How do you feel about how the MS Ribbon concept was implemented in SONAR X1?

Yes, you can use them for any key-bindings that are possible in Sonar.

By default the numbers on the mouse simply act as the numbers on the keyboard, but you can assign them to act as any keys you like.

The trouble with creating your own key-bindings in Sonar, though, is that there are lots of key-bindings that aren't listed anywhere (that I know of), neither in the manual or under preferences, so you don't really know which key-bindings that are free and which ones are taken for something else. Maybe someone should talk to Cakewalk about that, but I guess they have more important things on their minds right now.

I simply decided to use the number-keys as shortcuts for note-values instead of screensets since I don't use screensets anyway.

Yo PedalPoint

Any notable improvements/fixes in the SX staff view compared to 8.5.3.?

Do you have the mouse number buttons set sequencially for note values?  1- whole, 2 half, 3 qtr, ???   dotted?

Have to remapped F5 and F6 back to the S and D  keys?

Etc...

I couldn't tell you much about the staff-view because I rarely use it. I'm more of a piano-roll guy. If I need notation I go to Sibelius. Not that I wouldn't think it totally awesome if Cake suddenly decided to upgrade their staff-view into something descent, though, then I might start using it, but what are the chances of that happening?

To select note-values I use the 1, 2, 3 and 7, 8, 9 buttons on my razer naga mouse because these are the ones that are most easily accessible to my thumb.

1 – whole note
2 – 1/2 note
3 – 1/4 note
7 – 1/8 note
8 – 1/16 note
9 – 1/32 note

For dotted durations I hold down the shift key and for triplets I hold down Ctrl. To set the snap settings I hold Alt. So for example to change the snap value to 1/4-triplets becomes Ctrl+Alt+3.

I haven't done anything with the new key-bindings for the different tools after they moved them up to the F-keys. I used the old key-bindings in 8.5, but after X1 I have just selected tools by pressing the middle mouse button. This method is of course a little inefficient, but I haven't really grown accustomed to the new tools, so I haven't yet figured out how do work most efficiently with them. Maybe it's just me, but I seem to remember that the old tools were more customizable.

Hey cool!  Hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
Maybe I have started a new trend among Sonar-users.  If so I think Razer should give me some of their profit.

Man, it's awesome. Picked it up at best buy and just got done doing my keybindings! It's going to really speed up my workflow.  Thanks again for posting about it. Thumbs up my friend.

I have a 18 button double-clickable "WarMouse" here.  I've mapped Sonar fuctions on it to mirror my mouse button maps in Sibelius. http://warmouse.com/
