The SONARPDR.exe process still hangs around for several minutes after closing Sonar.
FWIW, I've tried loading numerous different projects... and can't reproducer this behavior.
Sonarpdr.exe is gone within a second or two here.

I suspect one of a couple of things.
  • MIDI driver - As a test, disable your MIDI ports and see if the Sonarpdr.exe still takes a long time to close?
  • Bridged 32Bit plugins - Remove all 32Bit plugins from said project.  For that matter, also try loading an audio only project (no virtual instruments) with only native x64 plugins.
I suspect that you are right. It never ever happens when I use only native x64 plugs and it usually does happen after a project containing x32 plugs crashes on start up. I doubt that it's the midi ports although when the start up crashes do occur the automated fader on my FaderPort starts giggling and won't stop.
It's doing it to me in Sonar x86 and x64 so personally can rule Bitbridge out.

I'm shutting down and getting away from my DAW for a while. Maybe letting it sit and a hard reboot will remedy the hiccups I've run in to so far.

UPDATE: Correcting myself here. After a hard reboot (complete shutdown, power off for at least 3 minutes) this is not a problem anymore.

What happens if you load Nexus in the 32Bit version of Sonar?
If it runs without issue, I'd talk to the developer of jBridge.

Sadly I'm starting to a get a little nervous about Sonar X1. I've been keeping my eye on the progress of X1 for quite some time. I heard about the Quick-fix program and that encouraged me. Then I heard about X1C and while I originally wanted to wait and see what fixes were in store, I got impatient, took a bit of a leap of faith and purchased X1 Producer.

The good news is that I haven't run into any show stopping issues. :)

However, some of the quirky bugs and intermittent issues I have run into just make me nervous is all.. Due in part to how long some of these bugs have been around.

Anyway, I know all software has bugs.. Again, I am encouraged by the quick-fix program and the fact that they didn't just move on to X2. I like the Cakewalk team and how they interact with those on the forums. They seem like cool people who do care.

I feel like Cakewalk is on the right track and that X1C is definitely progress. I just really hope that the devs are fully committed to rolling out quick-fixes in a consistent manner. If they are, then I will put my mind at ease.

Been running nexus in X1 x64 via BitBridge since X1 first released.
I suffer no drop outs at all.

Well, I haven't read all the posts.. yet

But I am impressed. The individual snap is awesome!!!!!!!!! this new update just feels right. Can't really pin point much. Started making a new track while checking out the update tonight and I'm going to hate my self for staying up so late tomorrow! Anyway, opened up a few huge projects and it loaded and closed nicely, everything played back nicely and it seems to be working great. I'll be working on a massive album project with a high tech metal band the coming weeks, sporting around 100+ tracks with loads of Audio and Instrument tracks. I'm really looking forward to see how X1c performs during this. Right now I am seriously excited!

BTW, exporting and saving seems to be going so much more smoothly now as well.

Bub

20 seconds in to installing X1C ...

#1: Got a fatal error installing the x64 version and my PC tried to force me to reboot. Got a message saying "Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0xC000142. C:Programs (yadda yadda yadda)\GroovePlayer.dll." I clicked "Retry" and the installation continued, but is it corrupt now? Only way to find out for sure is to do a system restore and start fresh again.

#2: Projects take 3 times longer to load now in x86 and x64. Is it related to the crash with the DLL/OCX failure? I don't know. I have to do a system restore now to find out.

#3: Sonar hangs for several minutes in memory now when I close it.

Not off to a very good start with X1C.
UPDATE: After a hard reboot (shutting completely down and turning the power off for at least 3 minutes), X1C is no longer hanging on exit and projects are actually loading a LOT faster like John (not John T) had mentioned in another thread. Also, the problem I was having with my Tool Bar turning gray with Auto-Save enabled does not seem to be happening now but I need to test it more. Sorry, had to take it back, Tool Bar is still turning gray with Auto-Save on.

My Recommendation: After updating to X1C ... do a hard reboot.

Working pretty good for me so far, I love all the new features, and the step sequencer is great :)

One thing I noticed is that I have my caps locks key set up to disable the grid in the piano roll so that I can get precise note lengths, but when I click caps to disable it, the grid changes in the piano roll to whatever I have on the main snap settings and doesn't stay to the snap settings I have selected in the piano roll.  So I would like to have the main track view use whole notes and the piano roll to have a 1/16th grid, but when I disable snap the grid jumps to whole notes instead of 16th notes.  Maybe there is someway to set the hotkey up to disable the piano roll snap somehow...Anyways, minor inconvenience.

