Zzakly true! Seen this on TV before. Made me realize we're not such good lip readers when we're tryin' ta listen at the same time.

"Read my lips! More new taxes!" And ye'all thought he said "No new taxes!" cause it's what ye'all wanted ta hear.

Then there's the odd affect WHITE has on the brain... watch this -->http://www.youtube.com/wa...v=Yo4WF3cSd9Q&NR=1

Of course, white is not a color and so remains musically neutral.

First door on the right, twisted. Don't be gone too long, you might miss something.

For future reference, just remember the Fogerty lyric: "there's the bathroom on the right" (Bad Moon Rising).

The very fact that in the case of the McGurk effect:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-lN8vWm3m0

For example we are hearing different transients based on what we see. Colour and what Bob Katz says about the beige concept could be well good.

It is simple though, all you have to do is close your eyes at some point while you are listening to a mix and you are removing all visual input.

In the 70's when I was really into Hi Fi at the time I was hanging out with a group of perfectionists. One thing that listening to whole sides of records (and of course this is not happening now much) is that you had to sit down in a comfortable spot for say 20 minutes. This often put you into a semi state and of course we all closed out eyes during critical listening tests as well as the longer listening sessions.  This thread made me think of the long listening sessions we had and with our eyes shut.

It is good to push your monitor right back if you can on an articulated arm right back behind your speakers (reduces reflections and comb filtering effects) and close your eyes to check important mix stuff. Even looking at your DAW playing back may influence what you hear. After tricky edits I always close my eyes and listen over edited sections. In most cases any edits are not heard at all. But if you look at your DAW I swear you can hear your edits.

Agree!

Yep yep yep !!

On a more serious side :

Well , guyz , as you all know , we're mixing and taking decisions on what we hear and PERCIEVE ..and what we percieve is the IMAGING ......the imaging is the visual represention of sound in space  our mind makes !!!

So every solicitation of our mind have an impact on it ....and so an impact of what's our mind is doing : Imaging !!

So noise (wife !!) , visual (that's why designing the studio is crucial not only on the acoustic side), the "posture" (the way you sit , position of work ect) , light ....even temperature have in impact .....

i went from this :

To that :

And this was a big impact on my work ....workflow and so , on the quality of my work (production , mixing ect ..)
