guys one question
I wanna make sure after installing the modified driver on windows 10, both unit will work properly or there are some stuff not functional in windows 10? I prefer stick with windows 8.1 if they are not working properly in windows 10 as they are in windows 8.1.
Thanks

I haven't noticed any incompatibility. I mean the Fantom doesn't work but I don't care since it hasn't for years.

Hi Jayson. I thought about pulling the trigger on an Apollo but I have the uad card in the machine already.
I'm just glad everything works, I would really really really hate to have to invest in more Hardware. I'm glad they don't try to force us to replace our guitars and microphones every few years. :D

yes ... and as mentioned before - if you do an in-place upgrade to win10 all software remains installed and working (i.e. I/O control panel) - if you do a clean win10 installation, you need to dig out an old installer for the vs-700 IO control app

I am wondering if the Anniversary update of Windows 10 (with number 1607) makes problem with VS drivers. Or is everything updating smoothly with the VS700 i/o and console ?

Thanks
I applied the WIndows 10 Anniversay Update (1607) over Windows 10 (1511).
This makes the driver down (it seems it's an expected behavior on the Anniversay Update : it disables installed unsigned driver). So I confirm what Jon Sasor wrote : I had to re-install the VS drivers.

VS700 I/O and console both works well with Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607).

Just to clarify, did you uninstall the drivers before updating to the Anniversary Update and then reinstall as per hacked instructions or just update Win 10, uninstall and reinstall the tweaked drivers?

1. Clearly I did not uninstall the VS700 drivers before updating Windows 10.
2. After the Anniversary Update is applied, the VS driver installer will first of all uninstall the VS driver (so your computer will also be restarted by the uninstaller). Once they are uninstalled, the VS drivers can be installed again (make sure you turn off the "Driver signature checking").

So I just completed updating to the Anniversary update and have my VS700c operating by following the instructions. But just a word of warning, when you uninstall the driver, use the program that is in the same location as the setup program for your modified INF file.  I initially used uninstall program from the Control Panel and uninstalled the VS-700 Control Surface Plug-in which uninstalled the VS700.dll file (DOH!).  If this happens to you, you will need to get the VS700.dll file from this location:

https://github.com/Cakewalk/Cakewalk-Control-Surface-SDK/blob/master/Bin/x64/VS700.dll?raw=true

And then download the following program from Cakewalk to register the plugin in Sonar.

Hello All,

I cannot begin to thank you all, each of you, enough for saving my arse time and time again on here when it comes to this forsaken (literally) V-700 system.  I have been using my V-700 set (C and R) system just fine all these months in Windows 10 without any issue, when suddenly after what seemed like a routine update (Windows and NVidia, I think), my OS could no longer find my hardware.  Sonar Platinum couldn't find my Master bus, and I was freaking out!

I came across this thread, managed to uninstall the drivers, etc, etc.  Initially, I too was having trouble with "install/uninstall" issue.  Then I read about how to turn off the driver-signing signatures.

Thank you TerraSin and others for providing the instructions and files.  The updated setup files I downloaded here was simply magic!

Here's my new issue, however.  I went through all the steps, and now my V700C is working just fine in Sonar, by itself.  But when I flip the number 1 dip switch back off on the back of V700C, connect the I/O cable, and then turn on the V700R, I lose everything in Sonar.  I need the V700R because it is my primary I/O and the master audio goes out from it.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get the V700R working again with the V700C?  Is there a similar install process I have to go through for the Rack unit?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

BTW, I did install the VS-700C driver first (which I had not used in standalone mode by itself up to now) and just ran the surface with an Octa-Capture as interface for a while. Then I installed the VS-700R the usual way ...

Hi Rob, I seem to be unable to get the VS-700R to work now.  I have had success installing the VS-700C, but it is in stand alone mode.  Can you please help me out by letting me know how you went about installing the Rack after you installed the Console?  I can't seem to recall the "usual way" that you mentioned. Thanks in advance!

