I have noticed that when you do have a touch device like a tablet you tend to acquire muscle memory and often want to touch when touch is unavailable. I think this will accelerate the move to touch when touch monitors are competitive with non touch monitors.       

You can also rename multiple clips at once with the Inspector. 

Yeah, perhaps Cakewalk's next flagship product (labeled something other than Sonar so that it doesn't fall under the lifetime updates umbrella) will add back some of the functionality they took away.

I like the inspector in general, but would like a faster method for renaming a clip. I'll admit that renaming clips frequently in SPLAT can be a little tedious for me.

So I have a suggestion that fits the Windows paradigm. How about these new steps:

- select clip (or clips)
- press F2 to open dialog box
(appearing next to cursor with text highlighted/selected)
- rename clip(s)
- press enter/return

Seems a bit odd

Just went back to Splat & sure enough you can do it there too. Don't see it in X1, 2, or 3.
 
A better way would be to just double-click the clip name itself, making it edit-ready, then simply type the new name.

The rename option being available only during play was a bug - its been fixed for the next release.
Also I changed it so that for new users by default double click will open the clip inspector for audio clips rather than the loop construction view. (this is a preference in the track view options / click behavior)

By "fixed" I hope you mean it can now be done while stopped too....

So - overall, what is the value of clip naming? Is this an OCD fix? - or does this naming extend to raw file naming for file storage? I never really felt a need to identify specific clips as I tent to bounce to clips quite often to condense file overhead.

True, it would be VERY nice if bouncing a clip RETAINED it's name so we're not constantly renaming it.

It's critical sometimes in certain comping situations. I might want to cut up a track and rearrange it in different order and want to name the different clips I've created Intro A, Fill A, Fill B, Fill C, etc. so as not to lose track of them. Not all my projects happen in the same session where I can keep all of the pieces in my head.
 
I've also had situations where audio has been imported and then the song name has changed, and you might consider it "OCD" to rename the clips, but it can prevent confusion that saves time and accidents, so the easier it is to do it, the better.