Also, noticed the sonarpdr.exe thing is still hanging around in my task manager preventing me from relaunching the program without a restart.

Just got a project in for remixing with (gulp) 82 tracks, which is WAY more than what I normally use...so X1c is going to be getting quite the stress test compared to normal in the next couple weeks.

Well they definitely didn't fix "my bug"... even though I reported it months ago and they confirmed it. Oh well, I'm sure it will get fixed eventually but it was at the top of my list. Just an envelope drawing error.

Yeah, the little bugs can take their toll, especially when you run into them regularly. So far (with X1B 255) I've had a couple pro channel knob response issues, plugin layout persist issues, disappearing control bar, graphic glitches from selecting/deselecting console modules, one plugin decided to disappear, had to rescan, a couple picture cache corruptions, occasional audio engine freak outs where the channel clips and the meters freeze..

With X1C I'm still having the plugin layout persist issues.. Not a huge bug but I'm just confused because in the notes it says this is fixed.. Same goes for the disappearing control bar.. Apparently that was supposed to be fixed in X1b but it still remains..  It's these smaller issues that seem to go unfixed that make me nervous.. But owell..

Cheers to the thread we've all been waiting to be in.

Finally hit the sack at 6 am but left X1c running playing a continuous loop of some tracks that went for about 4 hours while I had a kip and got up and ran a few errands.

I was doing some other work that required a reboot this arvo but I started X1c again and it's still running now. A continuous loop of some tracks with quote a few fx  and VSTi's and lot's of samples.

I haven't been looking at the little things but checking for stability. at this stage I've had nothing upset my littlle boat.
It sure seems fast. fast to load projects, fast to scan plugins, fast to render audio. Probably just my imagination though.

Tomorrow start testing for the little activities that go together to make what we call worlflow.

have to sleep tonight.

I'd talk to the developer of jBridge.
First play around with the settings in jbridge. That can definitely help.

Everything working here ok. Quick fixes were great but I just hope they roll any future ones up into X1d. I've got  clean X1 install backed up ready and waiting ... like I did for X1c.

I have had some annoying issues with X1B but I'm happy to say that so far things are going fine with X1C. There are a few minor bugs that I was hoping would be squashed but they're pretty easy to work around. (Just please Cakewalk, Keep the quickfixes coming.. That's all I ask.)

Anyway, Thank you Cakewalk team. I'm gonna go make some music now.

I haven't had too much time to play around with it, but X1C definitely feels a lot snappier than previous X1s, which is nice.

However, I'm pretty disappointed that they left the "gray out prochannel when freezing" change in. I still maintain this was a pretty poorly thought out "fix" which ends up being a real workflow killer. I have to use "bounce to tracks" on synths before mixing them -- a real blast from the past! :/

But other than that design issue the quality control on this release seems pretty solid. Can't wait to test it out more!

At least they kept the feature that lets you make your envelopes travel backwards in time!

Honestly I can't wait for the marketing text for X2 -- "New features: Cutting and pasting envelopes no longer creates a corrupted mess!" :P

This and several other problems inherited from version 8 and earlier seem to still persist (matrix view dropping midi notes, various display & other issues with complex tempo maps). I don't get it -- are these features just not considered important? I know it didn't mention any of them in the X1C release notes, but a small part of me was hoping some entrepreneurial engineer snuck a few fixes in there without telling anyone ;)  (Yes I've problem-reportered all of these. Several times actually).

A trouble free and quick download, plus a painless install. I'm having a great time with Sonar X1. The bus select feature  was overdue, glad to have it back. No problems to report as yet.

Please listen to my band's new (post-prog rock?!) songs at www.reclaimmusic.com all produced using sonar X1!!

Hmm... it's obviously not meant to be able to do that. Under normal circumstances, it won't allow you to move one node to before a previous node. It's definitely a bug.

...hope you went to bed Mike.

Also download was quite quick this morning. Keen to install and see if any of the old 8.5 projects play any better under X1C. Anyone had any success with that?

Good to see that you are getting some sleep..sleep is good on occasion..good to see that it seems to be stable there..

I'd like to hear what transpires on your set up regarding the Pro Channel stuff and how that works out with some of those issues that you had....
