Mack,
Agreed...Just read the latest information on the SONAR "Gloucester" Windows 10 update in the eZine.pdf (put it on this morning) which has some benchmarks on the performance of Sonar Windows 8.1 vs Windows 10. From all accounts what we are seeing as far as increases in stability, latency and software response from our rigs is consistent with the testing....

I now have everything back and loaded on my system... and for good measure at the end, uninstalled my 700 drivers and re-installed them again just to see if there would be any new conflicts.  No problems so far.

Thanks for doing that, Dur.  And thanks for consolidating all our steps into a single post.  Much appreciated!

Roland doesn't have much excuse for not providing official support for the VS products, based one what we were able to hack together.  At this point it would be just terribly bad PR for them, not to get new drivers out.

Re: v700 and Windows 10 2015/08/03 02:56:40 (permalink)
Not sure if anyone else hit this, but when I tried doing the F7 to boot Windows 10 with signatures disabled, for my case, it made windows 10 unstable and while I could get to the login prompt and start Win10, once it got to the main screen, I couldn't use file manager, not even the start button.  So in my case, I'm guessing there is some leftover other driver from my Win 7 setup (I did an upgrade, not a clean install) that is unsigned that is giving Win 10 grief.

Anyway, just posting this in case anyone else hits this.

Hopefully Roland does post new drivers for the VS100 (what I have) and the VS700 that are Windows 10 compliant as I really like what I see otherwise in Windows 10.

Roland's response yesterday to my message I sent about our thread:

Thank you for the information. We will forward this to the appropriate department for them to review.
Thanks again,
Roland Product Support

Here's the message to Roland that I sent:
No question but did want to report a solution to the legacy VS 700 Windows 10 installer. We, over at the Sonar Cakewalk Hardware Forum, under the thread "v700 and Windows 10" have found a mod to the rdif1089.inf that makes it possible to force the installer to now work ... so far the driver has been stable. That being said we did have to disable the driver-signatures to get the mod to work.
Hope this helps your tech folks in getting a Roland installer/driver out to the many VS 700 folks who love their rigs but also want to take advantage of the Windows 10 improvements for SONAR.
Thanks!
Dur

Pretty non-committal stuff from them there, which I suppose is all they can do in the customer service department.

Thanks to MackTheKnight the help and dustriplin for reposting not only the instructions but also giving us an update on your success! I do have one question as I too have attempted the file change but after I had installed Windows 10 and it worked for a bit but then stopped working.i am assuming I may have something wrong so i am going to attempt it again. but my question here is does it matter whether I have already updated to Windows 10 or not?

Thanks in advance and i will keep the thread updated on my progress.

The fix worked with just the 700C driver, but the fix didn't work on my Roland Fantom XR driver (rack version of the Fantom X)... but, still working on it.

So, I have the noobiest of the noobie equipment, the VS-20, and I was wondering if you guys think I can follow these steps to get this one to work. I'm willing to test it myself, obviously, I'm just not quite as familiar with editing driver files as some of you guys, so I don't know if the values I'm changing are the same. Also, do I have to roll back to 8.1 and install first, or can  I just edit the RDIF1106 file in the 64bit/files folder within the driver directory and then use the x64 installer?

No rolling back, but you do want to uninstall the current driver if it's there but not working.

My steps, coming from Windows 7 were:
1/ uninstall driver
2/ upgrade to w10
3/ install driver as described at start of thread.

Tried installing my VS-100 on this computer as a test and during the install, I got to the point where you plug it in but it didn't do anything. I had to cancel out the install and it uninstalled it. Now when I try to install the driver again, I get this:

This is what I pasted in the code. I simply replaced the 700 with 100:

I did an uninstall through the control panel (it was listed as VS-20 Driver or something like that). Then I downloaded fresh drivers through the support page and edited the RDIF1106 file (it'll be different for the VS-100 but should look similar), and made the changes that dustriplin suggested, then installed.

If you mean for uninstalling, it should be visible in the "uninstall a program" link in Control Panel.

Without wishing to patronise anyone, I'm going to throw in a reminder of a point from earlier in the thread: if you don't know what we're all talking about here, in terms of drivers and INF files and driver signing and all the rest of it, this might not be a good thing to get bogged down in.

You can end up in a world of pain with this stuff very easily. I'm not saying you're not all smart, because I know you all are, and I'm not saying this is rocket science, because it's not. But do tread carefully. Certainly do not skim read the instructions in the opening post. Either follow them exactly, or don't do it at all, is my advice.

I meant the actual drivers. I'm going to have to manually remove them. I don't think that is what is causing the error though so I may be SOL on that one. Might just be the installer itself is buggered. I will give it another go tomorrow with a fresh copy.
