There's another cumulative Windows update. Has anyone installed this yet? Is it safe?

I really love Sonar and I hope the issues get cleared up, the crashes get disappointing.

What's going on with W10 and pro audio?  First (and still, unless I want to disable driver signature verification each boot or "permanently" through some CMD prompt) it blocked my UAD plugs, now this...  I guess technology may get "better," but it gets equally complex, so the "buginess" level seems to stay the same.  I love all my shiny new stuff, but I do miss the stability of, say, XP and/or Sonar 8.5.  I just don't remember spending as much time troubleshooting as mixing in the old days...

Yes, a (mostly) rhetorical question...

Stuff.

This is nice that Rapture Pro & Session Update 5 is now available but the issue I experiencing is not specific plugin related. The VST scan working slightly better now, however, it stops playback or recording graphics about every other scanning plugin for few seconds. Imaging I have sessional musician recording in the studio and as he starts recording tract, about every 5 seconds playback and recording graphics HANG. This continues happening for at least 15 minutes until the scan is completed. I don't think it affects Audio playback and it does not make a glitch in recording but it looks awful and I can not stop recording when it hangs- everything becomes unresponsive. When will this be fixed? Thank you.

What is the updated on this issue?
Spire now crashes Sonar Platinum - latest version. Had to KILL the DLL to open a file.
Clearly Cakewalk can do a better job by updating this thread DAILY so we know WTF is going on.

Thank you

I updated to the latest build a few days ago and things are better but I still get crashes just a lot less now.
Ran last two days with only one crash but today about 10 crashes removing and adding plug-ins.

Sonar continues to crash. It happens with all sorts of plugins, whether VST2 or VST 3. I have had 18 separate crashes since January 13 that sent those dmp files to Cakewalk, and probably at least another 10 or so where it just hangs up and I have to shut it down. There is no rhyme or reason to the plugins, I have seen EZ Drummer appear to be a the culprit, then Addictive Drums 2, then an IK plug. There is only one constant; Sonar. I am running Platinum on a Windows 10 machine with the latest generation I7 chip and 16 gbs of RAM. Sonar was 100% stable for me until this point, using the exact same plugins that are on this machine now.

I was wondering if it was a Windows update that caused the source issue. Any sort of feedback from Cakewalk would be greatly appreciated. I have been with Cakewalk since the GTR Tracks days with no problems. But I can't keep working like this. I have deadlines to meet, and a constantly crashing DAW is a problem, loyalty notwithstanding.

Man I understand your pain. Many of us have been there before. You may be forced into simply reinstalling from scratch unless you have an image file or hard drive copy of when things were stable.

I think no matter how careful we are eventually our system will go haywire as yours has, that's why disaster recovery is so important. I like using image files. Anytime I make any changes to my system I log it and also make a new image file.

I can't afford instability because I have a working studio open to the public and don’t want to be caught flat footed with a customer standing by. Countless times reverting back to a known good image file has saved me lots of headaches and needless troubleshooting. Hope you find some stability soon.

Hi,

I had the same problem, but now it's solved. If is of any help, this is what I did:

1. Run Sonar in administrator mode: it worked just fine before Cakewalk released last update.
2. After last update the program is super stable.

Hope you manage to make it work. Having the program crashing is really a nightmare, speccially when working with/for clients.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I do run Sonar in administrator mode already, so unfortunately that's a dead end. I may have to go down the reinstall, or at least repair, route soon. I have noticed that sometimes I will start an existing session and boom! It crashes out of the gate. Then I will launch everything again and it loads fine and everything works like nothing ever went wrong. Other times a session loads fine and then something causes the session to crash. It will be weird stuff too, like saving the file, or hitting rewind. It's maddening.
