Responded. Nice survey, I know they are hard to write and present to users - so great job. I suggested several things that I think would be useful to many of us.

I just wanted to help improve Sonar. You didn't want additional votes for UI customization, VST3 support, etc?

@Spacey - No, I was talking about my store account on the Cakewalk site, not the forum.

I don't understand why it works differently for me.  I changed my email address and log in to my account with the new email address. I use the GBP store, so perhaps it is different if you use the USA store.

Very odd.

My wish was that the survey would be conducted the way Cakewalk intended. Now, it may just prove to be an expensive mistake.

Oh, I expect they are going to get a lot of help now. Why some won't let a company conduct their own business is beyond me.

Yeah, maybe I did the wrong thing. People make mistakes. I'm sorry about that.
I couldn't help because I was the one who suggested conducting a user survey when bakers appeared in a recent thread.
Of course, it doesn't mean my post affected their decision. I just wanted to participate to improve Sonar, and couldn't help it.....because I'm a long-time Sonar user, too.

Maybe local does make the difference. I do know, as I previously stated, it has worked the way they have stated for many years.

What I find odd is that you are saying you see ;

Please note: This will not change the email address you use to login. This will only change where you receive order confirmation & registration emails.

and it doesn't hold true for you.

Thought I'd add....
No I won't be following somebodies link to the survey- if Cake wants me to fill it out they can do whatever they need to to get my email contact info correct. Just one more bug in their operations IMHO.

Yep! I filled it out and was so excited when I saw the listing for mastering. I have so be envious of
the Studio One users who have a great tool in their kit for mastering within the daw. If Sonar could
give us something like that in our tool kits, I would be so grateful. But because I can never be satisfied for long I also asked for true wave editing within the daw as well.

Not sure why exactly but the Survey coupled with a shiney new forum leads me to feel much more optimistic about the future of Sonar. I do wonder though about the timeline of implementation, meaning they are asking for input, but where in the product life cycle while the recommendations be implemented? My hope would go to some general TLC and an X2b product now and then feature enhancements for X3.

Mind you I know this is just aimless speculation on my part but as a say with the new forum and all it does make me think the future is looking up.

Mike

I got the invitation and did the survey.

What got my interest was the way certain questions were worded.  In these questions, if you didn't have experience with other DAW software, I don't see how your answer could not be skewed.  If someone asks how you feel some feature is implemented, you might answer great unless you've looked elsewhere and you found your favorite product was more average than excellent.

I posted years back that it appeared that SONAR was headed for a complete "soup to nuts" program when I saw that clip effects and clip automation were included.  All they need is few more features for CD indexes and that sort of thing to allow CD burning.  Samplitude is already there and has been for years.  SONAR has a lot of the same features.

There aren't many cases where I'd personally want to see someone fill out the survey who doesn't own the product, but honestly, I think you'd be one of the exceptions in my book.  You seem to have a well-rounded view of what SONAR is and can be, and you never seem to go off the deep end about everything single thing you don't like.

And knowing that you use multiple DAWs I see a sense of balance in your views.   Same goes for your posts over at the other "S" forum.

Re: Did You Get the Sonar Survey??? More Important Did You Respond??? 2013/06/07 14:52:11 (permalink)
I was greatly encouraged to see this survey and filled it out as completely and accurately as possible.

I posted elsewhere that I was switching to Digital Performer once it is stable on Windows, but the truth is that it has made me take a hard look at both the things I like and don't like about Sonar.  I've been going through the Groove3 vids on DP and think I'll make a feature request for everything that I liked in that program that Sonar does not currently do :-)  Heck, the list isn't even that long and in a couple of instances it's made me go back to look if maybe I just don't know *how* to do a given task more efficiently in Sonar.  Jerry Gerber's post on notation shortcuts certainly was a 'slap the forehead' moment and it hadn't occurred to me that other DAWs won't let you have multiple staff windows.

Since DP isn't all there yet, maybe the upside to all this is that I spend the time and dig a little deeper.  11 years of investment, both in time and finances, would be a lot to give up given the meager amount of time I have for these pursuits.

Regarding CW staff presence at the forum, I was reminded that this isn't the first time they've been light on posts but then the next release comes out and features show up that were long requested (<ahem> notation excepted ;-) )

I'll be interested to see what results come of the survey in the long run.

Does this quote from the new TOS apply to mcq, do you think? -

"Intentionally and repeatedly bad mouthing Cakewalk and staff solely for the sake of trying to discourage users from using Cakewalk products will result in a permanent ban."

I actually thought the survey was a little alarming. Most of those questions should have been explored a while ago..we're already at the 2nd iteration of X2....and now CW asks if users would like work on improving the audio engine...Really?

You're in an amazing state.

So stay there.

I though they were asking about priorities e.g. Would we rather more improvement on audio engine, or on take lanes.

There was a major improvement in the audio engine from X1 to X2, wasn't there?

I can't say I was alarmed.  Quite the opposite.

I usually do not participate in taking surveys because most surveys are a waste of my time.

However, I took the survey and was pleasantly surprised that there was a place for comments.

That was far more valuable than the rest of the survey imho.

Thank you for your kind words, Steve. I think users have the right to complain about bugs because they paid for the features that are suppose to work. But for features that are not included in the product, I think users should simply submit feature requests and wait, instead of ranting, or start looking for a new product.

It's really nice bakers chimed in these survey threads and explained how much they care about their customers. Until recently X3 didn't look as promising as the version 3 of the other "S" daw (I don't remember finding you there, do you use a different username? Maybe I just didn't notice you?).
Now, with the new, shiny forum and the well thought out survey, Sonar's future looks brighter.

Jlien- if you want a better comparison you should get Sonar Producer or otherwise get a scaled down version of Studio One.  ProChannel is a very big piece of Sonar now.

How did you answer the first question in the survey?
