Hi ladies and gents. My first post on this forum.. I've been in the game now for a few years and have worked on many different DAW's since I started but spent most my time with cubase and pro tools software. I'm still a fan of Cubase and always will be(not so much pro tools), but Sonar opened new doors for me. In my studio I worked with Cubase SX3 and moved onto 5 when it got released. Even though known for it's stability, cubase just started crashing after about two years! I thought it was my pc so i built a new one but still it kept crashing for some reason. I know i could've figured out what the problem was but then i remembered working on Sonar 6 once in a small studio i freelanced at and really liked it so decided maybe it'll be a good time for a change(also seeing that my last cubase crash wiped about 6 projects, paying customers btw, off my pc for no reason). I spoke to a friend of mine that i know worked with Sonar 8 and 8.5 PE and he told me he's moving over to cubase. So i swopped my discs with his, got some updates from cakewalk and since registering i've not even missed my old DAWs. No crashes so far and a smiling engineer . I'm still trying to get over the initial lurning curve so that's why i joined up here to recieve(and give where i can) advice and tips. I hope we can help each other out.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem You would be better off puting this in the X1 Forum rather than this thread. Also Sonar broke and got excited ???? What do you meen by it broke ? When it Exited what error did you get ? Everyone is going to need some more info on what the actual problem is for instance Will it still load ? etc etc Like I said though you are best puting this in the X1 part of the Forum you are more likely to get help there

I'm just miserable after switching to Sonar X1 from Sonar 8.5. In the last two months I've lossed a tremendous amount of productivity. I've never resisted launching this software more because I don't want to lose my precious play time enduring the pain of trying to get the software to do what I want. I'm taking the hit now because I know I'll want to keep upgrading in the future. Miserable... G

Hi, I assume that you might have experienced unexpected dropouts or pops ( which you mentioned as "broke" and "exited") during your recording session or playback. This can be solved by the following. 1. In the Menu Edit- Preferences-Audio- Playback and Recording. Change thew driver mode to ASIO, if you are using WDM or WASAPI. FA101 supports ASIO driver mode. 2. Clic k the tab "Sync and caching" in the AUDIO tab. increase the Play back and Recording I/O buffersize in the multiples of 128. by default, the i/o buffer size will be 256 each. change it to 512 and apply and start play back. if droput happens, again change the i/o buffer size to 768 or 1024. And this value does not affect the audio quality. regards, dennesen.

Not a good story for my son, unfortunately. He started recording his ideas when he was 12 using audacity. He bought a cakewalk UA-1G usb interface which came with sonar le. He then upgraded to Sonar 7 studio edition because he wanted to do "more" and had so many problems he moved back to Audacity and uses Cubase which came with a new Tascam and digital keyboard that he bought. Sorry.

standard pc. 3g h/threaded but works ok with audacity and cubase. I think it may have been a faulty UA-1G but now reluctant to go back. Very little support from the retailer he bought it from. Just wanted to sell Sonar.

Just found out that it was a faulty UA-1G. Bought from Dolphin Music in the UK. They have just gone bust. He did n't realise it was faulty at the time. Do you know whether Cakewalk had any problems with the UA-1G? Cheers from Windy Cambridge

I recently moved from Digital Performer to Sonar 8.5. After moving several song projects from Digital Performer on the MAC to Sonar 8.5 on the PC, the audio is no longer in sync with the MIDI arrangemenets. The MIDI tracks were easily moved and the audio tracks had to be moved separately. When they were reunited on Sonar 8.5 tracks, the audio tracks are no longer in sync with the MIDI tracks even though all audio clips were placed in exactly the same bar location as before. Can you suggest the proper Sonar tool or process to re-sync the audio with the MIDI? Thanks in advance!

If so, try setting the tempo of Sonar project to match that of DP project. Just a thought anyways. Also, you may want to post this in Sonar 8 forum since you're actually looking for help. Probably more people will see the post there.

I started out on a Roland VS-880EX, then on to Pro Tools. This was in 1998-2002 or so. I purchased Cakewalk 4.0 since I was pretty committed to the PC. I have been a dedicated supporter of Cakewalk on through Sonar to now X1. Although I continue to use ProTools M-Powered in the studio that I do contract work in. I prefer to use Sonar 8.5.3 in my own studio. Like I tell my contract studio's owner, until he steps up to ProTools HD, I can run circles around his system with my Sonar and VS-700C! I have been starting to really get into X1, but really waiting until I get a windows 7 based computer to utilize it.

