Just ordered my lifetime upgrade! Thanks Bakers!

We'll see what comes up next (and I am not yet 100% certain that Sonar Platinum will remain your flagship product, BUT, I'm already overwhelmed by Sonar's features... I have enough plugins and synths (and need another lifetime to learn how to use all of those at their full potential... Win10 is also supposed to be the last version... so I guess I'm kind of "future proof" for 5-10 years hopefully...))

So... looking forward to bug fixes and improved "core" features (can't wait to have some kind of list as of what will be considered core in the future.)

Congrats again for the last few months. When I opted for the yearly subscription last year, it sure felt like I was somewhat injecting medicine to a dying patient... you sure proved me wrong big time!!

Would like to paid for lifetime update/subscription,
however, I have not install my Sonar X3 Studio or upgrade to platinum yet,
I was waiting for a machine upgrade & win10 installation first.
(my current computer is too slow, old hard disk is almost full,
and have no knowledge how to reinstall and transfer license after switching to a new machine)

I don't want to miss out for lifetime update deal,
but it is not a good time to upgrade hardware yet, not sure what to do.

I am afraid that lifetime platinum upgrade deal is not available after June1,
and I don't want to paid for a platinum subscription now while not even install or
using it and wasted my subscription.

(if I can get lifetime update deal, it justify that I can actually install and
use it months later after getting a faster computer)

Here's a more appropriate cliche: "actions speak louder than words."

Cakewalk is showing their appreciation in a very tangible way to the people who've stood by the company. Maybe it seems too good to be be true that a company would do that...but they're doing that. And based on some of the posts in this thread, people with some business acumen understand why this makes long-term sense for Cakewalk and the community.

I was invited to Boston this week to get the scoop. There is some highly innovative thinking going on here. The reason I was asked to visit also involves something that will NOT be announced on June 1, but my name was floated as one possible way to help make it happen and they wanted to gauge my interest and availability. I'd love to be involved in what I think would be an extremely cool project, so if Cakewalk can convince the other Gibson divisions to let me be "on loan" for four months or so, it will probably happen.

Oh no, this thread is going to double in length...

Pre June 1 deal is for Platinum users which have paid for 2 years.
At June 1, there is going to be the deal for all other users.

I was waiting for a machine upgrade & win10 installation first.
(my current computer is too slow, old hard disk is almost full,
and have no knowledge how to reinstall and transfer license after switching to a new machine)

Till your computer is still running Windows XP, you can install X3 and Platinum. I have not
experienced any performance penalty from using newer version. And I am using rather
old computer.
There is no license transfer for Sonar or any other Cakewalk products. Also all bundled with Sonar
not CW packages (Melodyne, XLN) are strait forward to move from one computer to another.
Note that it is legit to have all that software installed on 2 computers simultaneously (it is
not allowed to use both at the same time, but that is a rule and not technical restriction).

I am afraid that lifetime platinum upgrade deal is not available after June1,

They are going to announce it at June 1, so it will be available.

thank you for clearing, the current deal was not meant for me
And I would not want to paid for a yearly (non-lifetime) subscription
without using it in months ahead.

I bought Sonar X3 Studio in a box a few months ago (as a hobby)...
I have not tried installing before, (hard disk is very old and very full)
I am afraid of (re)activating problem on a new computer,
that is why I am not installing into an old computer yet (no disk space anyway).
Hopefully installing, re-installing online process is easy.

