Console-view BUG over all problems with the GUI.

CWBRN-3577

First of all, all kinds of GUI are very slow and feel unstable in SONAR X1 right now. Unstable like we referring to "Lagg" if it were playing a video game.
I have and use a good NVIDIA graphic card so it should be that what is causing it? No, I think use of outdate "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" is more that couse it, and implantation of some functions.

Console view-- "Main" snap not as you left it? Not even in screenset lock or unlocked? It foreget if it were Wide or narrow view sometimes too?
What makes it even harder overall to work with is that you have implant "locked it" to an amount of a "pre" SNAPPING-graphical "value" on all borders in Console view, "Track" "Bus" and "Main"?
WHY? Its the same stupid feature as in Windows in "desktop"--->"Snap Icons on desktop"? Why? In windows you can unlock it but not in SONAR X1? Let us unlock it to floating Snap-view in Console, not "PRE"-Snap Step view. If I wanna display only half "track" let me. Its should be up to me, right! ;)
That is WHY causing this iritating problem in the first place.

In Console-View floating View second Monitor
*BUGs

1. "Main"-section change the "Section-Wide"-value, random in Locked or unlocked screenset?
2. "Wide or narrow "tracks" forget especially in MAIN-section, random in Locked or unlocked screensets.
3. "The graphic are slow" when you scroll and seem very unstable in use of many Pro Channels views in same time?
4. Many view IN CONSOLE-VIEW ----> The "Playback locater" "stutter" forward, unstable fashion in track view?

Seriously! Please FIX all kinds of graphical problems in SONAR X1 and stop use outdate Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Librarys!! As it is now, the graphic feels that SONAR X1 should crash and die while you working?

Zoom selection - "Z" key - is not showing the selection on a clip. You do not see what portion of a clip you are zooming in.

Icons disappear in projects with many tracks in Track-View.
Both in "Track" and "Bus"-view---> "Shift" + "b"
You need select all the tracks or busses to get the ICONS display again correctly?

When you move a node, small yellow box with the actual value of the parameter you are changing shows up. But it is refreshing itself with every mouse move so as a result, it is blinking constantly and it makes hard to read out the value. It is also changing its position along with the position of the mouse cursor.
It happens while moving envelope nodes, PRV view - moving notes, changing velocity.

It should stay in one position and the actual value should be visible while moving the node or changing the position of the note.
Imagine you want to set a volume envelope node to -15 dB. You start dragging the node down but you cannot see the actual value of dB for the node, because the yellow box is refreshing itself constantly while moving the node, and it is not visible until you stop moving the node. So you have to move-stop-move-stop the node until you "hit" the desired value. Very bad workflow and it looks very clunky.
The same happens in PRV view while moving around a note. You cannot see actual position of the note while moving it. Again, move-stop-move-stop workflo is required.

Turn on the Aim Assist, go to Envelopes mode and lasso select some nodes. The vertical Aim Assist's line is interfering with the lasso rectangle and while moving the mouse, it creates an ugly graphic blur.

This a MAJOR one!!!! CRASH and DIE! SONAR crash try to save  "FX Chain Preset"

CWBRN-3587

MAJOR Instant Crash SAVE "FX Chain Preset"
Doesn't matter what you do in SONAR X1. Happen in Console view in all kinds of situations of "FX Chain Preset"?
Audio Tracks or Busses? It make SONAR MAJOR Crash under all kinds of different approach. It even crash if you hit "cancel" in save menu "FX Chain Preset" menu?
CAN NOT USE THE NEW FEATURE AT ALL as it is now

CWBRN-3587

PS! Happen only if you select Save "FX Chain Preset" when the BUS or AUDIO Channel doesn't have loaded any "FX Chain" templet. I don't know why the OPTION are available in the menu when no FX Chain are present?

Clip Automation Bug - CWBRN-3595 2010/12/19 13:38:36 (permalink)
CWBRN-3595

I've also uploaded a YouTube Video of this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Utkbf0UDtTw

Insert a synth plugin (eg Albino)
Automate one of its parameters (0:17)
Draw some automation (0:25)
Select the automation filter drop down a few times (0:36)
After about 3-4 times, the drop down stops working (0:41)
None of the other drop downs work (0:47)
After a few more tries, Sonar disappears. (1:12)

This is a repeatable process.

yeah, kind of.  i just tried it with Rapture and it takes a lot more clicks before sonar crashes.  i think it might have to do with the number of automatable parameters that a synth exposes.  albino has about 3 scrollable popups, while rapture has fewer.  it might be that sonar might run out of memory with these popup menus.

Re:Clip Automation Bug - CWBRN-3595 2010/12/19 18:48:43 (permalink)
CWBRN-3596

Here is the right/expected behavior:

Arm an audio track, hit Record button or 'R' key and Sonar will begin recording. While it is recording, toggle recording on and off a few times, then stop the recording. There will be a few recorded clips.

