Wouldn't surprise me Mike , as long as it's not exclusively locked only to work with sonar, like other makers have made their hardware.. I dunno why they do it.

Cake are (together with Roland) seem to be releasing a hardware control surface in the very near future at a cheapish price.
This is disappointing as we could all end up buying the upgrade and then may be attracted to the hardware as well - wonder if S8 will be bundled with it?
    'Buy it twice'?
Might be a S8 demo or LE version - who can guess?

True, but they don't have 'Cakewalk' written on them

perhaps we should all play the guessing game like people did with sonar 8 (again) hehe

can't be something that's uber expensive, to appeal to many.

probably has controls to control aspects of sonar , like the transport etc (much like yamaha have done with their new thing for cubase)

Or in my case all my versions of TTS-1 (I own PA6 thru SONAR 7). Even when I get SONAR 8, and since I already own Dim Pro, I'll have more 700 Billion copies of TTS-1.

I'll need a carrying case for all that and a Mic cable too!

I had to ditch my Edirol (aka Roland/Cakewalk) PCR-80 MIDI controller after keys started dying left and right. It had least three dead keys, and a few more with screwy velocity sensors that were on their way to dying. It was fine until about two years after I bought it, then it deteriorated rapidly. I wouldn't trust keyboard hardware from Edirol, unless they can assure me they have changed the design to fix this problem and have done stress testing to prove it. In the mean time I invested in a nice Novation MIDI controller, which unfortunatly doesn't integrate well with Sonar.

Well judging by that cover I can see a couple of buttons there. And it has a screw on the side, so that means the interface might be - modular?

    What I'm hoping for :

Control surface + built in synth (a cut down Roland V-Synth GT please !) + something like a Korg Kaoss pad

Surely it has to be more than just a control surface - Cakewalk has been singing the praises of ACT for a few years now, so it can't be just a control surface surely ???

For those of us who can't read 4pt fonts:

While Cakewalk kindly introduced us to its incredible Sonar update we also got a peak at something quite specia - and it's most certainly not software.
We'll be going hands-on with this major (and pleasingly large) piece of studio hardware from Cakewalk at the upcoming AES show and so will reserve full (gushing) verdict until next isue (on sale 31st October).
What we can say from our time with the machine is that it's an amazing package for an unbelievable price tag, being the biggest announcement since the Cakewalk and Roland partnership began. If you're a Sonar user then this is a must buy.
Remember you saw it here in Future Music first and check the mag next month for lots more.

If its a control surface, it kicks Cubase/Lodg-ick in the teeth, if its a Synth, Reason gets a bloody nose, if it has A/D in it Pro Fools ship is sunk, if its all three, I'll pee my pants.

Mike (mont) I'm guessing it's something like
    http://www.dv247.com/invt/57061/

again, who knows.. there is a video on the makers of that specific device on their main website.. Since I use the program relating to that and sonar.. I try to get things that are universal, much like my kore 2 kontroller and nocturn are. (I use the noturn as I'd rather not move the kontroller around a lot)

    Steve, Steve, steve......

This device (if one) needs to exceed or eliminate the need of my MCU and Nocturn before I will even consider it. I do hope for that.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Core i7 920, Asus p6td deluxe, Sonar X1c PE, Motu 2408 mk3, Apogee Mini DAC, 3x UAD-1, Digimax FS, Motu Microlite, MCU, Tranzport, Nocturn. And more...

if its anything like previous Cakewalk hardware products it'll be rebadged edirol/roland gear a la power studio.
Maybe its a version of the "motion dive tokyo" controller.
Or now that I have surfed the Roland US website I vote that its a MV8800 with sonar on it.

This should be a slam-dunk for Roland and Cakewalk. The SI-24 was/is a great control surface but in usual Roland fashion they let it die before finishing the job. Hopefully when it comes to Cakewalk/Roland products those days are over. Roland has some great ideas and products but sometimes they kill them too quickly if they don't catch on right away.
