That's it for the actual updates. Now the Groove Monkey Xmas Freebie and the Eco Data installer. BRB.

Seems it had an issue with the Freebie and Windows prompted me to install it again with proper compatibility settings. Both installs took 20 seconds and the second time seemed to work.

Okay this data download is taking a little longer than expected for some reason so I'll reiterate why I post these threads. As someone who was a complete Luddite only a few short years ago I found these processes quite daunting and confusing. Still do actually. Through the intertubes and various other resources I have managed to cobble together things to a point that are workable. I am a musician being forced to be a tech as I cannot afford to pay someone to do this type of stuff for me. So the online resources I had certainly helped but there doesn't seem to be many extremely detailed instructions even from the manufacturers. I post these threads in hopes that they can help others online (as these threads appear in google searches) who find themselves in my position. Knowledge is power and the internet empowers us all. That said, my download is almost complete. BRB. Peace.

Maybe I am experiencing problems because I canceled the upgrade installer but if not this install process has indeed been a bit of a pain. They might want to clean this up.

I am going to open BFD Eco VIA the Shortcut on my desktop using "Run As Administrator". I have NOT installed Rock Legends yet but have installed everything else except that installer thing that wouldn't load. "BFD Eco has been disable because: No serial number is available. Please run the licence manager". They misspelled "license" but at leased the "licence" manager popped up automatically. lol...

It prompted me to do the serial number dance and log into my FXpansion account ans "SUCCESS! Your software was successfully authorized blah blah blah..." Now I've got a popup asking if I want to "load the Startup Preset for instant BFD Eco Fun". Well that sounds exciting... sure. Click Yes. Okay... it unlocked the BFD mainscreen and now kit pieces are loading... I think. Alright it just opened the program. No big whoop. I don't even have my interface hooked up so Imma gonna move onto installing Rock Legends. However without sound I get the default kit and I click on the GUI and all the pieces light up. Seems to be working. HOORAY!

So just for the basic install of BFD Eco and all it's updates and content it has taken me about 2 hours over broadband. Now I'm gonna snag the Platinum Samples Rock Legends bonus which probably won't apply to anyone who doesn't take advantage of this current special of BFD Eco for $50 which is running until August 31.

Looks like Rock Legends might already be installed. Now it's time to play. I might be back tonight... I might not. I'll update this as I play with the program. Thanks for reading. Scratch that. Now that I have BFD open I am not seeing it in my kits list so I'm gonna see if I can register it at Platinum Samples website. Log In > Register a new product > "Please select the product type" > BFD Sample Library >Please enter your new product's s/n... BAH! Okay. I've got some more installing to do. Now I have 5 zip files to download all of them around a GB each except the first one which is a gig and a half. Welp... looks like I'll be doing this for a while. This must be some smokin' kit if it's that huge. Yowza.

@larry... I am pretty psyched. Was just hoping to slap it around a bit tonight but I'm hungry and probably shouldn't stay up all night. I'm kind of wondering whether I should install these Rock legends files on my E drive though instead of the C. I've pretty much installed everything on my C drive so far and I've got plenty of room. The system is fast enough to handle it (from what Cake tech support said in regards to the dual drives). Meh. I guess I can just move them later if I run into problems.

Alright... took a little over an hour for all the Rock Legends downloads. Now I have created a sub folder in my BFD Eco folder on my desktop to toss all five compressed files into (because I like to be organized). I'm just gonna extract them all into the same folder. For those who don't know how to do this Right Click on the compressed file and select "Extract All". It will give you a destination path where the extracted files will land. Default is usually the folder you are already in (if you are in a folder). That is why it is good to create a new folder and toss the files into before extract. It avoids clutter.

Edit: See posts by Platinum Samples further down thread to solve this issue... Okay some nonsense just happened while extracting the first file. "File extension is too long and preventing you from copying" or something like that. Looks like I got everything out though. Urgh. Stupidness. It also created a folder with a whole bunch of sub folders and that was just the first download.

