Haven't yet. Their help section is really sparse, could someone who's signed up tell me what their privacy settings are like? Can you block all messaging by default? Hide your profile? I only care about the Cakewalk software they're inheriting, not the Facebook-like system it's going to be folded into.

bitflipper This is pure speculation on my part, but it's likely that Cakewalk's server data will be moved to and consolidated into a new host, one of BandLab's choosing. That would include the customer database, the download cache, the authorization software, code projects, and this forum. So yeah, if you want your personal presence to make that move along with everything else, it's a good idea to establish an account with BandLab. They may also need to import some of that data into other databases, in which case your email address is your unique identifier that'll make it possible to correlate old and new data. So you'll want to use the same email address as in your Cakewalk account. Although unnecessary, it's a good idea to use your same forum handle as well, just so we'll all know who's who on the other side. Plus you don't want some joker registering over there under your name. Not that I'm suggesting there are any jokers here.
How dare you call me a Joker? :)

Signed up when I got the email recently, but for the time being that's as far as I'm going until I have a better sense of how they respect intellectual property rights. Besides, I do classical music. Nobody's going to "follow" me anyway.

I think I signed up. I really don't know. I just went to BandLab and created an account using the same email address as I have been using for my Cakewalk Sonar account. Seems like there is nothing on Bandlab that appeals to me. Hopefully I've done the right thing to get my account to receive my info from Cakewalk when they do the data transfer.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Yes I signed up as well. I've never collaborated with anyone before and I'm intrigued by the possibilities. TBH the tool set looks pretty minimal to me too, but I'm willing to give them a chance. After all, they bought Cakewalk IP for a reason, right?

I am also curious about the collab feature. FYI - I did a quick guitar DI check with the online tool, but the latency was bad. Probably need to spend more time to improve it. It pings from your speaker to you mic. Also, I listened to some of the Jazz, R n B and Blues tracks and found that many of the songs would have been better featured in other genre's - I was a bit confused.

Of course, love cakewalk products as I was bewitched when I saw it play back a midi file and the notes getting highlighted as they were played.

Sounds similar to me. Thing is, I don't like Sound Cloud. I haven't had the time to check out Band Lab just yet, but I get the impression it is kind of a "FACEBOOK" for musicians, and if that's the case then I will not like it at all. I wonder if you have the option to use it as a host for others to listen to your music with defined permissions, meaning your music link can't be shared unless you allow it, or downloaded. I like the idea of an easy way to collaborate on songs with Band Lab, but I don't like the idea that your idea's become everyone else's IF I UNDERSTAND IT RIGHT PER THEIR TERMS, Which I have not agree'd with because I uploaded NOTHING, So I presume that if you do upload it is PART OF THEIR CLOUD meaning goodbye SONG IDEA/SONG for any leech who is looking for an idea. I just signed in for an account because I felt as though I had NO CHOICE if I want to be able to activate my Sonar Platinum in the future.

I'll be lurking around to see what involvement over there looks like. I am still intrigued as to what new directions this acquisition will take.

Wish they would have created a separate site for TDFKAS first and ported the Cakewalk customer DB to that, with the option of linking your TDFKAS account to Bandlab in case you want social networking features :/

For those of you who are concerned about creating a Bandlab login it's not a big deal. If you upload songs you can keep your song settings private and no one will see you. If you want to be heard then you can publish your tunes so they are available for others to hear. You can also invite others to add parts but that's up to you. I've been signed up for a few weeks now and no one ever bothers me or contacts me. I did publish a couple tunes and got some feedback and a couple followers. So far this seems like a very simple requirement Bandlab is asking for and it is only as intrusive as you let it be. If you sign up and never login that's cool too. I probably won't be using their tools to record, but may upload mixes to have people add parts that I can bring back down to TDFKAS to process. Not.a.big.deal. IMHO.

I saw people mentioning that they received an email about it, but I didn't and did not see anything in SPAM folders, so I shot them a message. They said as long as I use the same email address I use here it should link them automatically, so I went ahead and created my account. Haven't really looked any of the social aspects of it, but I'll probably investigate that at some point and see if there is anything in it worth using.

Of course I did. Why would anyone who has this opportunity to get a new and current version of what we all thought was forever gone let it go to waste? BandLab and in particular Meng have handled this in a very fair and impressive manner.

So - I never got an email from BandLab telling me to connect the accounts together. So I went there and signed up for myself using the same email I have here. The user Name Blades was already taken, so I had to go with Blades85 - though it's only the profile name (as in /blades85 in the URL). I changed my Name from my real-world name over to Blades. I'm sure I'm a conflict in some way now. That said, I've done online collaboration before, so I went in with certain expectations. They were not met. In the past, online collab meant that someone would create a song that needed some parts. They would then add a request for auditions for those parts and members would add their bits and then the owner of the song would pick one and the process would move along until the arrangement was done and all the parts were in and someone would mix it. What I saw on BandLab just poking around was a list of songs that people uploaded with no real search for "artists looking for drummers" or whatever. Just a scrolling list a la Facebook Newsfeed. Unfortunately, I also found a LOT of it was absolute garbage - i.e. a few loops and some guy talking over the top as if he dreamed to be a rapper and never got the Rhythm part of it is a requirement nor that you have to actually have some words. ...SMH... Anyway - I'd actually like to get back into Online Collaboration, but based on what I saw last night, BandLab might not be the way that I'll be doing that. It unfortunately doesn't really give me a ton of confidence in the "takeover" of the IP either, since there is no real sense of community I can see over there, no standardization of tools and methods short of their little "apps", and definitely no "match.com" kind of interface to get people to click together and make parts for each other. Was hopeful - now need to be told how to get what I want there or it pushes me even more back towards Studio One as the software since it feels like BandLab has a cool video to get you in and tells you how great it's going to be, and then leaves you swinging in the breeze for how to connect on their platform. No organization that I can see. At all. I'm open to being corrected!

Stick with Studio One if you like it, better to use what you feel comfortable with than joing BandLab if you dont like it. Just my 2 cents. Personally I only got the account to be able to have my info ported over. No interest in the online colaboration thing for me anyway, so that site with its features etc is a non issue to me for the moment. Sonar is running fine on my PC as always and as long as that is the case I dont care about anything else really.
