I use the track view for tracking and the console view for final mix all the time. I'd be lost without the console view.

Track view with Inspector for tracking and editing, then console for mixing using the D key for any quick edits that may come up. I usually have the track view on one monitor and fx, vst etc on the second during tracking/ edits. I expand the console view across both monitors for mixing for easier viewing of the busses. Probably a holdover from mixing on hardware consoles. Just my preference though. Whatever works is right for that person.

benjaminfrog I rarely use Console View, preferring Track View like yourself. Additionally, although I've tried to warm up to the Pro Channel, I've never been able to. I dislike the small GUIs and the inability to move the modules around the screen independently. Call me old fashioned, but I still much prefer VSTs in the FX bin... er, rack.
Even if you never use the effect modules in the ProChannel, I think it's still worth using it purely for the FX Chains. You can see far more of the chain than you can in the FX Bins which are incredibly small and cramped. If you insert multiple FX Chain modules you can see 20+ effects all as one long chain, if you need to. And of course since you're loading your own VST's into the FX Chains there is no problem with small GUI's. Personally I use the track view and the console view together, each has its own purpose. For instance when I'm arranging in the track view, I use the mute and solo buttons there because they're physically connected to the tracks I'm working with in that view. However if I want to balance a lot of instruments against each other, making constant tweaks to a group, nothing beats the console view. It's also essential if for example you want to drag effects from one track's ProChannel to another.

Anderton I never used Console View. Then I discovered the magic "D" shortcut so I could go instantly between track view and console view. For me recording is tracking - editing - mixing. I use track view for the first two, and mostly console view for mixing (with the D option so I can scurry back to track view for a quick edit if needed).
I found out 5 will give you console view. If anyone has ever messed with Traktion is doesn't have one at all.

I use Console View only if I need to find all tracks where I use some plugin, or something like that, involving plugins or routing, and many tracks simultaneously, some technical application or fixing. For other tasks CV is unusable for me. One of the reasons is that I rely on folders for structuring my projects, often I even don't name my tracks, only folders, and it make it impossible to find tracks in CV without folders in it.

I definitely use it. - you can open and close all Pro Channel strips at once by ctrl+clicking - You can monitor the PC clip indicator on lots of tracks at once, including busses and output - You can access the wave form view of one track when you use the partial view and put one track at the top of the screen. - The Concrete Limiter only shows the max limiting measure when it's in view during playback. Other effects work similarly giving feedback only when visible. - When things are side-chained... say a kick sent to compressor on a pad or a bass... you can see that the compressor triggers with the kick hit. It's not the best view for working with envelopes or entering midi data. :-) But for me having the channel strip opened side by side with the Pro Channel has obvious value. No need for ctrl+i to switch between strip views like in Track View. Console View is my preferred view when sending sound to monitors so the singers can hear themselves.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I always use the console view. It's on my left monitor, the rest is on my right. I think it is good way of getting an overview of the different channels volume, effects and send.

You don't need to use console view, as it mostly duplicates what's in track view. I used only track view until the X-series. Now I split my time between track view and console view, courtesy of the "D" keyboard shortcut. Console view puts me in a space that's more conducive to mixing. I find Track View more conducive to tracking and editing. However I also like that you can access a console-like view with Track View thanks to the Inspector. One of SONAR's big strengths is that it offers so many ways to do similar tasks, which means you can choose what's most comfortable for you. However, I do recommend "forcing" yourself to use some features for a certain period of time so you know their strengths and limitations, as that can help in choosing the right tool for the right job.

For many years, I rarely used the Console View as most of my workflow was laying down tracks, working with clips and manipulating automation on a track-by-track basis. When I started using Sonar as the "mixing console" for live venues, I started using the Console View regularly. It was then I discovered that I could use the Console View to much more effectively perform some tasks that I was previously doing using only the Track View. As a result, I currently use the Console View as a regular part of my normal workflow. Paul

For me, it's about spending the last 25 years mixing live shows on a real console. Mixing in Sonar with the console view just feels at home to me. Recording and editing are done in track view, of course. Way easier there.

When the day comes that my VS-700 studio no longer works, I *may* consider a big almost-horizontal multi-touch monitor for the Console view and a second monitor for all the stuff I do in Sonar today. I would have to be convinced that the ergonomics were right, though. Small things like scaling and wrist-rests make a big difference.

Yep, same here. Track view is open on a 22" monitor just off to the left of my laptop, and Console view stays open on the laptop's 17" monitor. If I need to access the Windows desktop etc., I just minimize the Console view. On the Track view I primarily edit and create automation envelopes etc. Mixing is all done in Console view. That just seemed the most comfortable and natural way to work.

Hey it's ok horses for courses and so on. I never use the Matrix or even screen sets all I have is track view on one monitor and console or step sequencer on the other. Cos i use busses a lot the console view makes sense. Also adjusting levels within multi out synths like Kontakt I just find easier in console view. I guess as more people use the new routing options this will be less important.
