Thanks. If I installed MC5 on my wife's laptop, but want to install the upgraded version on my own desktop, will MC5 allow me to install it again on the desktop so that I can upgrade on that computer?

No need for that, really. Cakewalk has a fairly generous licensing scheme. You can install the programs on any, or all, of your computers. The license is not tied to a particular machine, just to you. The upgrade is for pricing only. You do not need to have MC on the same machine as you are installing SHS7. Each program is a separate entity. I actually have all of my Cakewalk software installed on a PC and a laptop. This is within the EULA, as long as I am only using one at any given moment.

Still open to suggestions by forum members as to how to take a single acoustic guitar track and expand it in the stereo field, i.e., using reverb or chorus, or sending lower frequencies to one side and higher to the right. Right now, I don't have a stereo mic for the guitar, but my vocal mic is picking up some of the guitar as I sing, and my instrument mic is picking up a little of my voice . . .

record a basic GOOD guitar track. Clone it Move the second one about 40ms behind the first. right click the track select clip properties and add 40 to the last 2 digits of the starting time. pan one 80% or more Right and the other an equal amount to the Left. Waaa Laaaa.... not quite stereo, but nice and fat and wide.

will try that. What's the difference between your suggestion and putting a stereo digital delay effect on the track?

I don't know if they automate that or if they have to have customer service person to verify or not. first, check your spam filter and make sure the email for the download link didn't go there. then log into your e-store account and check MY REGISTRATIONS and see if there's an active download link there. if neither of those is true, then I'd wait until Monday and see if you get a download link then. if not, call them.

As far as widening the single guitar recording, I usually do what you do; I have a Dean Markley acoustic pick-up plugged into my interface while simultaneously recording on another track through an MXL condenser mic. Then pan each to opposite sides, maybe 75% or so. But I don't sing at the same time. I record vocals later. An example of this is my song Never Going Home a little folk song, just guitar and bass, plus sound effects. I have a chorus effect on one of the guitars and no effects on the other.

I seem to recall having to wait a few hours for the links to activate on some downloads. Had the same experience at Messiah (3D animation software) When the link is active, you will see a box with the title, file name(the actual download link), and an expiration time. Also check that your browser has links enabled for the Cakewalk site. If you still have a problem, call customer support early(around 8:00AM EST) They are very nice people, and have even provided alternate download paths when the server was misbehaving. And I learned something while checking this out for you. There is an active link for every piece of downloadable software that I have ever ordered from Cakewalk. How's that for backup?

check your emails.... I thought the same thing, but the link was actually sent within minutes, but it was in a different email. The difference between my method and a digital stereo FX....? The digital FX is an all in one plug.... the method I speak of, is not a plug, it is a technique that has been used by many producers over the years to get a fatter sound with a wider spread. It also costs nothing but a minute to set it up.

well - except that he ordered SHS7. SHS7 has not been a download option in the past, but I know Willy was talking about making legacy products available as download, so I thought the Col might have gotten in on the ground floor of that new policy. so far SHS7 has not been available as download nor does it have different versions for download or boxed. and RobertB - I have links on most of my legacy software as well in my registrations, but they don't work. have you tried clicking on any of them?

Greg, Pretty clean sound. I'ma big David Wilcox fan, and so use open tunings with very resonant lows. I will see if your technique works for me. Alternatively, I'll play around with stereo delay, or even cloning a single track and then delayin it's start time by a fraction of a second, as has been suggested here.

The ones that were originally shipped on physical media (CD/DVD) don't work yet. It looks like they may have something in the works there, though, because each has a unique download key. But no files. The ones that were originally downloads do pull up downloadable files. I am downloading a duplicate of DimPro 1.5 at the moment. (Probably could have tested it with something smaller,2.9GB )

Mine didn't, and I returned it anyway. I am quite pleased (so far) with my Tascam US-800 interface. For what I need (two mics and a DI), it suits its purpose. I hope to have a simple, sample mix in the next few days. I've just been playing around with certain fx techniques and trying to fatten up the sound of my acoustic, but I get the strong sense that well placed stereo mics in a good sounding room will accomplish much more than any chorus, reverb, or delay ever will.

if you double the guitar (or any track) without ANY FX and without time shifting it then all you're doing is increasing the volume. if you double the track and time shift it you will "fatten" the track, but you will also introduce some comb filtering.
