@Platinum Samples... Hi, Rail. I know this is probably not possible but I'm gonna ask anyway. I absolutely LOVE that Andy John's kit I snagged for Session Drummer and would like to know whether there is a way to toss it into BFD. If not I'll definitely be looking into snagging the BFD compatible version. Any other similar kits I should be looking at? Cheers.

Hi,

Sorry, the BFD format is completely different to SD3

Thanks

Rail

This is sounding a million times better with some mixer tweaking. The toms were way too loud in all the kits I tried so I pulled out the overheads for the dry toms and adjusted their levels. Reintroduced the overheads very slowly and did not like the results. So instead I dragged the individual tom levels down and turned up the overheads more. Perfect. This is very very cool software guys. Do yourself a favor and snag it while it's on sale. Also I can FINALLY get proper dynamics out of my padKontrol. This is the only program that I've been able to play without the fixed velocity button enabled. So cool and I am ever so happy. :-)

I wanted to ask, how is the midi browser part? Pretty much like addictive and EZ? Nice? You can add your own midi to the browser? Thanks

@tacman... I think you are referring to the option for searching for installed kits and presets. My apologies if I am mistaken. At the top right corner of the screen there are dropdown menus for "Preset", "Kit" and "Mixer". They seem to be working great. Click any one of those for a drop down, select what you want and it loads. However I am still only working with the installed BFD content so I haven't really gotten to the point of cruising around my system for other samples or settings. There is a demo of BFD on the FXpansion website if you want to check it out yourself. Seems to be working well for me. Cheers.

Alright, just played around for a while, checked out the EQ briefly, messed around with a bunch of the kits. Not much more to report. It's working as advertised and I'm happy. I'll update this after I get a chance to play around with the Rock Legends add on (which John already said sounds awesome so take his word for it or check out the demos) or when I figure out some new stuff but so far I like it. In this thread I've gone through the install, connecting to an interface, mapping to a MIDI controller and messed around with the mixer for a bit. That's on night two of playing with it as a beginner and taking time out to type this all up. Current opinion... this is an unbelievable software and even if it wasn't on special would be MORE than worth it. Cheers.

BFD Eco can play the included grooves or any BFD2 compatible grooves...  Eco does not support importing your own Grooves... That is available in BFD2 as well as a full Groove Editor.  You can drag any of the grooves in Eco onto a MIDI Track or to the desktop as /MID files (mapped per your current KeyMap) or use the included Drum Track in Eco to build your track, similar to EZPlayer.

I haven't heard of Platinum samples before, you make content for existing drum platforms?

The midi grooves you sell can't be put into eco?

But the drum kits can like legends?

BFD Eco can load all BFD2 content.. both grooves and samples...

So all our BFD2 compatible grooves and sample libraries work in BFD Eco.

Thanks to all !...Beepster and Rail especially, since I picked up the No Brainer Eco with the extra PS (which according Javier @ audioMIDI, show up on BFD account once you register it, then you get to download it there, ...I assume)and the Gen16 Zildjian library which is backordered and I really enjoyed reading that my estimated delivery is December 31, 1969 !!! Oh this is really classic drum sound at it's best ! HA!
Anyway, as I am just beginning to use Win7 64, my new laptop and X1d PE, I appreciate this entire thread (tho I might have to drink some coffee to re-read it all !!).
Rail....since it is suggested to not load Eco in a drive where steaming libraries are, which is next best ? C ? ,D with my audio-Sonar projects, or my external E which is where I plan to put the libraries (usb3 sata 1tb 7200rpm Seagate)?
Thanks again to all for this mini-series tutorial! Michael

It's always recommended to use a 7200RPM drive for the samples in the following order:

1) Non-system non-audio SATA internal
2) Non-system non-audio SATA external
3) Non-system non-audio FW800 external
4) Non-system non-audio FW400 external
5) Non-system non-audio USB external
6) System drive

Start at the top and go down the list and select the option closest to the top which works for you.