Now, here's the bug:

Arm an audio track, hit Record button or 'R' key -- 3 times in a row (before the recording actually begins) -- and Sonar will begin recording. While it is recording, toggle recording on and off a few times, then stop the recording. Now, you will see only one clip, which is a consolidation of the few would-be clips. The timing of the audio will be incorrect as they are shifted back as gaps between clips are eliminated.

Not exactly important though, since people wouldn't usually hit R 3 times in a row to start recording -- but it might indicate some other problems hidden deeper.

Re:Clip Automation Bug - CWBRN-3595 2010/12/20 05:36:59 (permalink)
Possible Bug
In 8.5.3 when you freeze a synth you can freeze any effect plug-ins along with it which are bounced to a wave file and the plug-ins are then disabled. However when pro channel is used on a track where synth needs to be frozen it appears that it also is mixed down in wave file which is normal as in 8.5.3, however the pro channel is still active after the bounce this in effect means your bounced wave file being processed twice once in the bounced wave where its already been included in the mix then again through the pro channel causing distortion and clipped tacks.

Should the pro channel also be disabled after a bounce automatically?

I've tried reporting this on the problem reporter page but that has er... a problem. I'll try again later but anyway. Not a show stopper...........

Description: Display bug in Transport module on metronome count-in

Actions to reproduce:

1. Assign the metronome to a MIDI note
2. Set up a metronome, count in period - I use 2 measures
3. Activate metronome on record.
4. Press record
5. Record for a while
6. Press Stop

Expected behaviour:

I would expect to see the time display in the transport module count down the count in and then change to time display.

Actual Behaviour:

The count in counts down to 1 and then stays there. The time display never returns it just displays "Press ESC to cancel: Count in 1"

Even if you can eventually get it back to time display it is still displaying the count-in message, over-written with the time display.

Does this on both my desktop Windows 7 x64 and laptop Windows 7 x32

Gotta be a bug - why would it do that?

This would appear to have been fixed in X1A although it's not in the list of fixes.

CORRECTION:

IT MOST DEFINITELY HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING!!!

Added today CWBRN-3612 - SONAR X1 Producer with X1a Patch - Cannot create/add a surround bus

On creating a new project using the standard X1a startup template (normal.cwt), i.e. two tracks and two busses, then trying to add a surround bus in the busses section results in SONAR crashing.
Adding stereo busses is no problem however, but importing any 8.5.3. project with surround busses also results in a SONAR crash.

Confirmed. And why does this feature only work with the MIDI metronome? Is that intentional? I didn't even know about it, 'cause I never use the MIDI metronome.

Yeah TBH I wondered that as well. Seems you don't get a visual cue if you use the audio metronome, which is the one I never use. I suppose I should've checked it worked but I'm guessing if the audio metronome wasn't working properly someone would have complained reported it by now.

Re:Clip Automation Bug - CWBRN-3595 2010/12/23 07:53:53 (permalink)
In X1a:
CWBRN-3652 Clicking on FX in CV moves the FX to another track
1: After loading Floating Cori Yarckin demo, either as the supplied bundle or as a
saved project,
2: CV is floated outside MultiDock & maximised on screen 3 (all screens 1680x1050
res), all strips are narrow. CV view has tracks 1-19 displayed & buses 1-10 & 1
output strip displayed.
3: If there are no tracks selected, or any track other than 19 & I click (or double
click) on the FX "icon" for track 19 (GR) the FX is moved to track 36 & the CV view
scrolls to track 36. The same happens for any track (tracks 19 thru 24 tested) that
is up against the track/bus spliter as long as the track is not selected.
4: Moving the track/bus spliter bar (even if returned to original position) stops
the behaviour. Saving the file & reopening after moving the spliter prevents the
behaviour in future. If file not saved after spliter moved the behaviour remains on
reopening the file.
CV is set up as follows:
Modules: all on except icons; All narrow strips; Sends = 2; Eq plot=default

I think the behaviour occured in X1 too.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour? XP Pro SP3 (32bit) Specs in signature.

edit to add: same behaviour on Shify&TheBigShots_Lance_Jones sample project. Compressor on track 20 gets moved to track 38. 100% reproducible here.

Several of the more obscure key mappings of the MCU no longer work as expected. For example M4+"Fit Tracks" should hide the currently selected tracks. Instead it displays all tracks - at which point you discover that the View-undo command has moved.

Lasso select in the clips pane does not select both clips when two clips are overlapped. CWBRN-3656

I think it's funny (/sad) that Big Lion spent so much effort trying to sort AS2 in 8.5.3 and now it won't quantise at all in X1.
Progress is a funny thing.

Grum.

I change the output to computer speakers but it always changes it back to headphones.  Hard to change it to speakers in the track view, best place to change it to Speaker output is in Console View.  Have to do this everytime I insert a Softsynth or bounce to track.  here should be a place where I can select my preference or identify a default so I never have to change it again.

I should be able to click on one measure and while holding down the shift key select the last measure and it should select all the measures in between.  This is standard Microsoft functionality.  It dosen't work like this in Sonar XL it just selects individual clips and nothing in between.
