Nothing special, I followed the instructions as I noticed here : http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3346637

I used the modification from dustriplin here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3269723, I don't remember if it's the same as described in the 1st post of the same thread.

I ended up trying the vs700c_w81d_v201 drivers rather than the vs700_w81d_v202 drivers and it's working again. Thanks :)

Would you mind sending me exactly what you used to get it working? If I can get out of this frickin' uninstall-loop I will give it a shot.

Link to the modified driver.

Make sure the others are uninstalled first through the Windows Uninstaller in Control Panel.

Turn off driver signatures:
Turned off the driver-signing signatures:  I'll outline the procedure here for Windows 10.
-Find the power options on the Start Menu (the microsoft symbol in the bottom left).
-Hold down the SHIFT key while you click Restart.
-Once your computer has rebooted you will be able to choose the Troubleshoot option.
-Head into Advanced options.
-Head into Startup Settings.
-You will select the restart option.
-After it restarts again, you will be given a list of startup settings. The one we are looking for is “Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the F7 key.
-Your PC will then reboot and you will be able to install unsigned drivers without any error message.

Find the files and unrar them into their own folder. Don't use the installer in the first folder but instead, find the 64bit installer in the subfolders. It should be vs700c_w81d_v201 Fix > Files > 64bit > Setup.exe.

Make sure dip switch 1 is set to "on" on the back of your 700c

Make sure the control is turned off and run the installer. It will do it's thing and you turn it on when asked.

After that, it should install properly.

No, everything behaves the same as it did before.

With quite a few reports of successful VS-700 installations on win10 and considerable time gone by - is that what you all agree on?

All functionality there?
Stability of the audio driver same, better, worse?
Worth the effort?

Holy crap, IT WORKED! I am back in business. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I was about to heave it into the bin.

Something about your driver file made the difference for me. Anyone else using it in standalone mode who haven't yet gotten it working should give this a go.

Also, my uninstall loop was b/c there was still an entry under the Control Panel-->Programs Uninstall dialog, even though I had uninstalled from the Roland driver file AND the Device Manager.

Whew. I feel a whole lot better now.

I think we all agree that Roland can kiss our asses. They lost an $8000 sale from me this year since I am no longer spending money on a V-Drum kit and getting a Pintech instead.

Functionality was not there for me.
Stability was non-existent for the 700R. I had to dump it and got a UAD Apollo Twin Duo.
Worth the effort for the control surface because I have yet to find one I like better. That's all I can say on my end.

I do agree that Roland won't see anymore of my money. Yet, I don't understand the rest of your post (probably mine was not to the point earlier on): Are you talking about functionality and stability "in general" meaning win7/win8/win10 or did it get worse with the transition to win10 using this hack?

I do have occasional issues with the audio driver crashing on win7 in certain combinations (heavy Kontakt use or AD2+FabFilter) and was wondering whether I could expect similar/better/worse if I migrate to win10 and apply this hack to get the VS700C + VS700R running.

Functionality after moving to W10 was non-existent. I did have some crashes in 7/8 with it but was not nearly as bad as with 10. Some people had good luck transitioning, I was not one of them. Bought a UAD Apollo Twin Duo and it's been a dream to work with.

Check out the exchange between myself and TerraSin above. I was able to use his files and explicit instructions to get my console working as a standalone (I use an RME UFX external sound card).

Re: v700 and Windows 10 2016/05/30 12:14:19 (permalink)
Big thanks to everybody here !!!!

I did the upgrade as outlined here and it worked like charm; everything works like before (IO control, Fantom, VS EXPAND, control surface, ...) but now running on win10 :-)

Excellent info here, regarding best workflow, driver mods, driver signing on/off ... and also the wait you might encounter when installing the VS-700R.

BTW, I did install the VS-700C driver first (which I had not used in standalone mode by itself up to now) and just ran the surface with an Octa-Capture as interface for a while. Then I installed the VS-700R the usual way ...

So now if I want to run without the VS-700R (which may eventually happen), I unplugged the custom I/O cable from the VS700C, plug the USB cable and flip a dip switch ... so less than a minute to go VS700Rless.

