on the fix.

I hope thay are making some progress, as in finding the solution to these problems. Mine crashes on first start then after one or two tries I can get it going. I guess it just depends on what plugin your using in your project.

Frequent crashes with a wide variety of plug-ins on different systems - certainly not confined to those mentioned so far. Is there any advice on roll-backs or whether 2016.11 is any better? (I'm on Platinum 2016.10). Never experienced anything even remotely like this before in all years I've been with Sonar.  Are we sure rolling updates was a good idea?

Since this was caused by Microsoft and not Cakewalk, I would say yes, rolling updates was/is a good idea.

Ok, but the fact remains what
You bought doesn't work. So it's the vendors responsibility to make it work. And I'm sure they will, Hopefully soon.

i'm not sure this is actually confirmed as the case, there's been no real explanation yet?

The one thing I did this morning was change my WiFi connection to a "metered" connection to allow me to control when Windows updates are installed. Going forward, when the Sonar update is released I'm going to:

  1. Create a restore point
  2. Allow Windows to install the cumulative update
  3. Install the Sonar update
I hope this strategy avoids the mess I'm in right now (i.e. unable to use Sonar in any useful way)

I hope the bakers release a hot-fix soon! But I'm under the impression this is a complicated fix and they want to thoroughly test it before releasing it.

Peace!

The "Thread" Mentioned above is from 2013. As of today, we still have received NO explanation from Cakewalk about these MASSIVE problems and NO prognosis as to when this is going to be fixed (and by whom). In other words, how long are we going to be out of business?

ok, here's some more fwiw

i had not experienced any of the issues reported by others
i just got a windows update, with KBs 2565063 and 3206632
i think ah ok here we go
let it do its thing
do an extra restart for good measure
opened test projects in sonar and another host
i still don't have any crashing with sonar or the ca2a (both latest versions, the ca2a is the from the recent freebie but vst3 only, sonar is the steam edition, and i'm assuming the shared components are the same for all versions, pim & vst scanner)

win10 pro x64, 8g, asio4all(!), nothing special, always online, etc

So who do we contact for some kind of update or projection of the resolve. It seems to me, taken in account the size or magnitude of this problem cakewalk would be doing this on there on.

The issue has been acknowledged by those who can fix it, my CWBRNs have been "submitted to development" and the forum seems to be the best place to check status.

Seth has stated on the steam forum "Nothing I can share publicly right now. We still need to see if Microsoft reverts some of their changes or addresses the timing changes they implemented to be backwards compatible. "

Did the same based on a recommendation from customer support. Nothing changed. All I get is stuttering, buzzing, slowed down playing, pops, cracks.. I tried to rescan my VSTs seven times this morning. It just hangs on a random VST every time and never the same one. I've been unable to do anything since this happened.

I just wish we had some type of timeline. Is it a matter of days, weeks, months? The lack of information is frustrating but I'm sure this is a big problem to solve and test.

Peace!

As I stated before, I also have all these issues, and am generally finding SPLAT to be unstable. Don't know if it is related, but, now when I record audio tracks, the wave image does not populate the track (in track view) and the track label on the clip says busy. But, the track does play. Anyone else experiencing this? Also, often when I am recording an audio track, some of the midi tracks will arm themselves and therefore erase themselves while I'm recording the audio track. What a mess!

"pfossi" I believe it is related to the same problems we all are having. I say this because I was also experiencing weird problems such as no midi sound at times and, when I mix down it made some random extra tracks. Real crazy stuff man. I did the last update 2016.11 most of the problems went away except the big one.  The crash! So hopefully when this is all resolved your problems will be also.
