I would love to see some videos on final mixing, mastering, and exporting to a finished file... This is an area where I am a bit aloof in SONAR, and I reckon a few others might be too...

The new Skylight video did a great job of opening my eyes to the hidden power of the browser! I now have it customized to point and display my important files (loops/projects/etc). Being able to drop one-shots into session3 might have been evident to some, but I didn't know that. The browser allows for me to make better use of ezdrummer as well. I'm turning into an X1 fan... I can see room for future features in the browser... But I'm enjoying the high level of where it is at right now. Thanks for the video.

I was surprised to discover that the flash Videos on CakeTV are working for me again. I went there today and they were just working after they didn't even show up for me since I had Internet Explorer 9 installed. Flash videos worked in other sites, but not at the CakeTV site. I'm glad to see that they're working again for me. :)

I'm having trouble finding how to get features or modules. Everything seems organized according to product, which makes sense after you buy, but I can't figure out what software I need to buy in order to get my preferred modules. Some I figured out, like Audio Snap 2 is in Sonar X1 Studio, as is VVocal. But is there an Audio Snap in GTP4 or any other product before X1 Studio? I went ahead and bought GTP4 because I just couldn't find answers. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have just waiting and saved up for studio. I couldn't even find out if X1 SE got me a break as a Sonar user or as "any cakewalk user." I just find it so difficult to find answers. When I do searches, I can find descriptions but not always which product I need to buy. My composition technique since I'm not a drummer is to take my guitar riffs and tweak the drums timing from an existing MIDI loop, and with Audio Snap I can also use wave recordings, which is fantastic. I used to do this manually, so I really look forward to having that feature. The only other thing I'd like to know is whether there are effects particular to vocals? I know that typically it's just reverb and maybe delay if they want something fancy, but if there are presets to help novice vocalists like me, that would be great. 1( Audio Snap, any version other than X1 Studio? I have X1 LE and GTP4 2( Effects presets for vocals? 3) And I almost forgot about Rapture LE. Isn't that included with X1 LE? I can't find it installed or to download. Thanks.

I REALLY wish the Reference Guide could be made available as a printed version. It would be especially useful for me with the change to X1 as I'll be wanting to do some serious studying and it's a pain doing it on a screen. Yes, I've ordered Scott's 'Power' book but I'd also pay for a printed version of the Guide, and I'm sure a lot of others would. How about it Brandon You can DL the PDF file and use Calibre to convert in into pretty much any format including .mobi for Kindle... or you can take print it out, use a hole punch, and put each chapter into its own folder. Actually that might be better that the compact "phonebook" format of earlier manuals. I think having it on the i-pad is a GREAT idea, better than the Kindle because of the screen being bigger... it is many more pages on the Kindle than it is in PDF... it gives new meaning to exhaustive. Obama's healthcare POS pales in comparison. Sorry I redact that poitical statement... Rideau

LOL ya I seen the page count at 1850 and about bought the farm, I was about ready to just start printing it out double sided as I have with EZDrummer,Superior 2.0, EZPlayer Pro, I even printed out manual for my Digitech GNX4 Guitar Workstation that had a quite large section on how to use Cakewalks Pro Tracks Plus. But 1850 I don't even have enough paper in the house if I did double sided, be 925 pages then. Not to mention unless I use teh Kodak AIO 3-1 printer It would cost me what about $70 in ink

Yeah, nice work guys. I mean that sincerely. But I do feel the need to add some balance here and point out that it also demonstrates a good amount of what I hate about the X1 UI. There's a lot of subjective stuff there. And it also conveniently omits things like: "In X1, you can no longer distinguish all automation envelopes in a single glance!" "In X1, you'll be clicking the left mouse button more than ever!" "In X1, you're limited to a restricted choice of text colors, and we've adjusted the contrast so their harder to read!" "In X1 track view, pan, gain and volume controls all use the same color of blue!" "In X1, device names are munged into a confusing jumble of letters - and you'll have less room for the text!" By the way - What on earth did the devs have against "cascading right-click menus" ? What made you hate them so virulently that you felt you had to remove them - even in cases where they are more efficient than the replacement mechanism provided in X1? I see a lot of hard-learned UI conventions thrown out without any thought as to why they were used in the first place. What's heartbreaking is the truly useful workflow enhancements in X1 would have been a godsend if they were added to a 9.0 release. (No, I'm not one of those folks who think Cakewalk should be supporting the 8.5'rs with an updated release.) (Yes, I'm bitter.)

With all due respect, your points don't address a single thing that was in the video. We chose ten things that are easier to do in X1 than in older versions of SONAR and demonstrated them. Nothing against cascading right-click menus, but would you really rather have to dive through one of those rather than simply drag and drop a plugin every time you wanted to add an effect to the project? I know I wouldn't. SP

Nicely made Seth... My compliments on a job well done... But I can't say that I agree with all the opinions regarding "easier in X1"... X1 I still don't get the browser... You still have a menu of sorts to go thru to find things (how else could it be done?) and then I must drag the object around the screen... The drop down menu system of past was every bit as quick to page thru as expanding/finding in the browser and a simple click is far easier than draggin the object across screen... I won't go into more as I'm not trying to derail the topic. I'm just reminding you that not all of us find all these things improved... But your video does show the differences very well and gets a lot of info across in a small amount of time... Nice job... Keni

And where did that go? Its still there you know. You can still use the FX bin for example to insert an FX or synth just as in 8xx.

Seth Perlstein [Cakewalk] With all due respect, your points don't address a single thing that was in the video. Nothing against cascading right-click menus, but would you really rather have to dive through one of those rather than simply drag and drop a plugin every time you wanted to add an effect to the project? I know I wouldn't. The respect is mutual, Seth. I wasn't addressing the points the video made directly, for two reasons: One, because on the whole, they are easier in X1, although I believe that "easier" is subjective (as you admit in your comment about cascading right-click menus), and that not everyone agrees about what is "easier". Two, I wanted to add some balance, and bring up some changes in X1 that (in my opinion) make it harder to use, and of course these weren't highlighted in the video (because that wasn't the point of the video, I understand.) That was the point of my post. I'll acknowledge it was cheeky, but I think the points are still valid. I don't expect them to be incorporated into the next video Cakewalk releases, but on the other hand it will be pleasant if the next SONAR release addresses them. Cakewalk might even get my upgrade $$ again next year. Best,

But your video does show the differences very well and gets a lot of info across in a small amount of time... Nice job... Keni Thanks, Keni! One of the biggest benefits of X1's Browser is that it is permanent, as opposed to the open/ close nature of pop-up and right-click menus. Take inserting a plugin, for example. With the plugin menu open in the Browser it is always there. With the old style right-click menu you have to navigate through that cascading system each and every time you want to insert a plugin. Also, that menu goes away with every plugin inserted, unlike X1's Browser which is always there. Also, you don't have to drag plugins or synths all the way aacross the screen as simply dropping a plugin anywhere on a track or in the track pane itself will insert that plugin on that track. And synths can simply be double clicked or drag and dropped. And Screensets remember which section is open in the Browser, so you could easily set up a Screenset with the plugin list open, one with the synth list open, etc. Much faster and more flexible than using the right-click menus, IMHO. For what its worth, , though you can still use the right-click menus to insert plugins and synths should you really want to. But I typically wouldn't/ SP
