I think you could be right.
There definitely was no box in to which I could enter the, "Eco" code but I think maybe I have a legal right to protest especially as they are still advertising it at that price.
I'm hoping someone who bought it at the advertised price can tell me at what point they were asked to enter the code. As I said, I went through the procedure twice over to be sure and can'r see it anywhere.

Hey, Steven. I used Paypal, and the coupon code box was on the Paypal checkout page. I remember, because I was initally concerned that I wouldn't have an opportunity enter the code uinsg Paypal. But the box was there, and after I submitted the code, the total updated before I had to submit the order.

Sorry you are having issues after all you went through to get the deal. I hope you get it ironed out. It does seem that the extra rebate was an error, as I'm now seeing that the rebate still requires you to enter the Eco code, but the starting price is now $149, instead of $99.

I'm glad I got on this when I did.  I just upgraded to BFD2.  The full upgrade only cost $218.

BFD eco $49
BFD2 upgrade $199 - $30 (GC coupon) = $169

Bugger,
Oh well, either it was there and I missed it or paypal got rid of it before musicians friend took it off their website. I have to be philosophical here and say that, even at $100 it's still not a bad deal, especially as it seems the expansion pack is only available in the US which I find strange.
Oh well, c' est la vie as they say in France :}

I'm pretty sure it would.
I'm guessing you mean in sonar and not stand alone.
It's not 64bit but I'm pretty sure it'll run fine under bit bridge.
I have BFD 2 running on windows 7 64 in sonar 64 bit and it works great so I'm guessing Eco will work just as well or better since it's less demanding.

Hope that helps

I bought this and I'm impressed with it. As much as I despise having to 'activate' something I just paid money for, it's a hell of a deal. The interface works well, the built-in effects are actually quite good and it's just a very simple powerful instrument.

The sounds are EXCELLENT, and actually there are quite a few of them. Just got it going yesterday, but I'm gonna get a lot of use out of this software and the USB key is nice and small, perfect for my keyring!

I would have thought it would have been on the musicians friend site so I probably wasn't looking for it on paypal :( Very annoying.
Have to be positive how ever and say, well.....it's still a good deal even at $100, especially as they don't sell the expansion pack in the UK.

Support is not the issue; WHY do I have to contact them just to use something I already paid for? This 'activation' is just unacceptable and I will NOT support any software company that uses it. I don't know why I broke my own rule this time, but at least it reminded me for only $49.

In the case of BFD 2 (maybe less so Eco) I think it would be like cutting your nose off to spite your face. You'd be denying yourself what is, "in my opinion" far superior to "superior 2" and anything else on the market.
There are plenty of other products out there that use this same on line activation process "Windows?
It's unfortunate that their site happened to be down when you needed it but it's the first it's happened in the last 2 years as far as I know.

Oh yeah, you didn't answer my question, why the urgent need to get a third authorisation? What was wrong with your other 2?

Well, here's my take...like it or not, ol pal.  When a whole bunch of folks don't have any trouble at all installing or activating their software and one ol feller does have a problem (and with two completely different vendors no less) and then that feller rants about it like someone just took his lolipop away,  you've got to figure it might be him and not the software or the activation process.  No foolin.  Still like your playin, ol pal...it's killer diller.

PS:  Just what kind of software do you have that doesn't require some sort of activation or authorization process??

Re:BFD ECO $49.00 2010/11/21 07:58:04 (permalink)
Ok, I finaly got my package on Thursday and have it all up and running and for those of you who have it I think you may have a problem.
It could however just be me and I hope that it is.

The expansion pack that came free with BFD Eco is completely useless unless you own BFD 1 or BFD 2.
Having read the back of the DVD there is no mention of BFD Eco and none of the kits show up in Eco. I'm lucky in that I have BFD 2 so I can use those kits and they do show up as I would have expected.
So, has anyone installed the "Greatest Hits Vol 1" expansion pack? And if so do you see the, BFD Bomb, The BFD Percussion, and the BFD Jazz & Funk kits? I'd be very interested if you do because that would mean I have a problem and not you.
Cheers

Steve

I should add that if all of you who bought this thinking it was great deal and have now realised that the expansion pack is useless if you only have BFD Eco, well firstly I guess you could say, "what the hell it was free", but secondly the blame should lie entirely at the feat of musicians friend and not FXpansion so if you feel the need to complain then that's who you should make your complaints to.

Yup, the expansion pack DOES work with ECO but for some reason kit presets don't show up.  This is outlined somewhere on the fxpansion site (FAQ, Forum??).  But all the kit pieces are there and show up in your kit piece selection thingy.  At least for me they do.

Re:BFD ECO $49.00 2010/11/21 12:00:11 (permalink)
Thanks for that yorolpal
I've just been put in my place by Rob-fx and am feeling slightly foolish now :(
This is from the man him self...

Hi,

This is an extreme case of READ THE MANUAL. We made it very clear from the start that BFD Eco would only load the kit-pieces from BFD2 expansions, and not the preset content.

http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=103&tab=277

How will BFD Eco work with FXpansion and 3rd-party expansion packs?

BFD Eco can load kit-pieces from any expansion kit or pack. However, they are loaded as 16-bit sounds with a maximum of 24 velocity layers for each articulation.

In most cases, it is not possible to load BFD2 preset files or kit files, since the difference in architecture between BFD Eco and BFD2 is quite large, and many BFD2 permutations are not possible within BFD Eco. For example, the Sonica JTP pack's kit/preset files cannot be loaded within BFD2, as this would require freely-configurable slots, and more slots than are available within BFD Eco.

This is also covered in the BFD Eco manual, as well as what mic channels and articulations are supported.

I.e. Max 2 directs, OH and Room mics. NO custom articulations.

I completely disagree that GH1 is useless to BFD Eco users. The kit-piece data will load and play with the above caveats. They just need to add in the installed data path in the prefs and authorize. This is also detailed in the manual.

The bundled BFD2 kit content in GH1 not important at all. They are just a suggestions of how you could put together some kit pieces for your session. Surely one of the strong points of the BFD system is that you can tailor a kit for every project?

Sorry, I just don't understand why users can't simply load the kit-pieces they want to use. You can save your user kit files if you want to recall something later.

-Rob.

Of course he's absolutely right and I am very glad to have been proved wrong despite feeling foolish. I can now continue to tell people how good this thing is and wholeheartedly recommend it over it's competitors.

Steve

PS, how are you getting on with Eco and do you have ezdrummer or superior to compare it with? I think it's far better than ezdrummer and the sounds seem far more varied than superior drummer to me.

Oh heck, I've got more drum packages than you can shake a stick at (no pun intended) and I like all of em for their particular strengths.  But I'm basically a Toontrack feller as I just have settled in to how EZD and SD2 are laid out and run.  But ECO seems very intuitive (reminds me of Addictive Drums) and quite good.  Again, can a feller have too many drums??

I like it better than EZ but not quite as much as Superior or Abbey Road 60s (so far, at least). I suppose that makes sense seeing as Superior 2 and BDF2 are the 'rival' pair.

There are certainly a nice selection of great sounding drums, and I like the flexibility of the kit-building, which seems more intuitive than the X-drum system.

The only disappointment for me is that I really don't think much of the included grooves - this is one area (among many) where I think Toontrack do a terrific job.

With that said, anyone who picked this up for $49 should be pretty happy! I was toying with picking up another of the EZXs while they're on sale, but $39 for one of those vs. the $49 for Eco doesn't look like such a good deal anymore!
