Before it does get locked I think one thing that Cake needs to be careful of is devalueing the software. I think they are in a reputation upswing at the moment and I think that LRR's scheme might give folks the wrong impression about Sonar especially considering some of the stereotypes associated with the product from the past.

As lame as it is people really do associate cost with quality so if you bring it down to almost being freeware then it can actually have a detrimental effect. Believe me I would LOVE to have the scheme LRR is talking about or for Cake to implement what denverdrummer was referring to because I'm broke but it may not be the greatest marketing ploy and could potentially wreck the profit margins (which means less money goes toward development at a crucial time).

I hate to think of myself as one to subscribe to such silliness as the "you get what you pay for" premise because I should bloody well know better after years of being in the freecycling phenomena and being able to always do what I need to just by sheer scrounging thriftiness but honestly... when I was looking at DAWs a few years back I KNEW the "cheap" DAW was quality. I had been told many times it was quality by actual studio pros... BUT I just could not wrap my head around it being fully professional. Now that I've used it I know that was dumb.

That was a lucky error though because I ended up with Sonar and in the long run even if I had just gotten the "cheap" DAW to get all the extra tools I needed to compliment it I would have spent at least as much (and probably WAY more) to get the same functionality out of it as I have in Sonar.

Also I would not have joined this forum and learned all the skills I've acquired since.

Anyway... I just think that it is something to be careful of from a marketing standpoint especially in our current society's hyper capitalist mindset. Sure us old punks, hippies and all around humanists are into a corporate love in but many folks unfortunately equate $$$ with quality. Cake is really already skirting a fine line in that regard.

Just my (probably whacko weirdo) thoughts on it.

Bottom line is the membership program is not designed for incremental payments or a la carte program updates.

And that's the most confusing part.  A loan is paid in incremental payments like a monthly payment plan toward ownership...

Before the thread gets locked...technically Cakewalk does do incremental payments, but they're consecutive and last for a defined period of time. This is very different from treating each payment as a separate entity rather than as part of a continuum.

Hi Craig, you do realize that you typed "...the membership program is not designed for incremental payments..."

Karyn is surely going to lock this up.  There is the fear that false information will be spread around the internet.  Can't let that happen.

Kind regards,

that over reacted to membership, or just flat out put out false information about it,

That is the issue we were trying to quash,  false information.   Many, if not most, of the over-reactions were due to the false information.

Can we consider this thread done and finished with now before any further false information is inadvertently spread around the internet?

Nuke it Karyn. :)

P.S. On another note, I am disappointed in my fellow members on this forum.  These attacks on me are unwarranted and should be individually addressed by the monitors, as expected.  Okay, I got that off my chest.

Living Room Rocker, I sure hope my talking about Knuckleheads wasn't taken as talking about you. I have no problem at all when a member in good standing is trying to work some things out or get some questions answered. Truthfully I kind of tune the whole discussion out cuz I didn't have any answers and it seemed like you a few others were able to handle it. I always considered you one of the good guys and still do. My whole issue in this thread was people who have not been here before , coming in asking a few odd questions and not even waiting around to get an answer. I'm sure you will get your concern answered. If I could add anything to help, I would be glad to do that.

Should not call people names to belittle them further...it hurts the spirit of peace...and insights much ponderings to cause us to assume that is intended for all whom have issues with...Money...., and reflect on in shame....surely some as another poster said...we buy to help others have the means to make their dreams recorded for free...because they cannot afford a cup of soup...let alone a pad to have rest in....Yah...so when names are carelessly thrown around forum town...about cost, and complaints...we all have a cross to say,,,keep it in peace, luv, and respect of all...giving aid to whom we can, for the greater good to prevail over our selves, and our neighbours....otherwise it instigates perceptions of who those names insult....and they will not be silenced until sorry is put forth...be good, with great respect, no matter what...and the glory stays in peace!...so does the forum!

Thanks, Leslie.  I am not aware of your post, so I can't say it offended me.  I do appreciate your encouragement.  My response to this thread was only to get a definition from members regarding the negative labels since my concerns were not address in other threads with the exception of Beepster within one of those threads.  So, I felt that I may have been put in that category.  It's unfortunate that I had to break it all down and all the "strong" (to put it nicely) responses resulted, most of which I did not consider meaningful.  I tried to avoid that but Beep opened that box in this thread, but I don't hold him to it.  So, now, but for a few who expressed support, I was getting ganged up on as well as being threatened by a monitor who will go unnamed.  I still believe that my suggestion has merit and I hope Cakewalk will consider it in some form or another (like IK multimedia and Universal Audio).  I didn't say that I disagree with the membership plan or that SONAR was not worth it.  I did question the value based on CW history.  I was merely pointing something which might in fact address some of those legitimate concerns with the monthly "payments" or whatever they want to call it today.  In all humility, I don't think of myself as a "knucklehead" nor do I deserve some of those posts directed toward me.  At the risk of sounding even more self centered and alienating myself further, my intent was not about me as a CW customer, but considering those who may be.  Nonetheless, I do appreciate your sincerity and would like to return your kindness with anything I can help you with within the forums (he he).

Kind regards,

Time to say goodnight. Let's all go make some music, OK?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