Edit: See posts by Platinum Samples further down thread to solve this issue... Did it with all five files and now it won't install. Fortunately the QuickPack manual is usable (right click open with Adobe Reader... if you don't have it or a similar program download from the web. Notepad will not work.) The manual refers to another unzipping program for download that I've never heard of (7-zip) if you run into trouble. Yeah... that's nonsense and sketchy. These compressed files should extract properly without any extra programs. I'll screw with this some more tomorrow. Very annoying. Urgh. Peace out ya'll.

I don't know if this will be appreciated[it won't],but I bought BFD2 a while ago for $149,very cheap apparently, but I've had immense trouble learning to use it as it seems overly complicated, and is almost like learning a whole new Daw,when I just want a reasonably simple foundation for rock drums, and I must say that SSD4 provides that without any learning curve or hassles. I know,I know BFD2 is the most comprehensive drum sampler on the market, and one day I hope to find out,but learning it is just something that seemed to be way more hassle for my limited brain perhaps, and I didn't or don't have time for ATM,and I'm getting Everything I want with SSD4,especially since I upgraded to Platinum. All the Best Bob

I welcome your opinion, Bob (as always). That is in fact pretty much the one and only complaint I've heard about BFD is that is complex and a bit of a learning curve. I however don't mind. I'm not sure if it will work this way but I was kind of just hoping to use it VIA X1 Piano Roll or the Drum Map (if I ever get around to figuring the Drum Map out). I think it'll be worth it though. I want to be able to tweak the kit pieces the way it allows you to. I think I'll only run into any major problems if I am forced to write all my parts directly in BFD. Other than that I already know how to get SD3 to do it's thing so if I can get it to behave in a similar manner I'm sure I'll be rocking out on it tomorrow. The only thing that's annoying me now is this Rock Legends download but I'll probably just get a hold of the Platinum Samples guys if it keeps giving me troubles. They seem pretty helpful. Hope you've been well. Cheers.

You've run into a Windows issue with the length of your path... 7-zip handles this better than other unzip utilities. This is a Windows limitation/issue unfortunately. If you unzip using 7-zip (which is free) you shouldn't have any problems. Otherwise you need to shorten the path where you;re unzipping to.... like c:\Legends for instance. http://kb.winzip.com/kb/entry/99/ http://www.7-zip.org/ Rail

Thanks man, same here, the ability to "tweak" or tune the individual drums, almost like tuning the "skins" themselves is one area I believe BFD could have "it" over the others, and once it's warm enough[winter here]to venture back into my "un-insulated" room, where my desktop is I hope to thoroughly get into BFD2,and learn it properly[I hope] Cheers Bob

I am in the same boat as you Beepster as far as BFD eco is concerned. While you started this thread I bought it and had been dling it along with the Platinum Samples. It is now installed and working. I had a real problem with in that Vista 64 bit is not supported. None the less after going to their forum I was able to find a solution and it was rather simple. It turns that the install exe is a rar file that can be opened and the proper components extracted. That done X1 picked it up quickly. I am now testing it out. I should add that it is this thread that got me interested in it and I decided to buy it. I have the DV version from last month's no brainer deal but it was not impressive without the full BFD eco product. It is not that complicated but this is not BFD 2. It is far more capable than SD3 but I will not get rid of Battery 3 any time soon. I was a strong user of DR 008 after CW bundled it with Sonar some time back but that product has long since been orphaned. I did like it but it didn't have the quality Battery has and it was not going to be 64 bits. Soon I may get BFD2 but I am in no hurry. Now I am not clear that BFD is picking uo the Platinum Samples but we shall see.

Rail Thank you. I see them but no samples load I was attempting to look and see why not when I saw your post. That helps a lot. Again thanks. What I did was install them to a different HD with all the other BFD samples. The BFD kits load fine but not the CWK ones. The kit does not the samples. Somehow a pointer is not pointing to the right place. Any suggestions will also be greatly appreciated.