Cheers,

Rail

That is some good and timely info, Rail. Kind of glad I waited until today to install Rock Legends. I'll toss it on my E drive. Any special steps to take to find the samples? Like a scan function within BFD? Thanks again for all your help here. Cheers.

Create a folder named e:\Rock legends and install there...  The installer should automatically add the path... Next time you run BFD Eco it should scan and find the new data and prompt you to run License Manager to authorize the new data.  If it doesn't happen automatically see my previous post (#61) above about adding a data path or rebuilding the databases in the Options menu.

Does anyone reading this thread happen to know whether the Beta update that Beepster installed is relevant to using Eco? That's one part of his journey that seemed a little out of the ordinary...

Sorry, stevec. I could have detailed that further. There were actually little descriptions alongside those downloads. Not very detailed mind you but they might have helped you figure out what they were. I just didn't feel like typing it all up. I think it was just some improvements and bug fixes. That update came out a couple months ago whereas the main update was from about a year ago.

The public beta (1.5.1.0) fixes a single issue:

"This Eco build introduces fixes for the effects preset selectors. The effects now look for Eco presets, not BFD2 presets."

You should run the public beta.

I'm just checking out the PS Andy John's Classic Drums pack. I'm really gonna have to to snag this if I can scrounge up the cash. Those will work with Eco right, Rail? For everyone else here are the demos... https://www.platinumsamples.com/Examples.html and the kit details... https://www.platinumsampl...tLists/AndyKitList.php Sounds awesome.

Thanks Rail! Well, RE drives; that makes complete sense!  Since I am working this out on my laptop, I will have to deal with the external usb. When I build my desktop, I will be well informed. Thanks again.

Okay... so I managed to get all the Rock Legends files extracted without an error or adding those programs. I just did what Rail said and made sure the file path name was nice and short. Here's what I did. I copied the folder with the zipped files from my desktop (which is where I saved them to) pasted the folder onto my E drive and renamed it R L Kit then extracted the files. Worked like a charm. Thanks, Rail. Now I'm ready to install.

Alright... so there is a manual for installation included so I won't repeat everything in there but read it. I'll just describe what I am personally doing. I right clicked the installer in pack one and chose "Run As Administrator". The installer popped up and I clicked next, clicked agree and next and now I am at the data path page. It is defaulting to my C drive so I'm gonna click browse, navigate to my E drive, create a new folder and I labeled it BFD samples. Whatevs... makes sense to me. Now let's see what happens. BRB.

It's installing. I'm gonna repeat this for all 5 of the installers. This will take a while. The manual states that when you create a path in the installer it will automatically associate itself with BFD. Hopefully I did this right and that will be the case.

On the second installer pack the installation wizard has defaulted to the BFD Samples folder I created on my E drive so it looks like I'll just have to click through without any more screwing around. Cool.

Darn. Didn't see it automatically and the Rock Legends QuickPack manual refers to a "Preferences" menu which does not seem to be anywhere that I can find. So I'm gonna try what Rail detailed in post 61 of this thread. Just to be thorough in my own description of the process (I am using Win 7 Pro 64) I am clicking the Options menu in BFD Eco (the button with the Checkmark beside the button with Question mark button... NOT the windows style option menu at the top left of the screen) and clicking the + button. Now a browser window for my computer pops up. He said to point to the ROOT directory which in my case has been labeled BFD Samples on my E drive. Click okay... uh, and now I have a popup telling me that the Data path is already known and I cannot add a second copy. Alright. That's weird. Guess I'll look at the BFD browser again. BRB

Did you not create a folder named,  e:\Rock legends ?
Hit, "rebuild databases" which is just below, "set data paths"

Okay... So in the "Options" menu (checkmark button) I clicked "Rebuild Database" as Rail said and it said I have an unauthorized kit or whatever and asked me if I wanted to start the License Manager. I clicked through all that and now I have the License manager up and it is asking me for my serial number. Cool. BRB