They are going to announce it at June 1, so it will be available.

guess I would need to wait for the options available in June 1.

thank you for your information

Well what I said was more about being an example that Cakewalk is thinking in new directions. It's a project that's probably wouldn't be of great interest to many of the people on this forum, but it is based on SONAR and would require virtually no resources from Cakewalk itself. So you can safely ignore speculating about it

I see there is still some confusion about the deal expiration time! My e-mail says plainly:
THE EXPIRATION OF THE PREFFERED CUSTOMERS FOR LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION IS AUGUST 31ST!!!!!!
Some of the wording in these posts make it sound like it is over June 1st!!! That is the full blown ANNOUNCEMENT deadline.
I don't mean to use caps but, man, 28 pages of confusion over a very simple announcement seems a little out of hand! BTW, I will be getting that lifetime subscription. Thanks, Bakers! LOL

I got the email and ordered. Thank you Bakers. I trust you, you have never given me any reason not to. I'm sure this will be a good thing or it would not be offered to long time users as a good thing. Cake has more sense than that and they have proven many times that they listen to the users, interact on the forums, and they care. I think we should trust them. We're talking about people who are here regularly and who have been here regularly for a long time, not faceless, nameless corporate suits. They would not knowingly sell us a "bill of goods", and that's what I think!
I'm excited! I don't expect everything to be free from now on, just core Platinum updates and that's great! If I feel a need for another 200 compressors, I expect I'll have to pay for them, lol.
Thanks again!

The level of absurd speculation following this announcement is breathtaking. A company with an extraordinary track record of customer commitment offers lifetime updates to one of the longest established DAW's on the market at a bargain price, and people still complain! Seriously folks - it's a no brainer, and you even have until August 31st to save your pennies.

Thanks Cakewalk - you really are the best:)

The reason for that is because people are not stupid.  When something sounds too good to be true - it usually is!

We will see in 6 more days or so.   I mean honestly, if I do this lifetime updates thing, they probably will NEVER see my cash ever again.  That is a mighty big thank you, no?
Gibson is a corporation.  Every move is a financial one.  EVERY ONE.   There are no "thank yous" in the corporate world.   I work in corp america.. if there ever IS a thank you, it comes with the hope of some financial benefit for the corporation.

I am not saying Gibson is a terrible company and I am not saying this is a bad deal yet... we will have to wait until June 1st... but if I am going to give them any more money, its quite a big thank you, don't you think?

As I've explained before, happy customers spread the word, which helps create more happy customers. It is incorrect to assume that situations cannot be "win-win." In an optimum environment, the needs of the corporation and the needs of the customer are in alignment. Setting up that kind of environment is the goal here.

No e-mail here, but I have a question.

I am a Platinum user from the day it came out and I just resubscribed for another year about a month ago. How would this work? I'm paying another $99 right after just doing it a month ago that will go into affect once the current subscription is up? How does that work? It is just a little deflating that I just paid $99 for another year when there's now supposedly $99 for a lifetime membership. :/

If I understand this correctly, the 99$ price is for those who upgraded already this year (99$ deducted). For those who did not, the price will be 199$.
All the best.

I'm in the $149 bracket. I signed up for Platinum in 2015 and renewed in 2016, but didn't get the $99 offer, so there is more to it than that. A stinger for me on Vietnamese wages, but I I'll probably take up the offer once I know I have a visa (mine expired almost one month ago)

EDIT: I'm not sure if this post triggered something, but I received a standard email from Cakewalk that explained thie pricing. I won't post it and it seems they wanted us not to share the emails, but the maths didn't add up.

That spanned the period from December 22 through March 3, which does not take into account the significant success of the 2016 guitars from the USA and Memphis divisions, as well as several other successes that started in late Q1 and continue.

Look at MI SalesTrack for March. It's copyrighted info so I can't give specifics, but suffice it to say I wouldn't reference it if it didn't support what I'm saying, and then some (for example also look at how KRK is doing these days - not just the guitars).

that can also be achieved by giving me a 50% discount or something for a few months or something.   They literally will never get anymore money out of me ever again!  I am sure there will be PLENTY others!   I use 3rd party apps for all my FX and SYNTHS...   perhaps if something really cool comes along once in a while like VocalSync, I'd pay extra... but literally i can count maybe 1 or 2 in the past 18 months so far that I would actually pay for.

Seems like a strange way to get new customers.  Like I said... I am not ripping on them as we dont have the full story yet... but of course I am skeptical when a corporation literally wants to NOT take my money :)

I bought it, and here's why: For $99 now, even if Sonar was discontinued at the end of 2017, I still got a deal! If it continues on, then it's FREE!!

