That is the part that warms my heart. We gave and we
tried. I'm so proud of Janet. She says I brought the song
to life and maybe so but she wrote it.

I want to give each and everyone of you a huge heartfelt
thank you. Maybe Janet will pitch in with some notes
of her own. I prefer a personal thanks to each of you
but I don't want to hog the show.

The very important thing for me is to know what your
views are and short of some minor suggestions they
are all saying well done.

One person mentioned a "big" production and I can see
that as an option I didn't want to take it too far as to
the have the production mean more than the song.

Thanks everyone

Jimmy, if you don't mind? Since others have been thanked "personally?" I would like for you to thank me "personally?"

You're welcome (in advance ;-)

Please pray for Foxwolfen, pray for peace for him. And an end to any deception, anger, and hatred around him or influencing him.

Just got thru listening to this.. I really could care less about the mix..This is such a heart-felt song (music, lyrics, and performance) and it really touches the inner being IMO. I took this for what it was meant to be... My applause Jimmy & Janet. Beautiful!

I'm going to listen again! Man Jimmy, your vocals are absolutely perfect for this. Really "chilling". Please explain how you got that tone on the bass? How did you get it to punch and ring like that? Do you have an external cab that's exciting the strings?

By the end of this song, I was like Meg in this clip..

You asked about the bass tone? How?

The sample started a long time ago. so long that
I cant remember. suffice it to say it was just
something simple way before all this fancy
1 million sample library's were around.

One day after doing a mix I re sampled the bass from
"that" mix. (just one note) It had eq and a multi band
comp. so I sampled it effects and all. now I simply
use sfz player to do the bass parts from that sample.

This mix doesn't have any comp or limiting at all
on the master bus and none in mastering either.
so this mix has no comping on the bass neither
in its track or the master.

Even the vocs are straight into a presonus
firebox. didn't even use any of my tube pres
at all. The mic is about a 135 dollar condenser.

The setup is so basic. a low cost mic and interface
and sonar and that's it.

And then I stopped cause i thought 'what for'? they might get offended or somethin.
then, i was listening to Randy Travis thinkin what a great song for him.
born to fly like the wind in the sky.
there's a lot of feeling in this song.

A lovely song Janet... Very well written and arranged...
I love Jimmy's treatment of it...

I'm hearing some timing issues with the piano, and I'd like more variation in drum track...
Otherwise an outstanding production...

Excellent work Janet and Jimmy...

Janet and Jimmy - late to the part, but better late than never, eh?

this is an excellent song!  Janet - your lyric writing skills are actually very good!  If memory serves me correctly you've written 3 songs with lyrics (that you've posted), one for your grandson, one that Calista (sp?) sang and this one.  your lyrical talent is one to be jealous of - I love the way you tell stories with your lyrics!

Jimmy - this is an excellent rendition of her song.  I am very pleased with the choice of instruments, the singing, everything.  yes, there are a couple of minor timing issues, but they add to the character of the song instead of causing a distraction.  your vocals are better in this song than some of the others you've done (not meant as a criticism of your earlier tunes).

who is doing the backing vocals?  is that you as well?  or did robby send something in (I see him mentioning it in a post or two).

this is a real treat all around!  bravo!

Thanks for the vocal compliment. The truth is
I've had people say or insinuate that i'm not a very
good singer in my times. Made my living playing
guitar and singing in bands much of my life.

I must admit it got to me to the point where
I considered my self a non singer. And playing live
doing cover tunes (some of which I hated)
(because the band wanted to do them)
(and yes who had to sing these songs I hated?
ME.

Many times when someone here says I'm a good
singer I have those thoughts of those times when
they more or less said I couldn't sing. So thank
you much for the compliments.

Janet wrote the song and I did everything else.
You are correct on the timing and variation. But
I doubt I'll change it for now. There are many
reasons but in this day and time of (anyone
can fix anything) (quantize) (throw in a vst
drum roll etc) I'm getting tired of the trickery.

I was going to do those things like you
mentioned but this time I just said no,
If I couldn't play it Live I aint going to use
technology to change things.

For example the piano. If i played these parts
live I would not have the quantize luxury.
And I f I played these drum parts live I'd
keep it simple Because drums are something
that is out of my league to play live.

I 'm just in a basics mindset lately.

Thanks so much for the comments.

Yes these are my best vocals but I think it may
be because of the song a good song goes a long way.
I'm recording vocs different too. Crazy thing is its
just the mic straight into the interface. No fancy tube
Pre and stuff like that. I'm singing the harmonies too.
Some of my earlier vocs are not all that great so this
performance feels like like doing something at least.

Thanks for the descriptive and constructive comments

Oh you can sing, no doubt about that. I don't listen to the radio much anymore, but I do watch the music awards shows from time to time to see the latest and greatest singers/musicians, and I can tell you right now, YOU CAN SING!

This songs IMHO is a hit! It needs to be out there for sale on Itunes or some of the other music stores.

Notice I said - "It needs to be out there for sale, I didn't say it needed to be redone by somebody else", IMO this one is radio ready.

Really nice job on this! It's not easy to get a nice blend between acoustic guitar and a piano because they both use the same frequencies but the mix on this one allows both to be heard clearly. I have to comment on the beautiful tone of the acoustic guitar, it really rings out nicely.

Very nice songwriting as well. You could easily market this song as I could definately see this being picked up by a major country recording artist and doing very well on the charts.

Great job ya'll.

Sorry, Herb!  lol

Thanks Pete!  I sent the track to Jimmy to prove to him how well I can't sing.  And two days later he surprised me with this.  :-)

Yep, James, it was in March it looks like.  Tim bumped it as one of the 'best of 2010.'  And I didn't even pay him!  :-)

Steve, thanks.  That laughing smiley seems to be in an odd place, (to me) but maybe you've started New Year's Eve celebrations early?  lol
