Hi Craig,
Thanks for passing the info on. If there is a string set that works best I will sure appreciate learning about it. I have tried several sets in an attempt to find a gauge that would work best on that low E and I have searched for a string brand with an end wrap that didn't interfere with the saddle when you have the saddle back as far back as it can go.

The sound of those pickups seems really unique and special to me.

I'll let you know when I get a chance to try an EB5. I've never played one of the new Les Paul Melody Makers but they sure look fun and seem like a really great value.  I happen to have a 1967 Melody Maker in the SG body shape that I really enjoy.

 best regards,
mike

Well not to be too much of a cheerleader, but the Melody Maker has new pickups that are totally kickass. Sure, it doesn't have the fancy appointments, Min-ETune, or gold-plated hardware, but the playability definitely marks it as a Les Paul. I've borrowed one to install the Fishman TriplePlay; if it works well, then it would be a great choice for people who want a dedicated MIDI guitar system for under $1K.

Please post a blog on the process Craig, it sounds really cool!

The post is up now in the Cakewalk blog - it's currently the third post down.

Also, there seems to be some confusion about the freebie - just because there's now a bass Expansion Pack with all 8 EB 5-String sounds doesn't mean the freebie has gone away!! You can still download it from the Guitar Month blog post (along with the AdrenaLinn Guitars loops and FX presets).

I think the thing I was most impressed with was the authenticity of the sounds.
it actually sounds like a genuine stringed instrument vs. some of the other sample library's
I have worked with.