Now, Cakewalk can decide to manage that any way they see fit, so long as the level of expected delivery, support, and bug-free experience doesn't wane and the product isn't discontinued. Perhaps this is an infusion to invest into something. That's ok, too. I see it as a risk to CW, more than to me, but to be a nay-sayer to $99, even skeptics should see this as a serious potential value. We won't know that until the end of 2017, but if you didn't buy this deal, and things are going well by the end of 2017, you might just regret it then.

As I've explained before, happy customers spread the word, which helps create more happy customers. It is incorrect to assume that situations cannot be "win-win." In an optimum environment, the needs of the corporation and the needs of the customer are in alignment. Setting up that kind of environment is the goal here.

that can also be achieved by giving me a 50% discount or something for a few months or something.

If you really actually use all 3rd party FX and Synths, it would seem to be Plat would be a waste of money for you anyway.  It is the FX + Synths that create the premium price as Artist and Professional are both viable options.

Me?  I'd hate to be without the pro-channel and included plugs there.  I like the quality and integration.  Yes, I use some 3rd party ones for sure.  But if those same things were offered as integrated, I'd certainly prefer that.

As for getting new customers...offering a product with lifetime updates included is exactly how you do it.  Players like Ableton came along and left Sonar in the dust in the market place (from a market share standpoint, which has noting to do with how good the product is or is not), they have to add serious value to steer new customers towards the product.

I bought the upgrade from Sonar X3 Producer to Sonar Platinum a couple of months ago. I didn't activated yet.

Knowing that, I'd like to know what is my best course of action: Should I wait after June 1st to activate Sonar Platinum with the license I bought, or should I activate it now and ask for a lifetime update?

I wrote to support, but got no answer.

Got the email about lifetime upgrade, but the price is 199$
I did renew my platinum membership one of the last days in february. Why don't I get the 99$ offer?

Edit: Joey Adams (Cakewalk) fixed it for me. Thanks Joey

Well, I'm not too impressed with responsiveness from Cakewalk.  See, I got the Lifetime Update notice.  Ok, clicked on it, and it said "$199 - upgrade to Sonar Platinum with Lifetime Updates"

Um, I already have Sonar Platinum.  I actually bought Sonar Professional on August 23, 2015.  Then, about three weeks later, I ponied up the money and upgraded to Platinum.  Now, I've been using Cakewalk since 1987 - version 1 for DOS (when it was 12 Tones).  I upgraded to every version, and then they stopped making Cakewalk and went to Pro Audio.  Upgraded again, then they started with Sonar X series.  Skipped a few, then got Sonar X3.  Lo and behold, not long after, no more X series.  Now it was Sonar Professional.

Damn.

Got that, then (as I said) upgraded to Platinum.  So now they're doing the Microsoft thing - no more versions.  This is it.  And you get a lifetime upgrade.

Sure.  Until they either abandon it completely or come out with the Sonar Cakewalk Super Session Modulation series, and stop supporting Platinum.

Whatever.

I wrote to Customer Support asking about how much I'm actually supposed to pay, and how long they expect the product life of Sonar Platinum to be.  That was two weeks ago.  No answer.  Called today.  No service reps are available.  Called Cleverbridge.  They have no idea.

The latest e-mail said "The regular price of upgrading from SONAR Platinum to lifetime updates will be $199. Since you renewed already this year, your price will be $199 minus the amount you paid when you purchased your renewal.".  So I clicked, and I was still logged in, and the price was still $199.

So, I'm turning to the forum.  Any ideas about how much I'm actually supposed to pay for this Lifetime upgrade?

The basic qualification is that you purchased Platinum in Jan 2015 and extended your membership in 2016.

You probably have to wait 8 days to see if you can go lifetime for $199. JMO based on the facts.

A lot of people that should have received the email didn't, and it looks like Cake is sending out repeated mailings to be sure no one is left out. Better too many notices than none at all.