Re: How to use V700 win 8 driver in win 10 (also applies to some other Roland drivers) 2016/05/31 17:47:26 (permalink)
Hi everybody... I have "sneak peaking" this tread since its beginnin... As I could notice, it end up working... but looking thru all the posts, I got confuse and am not sure if I will be able to do all the steps right (and fast), to have my system working with win 10... Could anyone kindly send me some sort of "resume" of what exactly I have to do to have it working (VS 700r) with a fresh installation of windows 10?
My studio is my way of living and I cannot spend too much time trying to make it up and running again... It will take me a lot of time, inevitably, to install all softs and plugs I use, as You guys may know... Could someone help me on this one?

Hi Mauricio,

The thread is running long but the upgrade is essentially simple and straight forward if you follow the steps
  1. Full disk image backup (obviously)
  2. Uninstall VS-700R driver (I did actually uninstall all other interface drivers as well e.g. Octa-Capture, Line6, whatever I had used over the years ...)
  3. Prepared the modification to the VS-700R driver as described in post#1 or post#44 (just add the lines indicated in bold)
  4. Keep VS-700 turned off
  5. Upgrade to win 10 (in-place upgrade i.e. keeping files and applications!)
  6. Disable driver signing as described in post#100 (using cmd prompt running as admin) and reboot
  7. Install modified VS-700R driver
  8. Turn VS-700 on when prompted ... wait ... this may take a few minutes where nothing seems to happen ...
  9. Enable driver signing and reboot
  10. All done - everything should be as before

BTW, I also installed the VS-700C driver the same way in case I ever want to use it without the VS-700R (made sense because I will for sure have forgotten about all this in a while)

Hey Rob!!! Thanks a lot for kindly reply...

In fact, I am planning to format my computer and to do a fresh install (from zero) of the Windows 10 OS... I do not have Windows 8, I am running Windows 7 and the installation is not  stable as it were 2 years ago... And I dont have a image of the initial installation (unfortunately).
Can I have VS700r working in this case???

you sure can - but I recommend making notes of what you currently have on the system (because it will be a lot and take to time to install one after the other) and downloading installers like the one for the vs700 I/O upfront so you don't have to go hunting for components when you actually want to work with your system...

Just for the record I own a Studiocat computer and Jim, the owner of the company, took care of my transition for an extremely reasonable fee.
The Roland Hardware is working perfectly.
Purrfectly to be precise.

OK guys, thanks for all the input... I have just one more question...: - Did you have find some real/considerable advantage in using Windows 10 instead of 7? Is there a real gain for our music making rotine or is just "cosmetics"?

Re: How to use V700 win 8 driver in win 10 (also applies to some other Roland drivers) 2016/06/07 12:20:41 (permalink)
I have heard experts say that the core operating system is not that much different from 7 or 8. There must be some reason they want us to have this and I doubt that it's altruistic. ;-)

OK guys, thanks for all the input... I have just one more question...: - Did you have find some real/considerable advantage in using Windows 10 instead of 7? Is there a real gain for our music making rotine or is just "cosmetics"?

I believe in terms of making music it is "just" cosmetics; remembering some research I did before upgrading listed some improvements to MIDI handling and some to the audio core but that does not apply to us as we use ASIO ...

I was holding off upgrading for a long time, actually said I won't do it at all ... but meanwhile I have migrated 2 systems and in July will upgrade the 2 remaining ones. Main reasons were actually the fear of losing functionality of "legacy" devices (but drivers are no longer an issue as this thread shows) and wasting a lot of time (i.e. upgrading for gaining nothing).

Now - the 2nd system I upgraded I did a complete rebuild (because it was win7 32 bit) - and it took forever to reinstall everything and reconfigure to my environment - so that was not a good experience (but it's done and that older DAW now definitely works better).

With the remaining systems I will go with the in-place upgrade in July as this is smooth and easy - mostly because this will bring all systems to the same OS, with no system tuning tweaks required anymore.

What's not so great is that coming from win 8.1 you only qualify for win10 Home. So there I will have to spend extra $$, basically just to have OS updates configurable and don't get any unwanted surprise updates ...

Also does the v700 I/O still work but you just chose to use the other Hardware?
WSS

Sorry for the late reply Steve but saw you got it figured out with Jim's help.
Even though I still have the VS700R I/O, I'm not using it. I've setup the Apollo as it was a standalone effects processor which feeds into the MOTU 1248 which is what I select as my driver in Sonar.
Cheers,
