Still no e-mail, but my upgrade is $149? I've owned ever current version since 2012...what do I have to do to get the $99 price? Either way I think it's best to wait until June 1 to see what exactly it is we are buying.

rwheeler For example, if you renewed SONAR Platinum for $99 earlier this year, you pay only $99 for lifetime updates. Pretty simple! We’ve already taken care of all the details and adjusted your price so it will appear correctly in the store.
I renewed for $99 in January and it is still showing as $199 in the store.
Indeed. All set.

skitch_84 On the page for the lifetime update, it says at the top:
Lifetime Updates included When you upgrade to this version of SONAR Platinum, you will receive every new core feature, enhancement, and even fixes for all future versions of SONAR.
________________
I would consider things like vocal sync, drum replacer, and aux tracks to fall under "core features". I don't think Cakewalk would try to pull a fast one on us like that...
Indeed. They have never displayed such proclivities in the past. I suppose it's human nature to look gift horses in the mouth, but I have to wonder why it is, when CW have been so consistently cool with us for so long, and overdelivered on most things they've promised, that there is always this tendency to look for the catch... It must be a trick! Somewhere, in some tricky wording in the fine print, they are clearly up to no good! I can feel it! (Though with *other* companies it's often true, as Tom Waits so memorably put it, that "the large print giveth, and the small print taketh away"...)

rtucker55 Yup, My Membership is now valid through December 25, 2037...
Does this show up in the Sonar program itself or just on your cakewalk products page?
After purchasing the lifetime, mine shows this date (December 25, 2037) on my Cakewalk products page but my Sonar program itself about still shows the original membership valid until (05 Jan 2017). I'm guessing that the date in the Sonar program About, will advance in due course. I have opened up CCC and clicked "Check Now" on the settings page.
We'll be fixing the date on the screen for the next update. Don't make too much out of it. You're set to receive updates for all future versions of SONAR.

There we go. Have to say it is a little worrying just because I figured CW was counting on renewals as their recurring revenue stream. If they are letting you buy out of that I worry as to what their long term funding plan is. Hopefully not to sell out to Facebook like Occulus :D.

You can probably get it for $199, which amounts to the same thing. It kind of makes sense that you would not get the same price as those who have already renewed this year...

jb101 Maybe Cakewalk have listened to the people who only want bug fixes and improvements.
Perhaps the lifetime offer will give you those, but any new features (like vocal sync, drum replacer or aux tracks were) or add ons (Melodyne etc.) will be charged.
Just a thought.
Doubtful. Whenever they do deals with third party companies, it's usually for a lite version of the plugin. Then they turn around and make a crapton of money from the Cakewalk people who upgrade to full version (like Melodyne has). It's a win/win for both companies.

I think this is an experimental adjustment to the business model. This will give them an injection of cash, that they wouldn't otherwise get in the short term, from their existing user base (us). This will presumably keep them solvent while they release some more industry-leading stuff that will, if all goes well, bring lots more users into the fold in the future, which will offset the revenue they won't be getting from us 'lifers' in the years to come (though I'm sure they'll release other things for us to buy, and we will likely buy them...) It's an act of faith on our part, investing in their future success where, hopefully, everybody wins in the long term. That's my read anyway. EDIT - it's an act of faith on CW's part too, it should be said! And the fact that they're doing it leads me to think they have a fairly good reason for being confident. Otherwise why take the risk of foregoing almost-guaranteed future income from those of us who have updated reliably for years and are therefore likely to continue doing so?

I don't understand the financial benefit to offer me a $99 lifetime updates deal when I've been paying $50/month for the past year. Something doesn't add up. I am skeptical into buying this right now.
The email says:
Limited-time Offer: Lifetime Updates will be available only through August 31st, 2016. Act now to secure your Lifetime Updates. I guess I can wait until after the big June 1st announcements and then make a decision, but this is perplexing to me why they offer this!
