This is pure speculation on my part, but it's likely that Cakewalk's server data will be moved to and consolidated into a new host, one of BandLab's choosing. That would include the customer database, the download cache, the authorization software, code projects, and this forum. So yeah, if you want your personal presence to make that move along with everything else, it's a good idea to establish an account with BandLab.

They may also need to import some of that data into other databases, in which case your email address is your unique identifier that'll make it possible to correlate old and new data. So you'll want to use the same email address as in your Cakewalk account. Although unnecessary, it's a good idea to use your same forum handle as well, just so we'll all know who's who on the other side.

Plus you don't want some joker registering over there under your name. Not that I'm suggesting there are any jokers here.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

In fact it seems that only the email address is currently being used to access the BandLab account. Although logging on with my email brings up an account with my username, which was assigned to the same string as my unified Cakewalk logon, attempting to log on with my username brings up an incorrect name or password error.

With the product data missing from the Cakewalk server already, you'd have to be mad not to take the plunge.
I joined BandLab just as soon as I heard of the acquisition - I've got soooo many accounts, one more won't break the camels back.

Cakewalk by Bandlab, Sonar Platinum Lifetimer, Windows 10, HP Laptop, CPU i5, RAM 8GB. Audio interface: Edirol FA-101 Firewire interface with moded drivers. Microphones: Audio-Technica, M-Audio, Behringer, AKG. Pianos: Casio digital, Yamaha B1 upright.  Guitars: Dobro, Tanglewood, Danelectro, Fender. Hats: Fez

I signed up with in a day or so of Meng's post here on the Cakewalk forums - pretty much right after I read his post.

I'll be John Sandlin there, rather than SandlinJohn. I don't remember now why my user name ended up all backward. Possibly I used to have a different account under a different email address (that probably no longer existed when I rejoined during the beginning of the Platinum era). I would probably have had registered when I purchased Cakewalk Express v 8 directly from Cakewalk in 2000.

Sonar Platinum, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Intel NUC micro-workstation with 5th Gen Intel i5-5250U, 16 GB RAM and 1.25 TB Storage, Yamaha MG10XU Mixer USB Interface, Yamaha HPH-MT8 Monitor Headphones, Yamaha MX-49 controller synth

I was surprised to find that the name "Kev" was apparently not in use, so of course I snapped it up. But I've since discovered that usernames are not unique on the BandLab site. For example there are at least 4 different users named "Jimbo".

I signed up. It'd be nice to get an email from BandLab confirming that they've correctly associated my BandLab account with my old Cakewalk account. Perhaps that is coming in a few weeks.