I'm just now going nuts over my X1 producer just like I went nuts over my casio VZ-1 synth over 20 years ago. Both my X1 and my vz synth makes an excellent companion together. Maybe the downside of the x1 is the learning curve and it was very steep. I finally figured out the stability problems of the recordings and mixdowns I was having before. Since it's all fixed now I'm very happy with it for the most part, what more could I ask for? Keep up the good work Cakewalk.

Switched to Sonar from FLstudio after I realized that I had gotten so used to flstudio that every song I wrote was coming out similar because I wrote in the exact same manner every time. Not to mention I didn't like the pattern based workflow and the playlist editor got really messy and didn't offer very many customization options. When I purchased a new hardware synthesizer and automation of it in flstudio was pretty basic and a pain in the butt I switched. I tried almost every other DAW out there and just didn't like their workflows or interfaces. I never gave sonar a chance because i thought the older interface was horrible and cluttered and then I found sonar x1 and loved it. Now I have the ultimate customization set up in sonar. I can just click record and start jamming and everything is sequenced in for me. Very nice.

After a 15 year break from music, I was advised, for medical reasons, to find a hobby for relaxation purposes, I was a pro photographer working every hour I could to keep the wolf from the door. I had played guitar in several local bands, so I went and spent my hard earned cash on an instrument that I could get 'serious' with, a PRS Custom 22. After a while, I started to write songs, and was persuaded to record them. My first venture was a Korg D4, a nice little machine which I grew out of in no time at all, but I had got some songs up on myspace, and was getting some interest. Next up was a Boss BR1600CD, an excellent piece of kit , I got some record label interest with the songs I recorded on this. However, the H/D died, after several attempts to get it sorted, I gave up with it. Now here is some good advice if you are going to use one one these. I had backed up all my songs onto CD, but when the machine broke, I found that NO program would open the files, I was left with the WAV versions only, you need another, similar machine to access your music, and at £1200.00 a time, it is expensive. Taking advice from my local music store, I purchased a Tascam US-144 sound card which came complete with Cubase LE-4, I was told that this would be the thing for me.............WRONG, it never worked right with Vista, many many emails to and fro to Steinberg failed to fix it, several people on here state the arrogance of Steinberg, I can only agree, the Midi never connected with my keyboards, and it would 'drop out' constantly. I am using Vista with 1 gig processor and 8 gig ram, so it should have never drop out on a simple guitar track, no matter what the latency was set at. I went to another dealer who recommended Calkwalk Home Studio 7, which I eventually bought, this worked a treat, the midi connected without a hitch it worked without any of the Cubase problems. I had spoken to a guy at Roland UK prior to this, he was very very helpful, even tried to get the Cubase to work, which is more than Steinberg did.. it was this guys help and attitude that sold it to me, not once did he criticise Cubase or other DAW companies, but he spelled out exactly what HS7 would do, and he was right. Now, one thing for sure, I am not a computer wizz kid, I am a photographer who is making my way in music using old gear, it fits my music style. I have problems...loads of them, but unlike Cubase, I can come onto the forum at Cakewalk and get almost instant help, Beagle and the rest of the guys, you are a godsend, not just to idiots like me, but 100's of beginners (and no so beginners). Very patient when asked the most idiotic of questions... of course, they are not idiotic to the person who is asking the question, them like me, are asking because we have come to a very large brick wall, and we can't find a way round it on our own, at the forum, help is ALWAYS available from people who care, and this is one of the main reasons for sticking with Cakewalk.. so many real people believe in it, and that will do for me. However, I was offered Producer 8 at a very very good price, must have been stuck on the shelves for a while, it was very dusty, and won't sell with all the newer versions now available. Producer 8, no matter how old it is, is taking my music to another level, just by loading my older HS7 songs in to it, and making very minor adjustments, the difference is unbelievable. I am still trying to find my way round it all, but it is a pleasure to learn... why, because, so far, everything I have tried... works. I will upgrade to the latest version when I have the finance available, like the rest of the world, I am finding things very difficult at the moment, but one thing for sure, I WILL be sticking with Sonar Cakewalk, the company's attitude, the helpfulness of the people on this forum, and last but not least.....it works for me. Take a listen to my music (some recorded on the Boss, some recorded on HS7, one recorded on Producer 8... but nothing recorded on Cubase) www.myspace.com/sunfightermusic add me as a friend if you want. Thanks again guys, it is a real pleasure to be part of the Cakewalk family Trevor (Lost in Time)

I am a PC user stuck forver on Logic Platinum 5.5.1 (with Reason) which I really liked and worked well with, but a new PC purchase and move to Windows 7 prompted me to review what I was working with. I tried the Sonar demo and promptly bought X1 Producer. I mainly track live audio which is working fine. I'm finding it challenging to work with the MIDI side of things in X1 ... might be more lack of understanding/patience than anything else but EZDrummer isn't playing nicely with my setup which is slowing things down. I love the interface.

