hey Meng, i have a question

what about the Steam version of Sonar (or TDFKAS, i suppose :P)? i'm guessing Steam users were a rather small portion of Sonar users, but it would be nice to be able to continue to use "whatever-comes-next" on Steam still ... honestly - i don't even care about lifetime passes all that much ... but i do care about having the new one on Steam (i mean, obviously ... if i didn't, i would've bought it somewhere else, and probably much cheaper too) - even just for the easy update process alone (... and having all the addons as DLC etc. etc.)

no to mention other stuff like z3ta, all the plugins and loops that were being sold as DLC for Sonar etc.

it's bad enough image-line went through Steam Greenlight (and got accepted) back in the day and then proceeded to completely ignore steam because "we'll put it on steam when the sales slow down" (i'm paraphrasing but that's basically what their argumentation was) ... i need at least one DAW on steam, goddammit! ;)

with all that being said - the Steam version did have almost 10,000 users and i do realize that's probably not that many, but it would be nice of you guys to not just tell all of those people (myself included) to go somewhere else (as in - download some other client or something for the new one) from now on

thanks in advance for the reply

Before that happens though, as part of the preparation for product relaunch we’ll be sending everyone who previously registered a Cakewalk account a request to sign up for a BandLab accountIt’s free, it’s secure and it doesn’t mean you are obliged to use BandLab's social music platform features (although there are plenty of good collaboration options and other features in there  - you can read more about them here).

Signing up for a new legacy Cakewalk account is no longer available and for those who have accounts, the reason for this is that we will be tagging your Cakewalk ID to your new BandLab account as we migrate databases and wind down the legacy server. Starting very soon, your BandLab account will be what you use to authenticate and activate TDFKAS and replaces the old Cakewalk account. As part of feature development, it will also bring more features and services to your Cakewalk experience in the future should you choose to use them.

We decided to do it this way (opt-in) instead of auto-creating an account for everyone because we didn't want to force a new user account on anyone - we apologise that it's a little bit extra work but we hope that you understand! It's important to note that in order to ensure you get the right upgrade or crossgrades in future, you'll need to sign up for BandLab with the same email you used for your Cakewalk products.

First, thank you very much for the 21/03/2018 update. I see this as good news.

Second, I had used my Facebook related email when I signed onto BandLab earlier. I've updated to the proper email I associate with my Cakewalk products.

I just went to verify my email used for cakewalk before setting up a Bandlab account.   I must have used my gmail account when I set up the forum profile.  I tried to change it to my verizon account, (that I use way more), and it said that it was already used with another account and can't be updated.  I know I got occasional emails from cakewalk to my verizon account.
I wonder why this is happening.  Any ideas?

You probably set up the account under both at some point. I had to contact support a while back to consolidate to one email. I set up my account way back when I had a different ISP and thus a different email address. That ISP closed rather suddenly and I was left with a lot of accounts out there I couldn't change (like MySpace - it was that long ago) because they would send an email to the old address to ask for verification for the changes. I got Cakewalk Support to fix my account to use the new email address. (MySpace Support wasn't helpful at all in this).

Ditto. Is there somewhere in my BandLab settings that confirms this link with Sonar?  I used the same email for both but not the same user name. I just want to be sure things are locked and loaded for when blast off occurs!

Regarding the update of 21/3/2018:
I'm a Cakewalk active user and I already had a BandLab account, but with a different email address. Now I've updated my BandLab email to the same I have in Cakewalk. I hope everything will flow ok, but I clear this just in case. I'm sure to be not the only one with this particular case.
Thanks.

Great news. I am looking forward to a new beginning. I can't wait since it should be soon. I looked at other DAW products and it just seems daunting to switch after investing so much time and energy in Sonar. I am glad we have a lifeline.

TDFKAS is one thing.
But what is going to happened with Sonar (and other Cakewalk products) authorization after the change?
I mean Sonar 2015+, RapturePro, CA-2A, Z3TA2 (latest update), all use on-line authorization.

I'm still not able to confirm my e-mail on BandLab, hopefully this won't be a problem moving forward.
(I never received a e-mail with a verification link when joining BandLab, and nothing happens when I click the "Resend confirmation email" link in the app. Apart from that everything works fine).

Check you entered your email address correctly.. (stupid suggestion I know...  but.. well...)
The email they send to you has a "no_reply" address,  check that your ISP or your own spam filter isn't blocking it..

Their system is working, I just did this procedure myself and it took seconds.

I just got the invite to Bandland today.  I did sign up for an account.  I must have been under a rock as this is the first I've heard of Cakewalk being sold.

I'm not sure how I feel about it.  I recently went back to Sonar 8.5 from X1 and am loving it.  I will wait and see.

Kind off.

If you read the email, they have said they will be running down the Cakewalk servers and transferring and linking our old Cakewalk accounts with our Bandlab accounts.

AFAICT, yes. Basically, it seems the servers will go down at some point in the near future, and the only way to access your account will be through BandLab credentials.

My concern for this announcement is that it was made as an opt-in feature vice automatic database migration, especially since we have had issues in the past with email distributions. Since all products affected are also available through CCC, a simple update to that program would accommodate people more efficiently. The CCC application can tap into whatever database it is scripted to using more than one set of credentials (numerous apps allow Facebook, LinkedIn, local, etc.). If this forum also moves as announced, there is going to be a subset of owners left out in the cold from this, especially if the opt in period has an endpoint (i.e., Cakewalk customers roll off into non-customers).

Does this opt-in period have an end point with the understanding that many customers 1) do not read the forums regularly, 2) could easily miss a one-off email, and 3) may not even think about their old Cakewalk account until a year from today?

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

It seems like it would be more straightforward to simply something like “if you want to authorize your old SONAR license you need to sign up with our social media website”. I am not especially interested in the TSFKAS but would like to keep my SONAR running.

Not sure if anyone can help me with this but here goes. I received the email from BandLab saying I should sign up with my original email, my problem is I am switching internet providers tomorrow and will have a new email address. I'm not sure if this will affect any emails I would need to get from Bandlab or anything else for that matter. I would have preferred to be able to change to my new email address now within sonar, but they are saying we must use the original email address.