After finding Sonar's issue with refusing to accept plug-ins as being present when opening projects i've not touched in a version or so (claiming they're missing when they're clearly available to other projects or new projects), seeing how much work i might be losing at the hands of a bad plug-in management system, i may be moving FROM Sonar. i'd been with Cakewalk since Cakewalk Apprentice. In general, i've always found Cakewalk Pro Audio and Sonar to be relatively sensibly laid out and easy to learn, but somewhat ugly and difficult to operate ergonomically (editing automation curves most notably). After spending two years getting familiar with the Mac OS world, i'm finding Sonar is the only thing keeping me on Windows, but with all the lost work Sonar is now causing with my plug-ins (no, it's not ok to tell me to just delete the instance of the plug-in and load a new one, because i lose all my plug-in settings), i'm thinking it's time to switch. i've several times made the mistake of showing loyalty to a product that shows no loyalty to me and i'm done with that line of behavior.

Originally, I used Dr. T's software on an Atari. Later I used Cakewalk on a PC from early windows until about 2006. When I discovered Live, I used it exclusively until very recently. Unfortunately, my projects are getting bigger and bigger and every time I approach the 32-bit memory limit, Live crashes. I recently built a 64-bit system and decided to go back to Cakewalk again. It's quite a bit different from the way I remember, but I still see a lot of old stuff (like CAL hasn't changed much). I like the idea that it is written only for one platform - nothing against MACs per se, they have Logic. That way the developer's can focus on making it work best for that OS. If I had my druthers, though, I get something that ran on Linux - but that will be a long ways away, I think.

I have been using Sonar since it was ProAudio 9, (can't believe I still have that software and its original box), running on windows (old).. I have followed the upgrade path to Sonar 4, then on to Sonar 8.5.3.. I tried the X1, I dunno, for some reason the new interface was daunting, I had a lot of work to get done on my projects and have never found the time (or the patience) to learn how to do my productions in there.. Please don't flame me over that. Eventually, when time permits I'll give it a closer inspection.. I really like Sonar for it's midi capabilities. They are excellent, and I was so happy when some of my ideas, modal masking for the piano roll, was implemented.. You guys are awesome.. that was huge help. Running Sonar 8.5.3 64-bit, on win7Ult-64bit, it's stable, runs very well with my Delta 1010.. System: home built AMD 6-core 16GB memory, ASIO drivers

Just today I was sent the reg info for X1Pro, but can I find a link on the Roland UK or the Roland USA site? No. Please direct me where, i'd like to use X1 Pro over the National Jubilee Holiday this weekend! Listening....... Best regards, PureHeart

I bought Sonar 8 and after a few months I completely was off it, just wasn't for me. Recently tried the trial of X1 and I'm very impressed, seems to improve alot of the problems i had with previous versions. If I could somehow manage to make my AKAI MPK49 keyboard work smoothly with it without troubles then I would definitely upgrade and give Cakewalk another chance. Rhys.

I started out with Cubase at first then bought Sonar 6 (updated to 6.2.1v) Producer edition back in 05...I never upgraded my Sonar, and still use 6.2.1 and absolutely love it..I still have alot I need to learn (as I had only been using the basics)...I also used to get dropouts, until I scrapped my soundcard and started using my E-MU 0404 2.0 USB audio/midi interface. Now I'am not even close to using up resources that would cause a drop out, no matter how many VST's or softsynths I use on a project....A friend of mine started showing me alot of what could be done with sonar (that I had no clues on) before he moved...Glad I found this forum so I can read up on the many things I'm still green on...

Started playing guitar 14 years ago at the age of 13, first recorded at school in the studio they had with my band a year later. Two years ago I got drafted into a band and that's when I got interested in recording my own music thanks to a friend showing me garage band. Went out and bought a line 6 studio pod and Sony's acid studio 8. Using these with a laptop given to me I soon found out acid Studio was ****! Beginning of this year I got a nice some of money and bought myself a new laptop and x1 essentials with out doing my research again so didn't know what to expect from it and may I say I was impressed so with out hesitation I upgraded to X2 studio and although my stuff sounds rough I'm enjoying what I'm doing and starting to get better at it.