PS:  I tried sending you a PM, but I don't think it sent through.  I can't see it in my sent folder.  So I am trying here.  If the PM went through, I am sorry for the redundant question.

First of all, thank you all for the work in getting the V700 working in windows 10!  I had use this forum earlier in the year to get my V700 console working after upgrading from windows 7.  Now, however it has stopped working since Windows force updated to 1607 last night.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver using the previous instructions that had worked for me in the past with no luck.  I got to the point where the install program asked me to plug the device in.  When I did windows made it's usual "found a new device" sound but the VS-700 showed up in the device manager with an exclamation point and a question mark icon and the driver install program never found the device to continue the installation.  I then attempted to uninstall the driver again and now I get this screen every time I try to reinstall.  No matter what I have tried I can't seem to get past this screen.

tkarman, are you installing the drivers for just the console or the set (console and rack)?

I had this issue myself yesterday, and I was up all night wrestling with it.  The Win update to build 1607 (anniversary update) screwed me over big time.

It is working now, however.  You will need to go through the steps on turning off driver signatures.  Check the previous page of posts in this thread. TerraSin posted on #184 the steps.

Thanks for the reply Beeej21.  I do only have the v700 console.  I also have turned off Driver Signatures every time I've attempted this.  At one point early on in my attempts I had the install program working all the way to the final step but the actual detection of the v700 console didn't happen when I powered it up.  At that point it did show up in the device manager, however again, the install program never detected it.  Since then I only get the above message "An Error Has Occurred...." ever time I tried to install.

Re: v700 and Windows 10 2016/09/23 02:16:54 (permalink)
Hey tkarman,

Okay, I had to go through this because the "anniversary update" screwed me over as well.  Let's make sure you are covering all the bases.

1.  Have you uninstalled the drivers using the appropriate unistall package file?  Usually the same one found in the directory of the setup file you are running?  Don't use the add/remove program feature.

2. Is dip switch number 1 on the back of the console turned "ON"? - all the rest should be off

3.  Is the setup.exe file you are using modded (meaning that you've made the necessary changes to the .INI file)?  IF you are like me and can't trust yourself to make the changes correctly, then TerraSin posted this link earlier in this thread to the modded files:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/ziawk192g0qbk49/vs700c_w81d_v201%20Fix.rar?dl=0

4.  Are you running the setup.exe file from the 64bit folder? (you should be)

Those are the primary things I can think of that I had to do in order to get Win 10 build 1607 to recognize the V700C again.

Yup, all those are a check.  I didn't have the dip switch down but I tried it again with number 1 off to no avail.  It has been up this whole time in the "ON" position and the console was working fine before the 1607 update.  What I'm wondering is if there is a registry key I need to delete that is making the driver install think that there is still installed drivers.  I've searched around in the registry to no avail.

Man... I can't think of anything else that we are missing here, tkarman.  You might right though, if you have already made sure that you are turning off your driver signatures each time, then there may be some residual files somewhere or something in the registry making your OS think it isn't fully uninstalled.

Time to elevate your issue to the next level, cuz I am already out of ideas.  Hopefully someone else can weigh in here and give you some advice or feedback based on their experience.

****SOLVED****

First let me point out that if you only have the console and no I/O(Rack) dip 1 needs to be "ON" or it will not show up properly in device manager.  All other dips should be "OFF"

If anyone else has my problem with the driver install constantly telling you that there is an error and to uninstall the drivers ----> here is the solution.

I decided to try and force install the driver from Device Manager and it worked!!!  First boot into troubleshoot mode and disabled driver signing by selecting number "7".  Then turn on the VS-700 Console.  Open up Device Manager by right clicking on the windows icon and selecting it.  Then right click on the VS-700C in the device manager and click on properties.   From here click the "Drivers" tab and select "Update Driver".  Select the second option "Browse my Computer for driver software".  Click "Browse" and then select the 64 bit "Files" folder of the VS-700C *fixed* drivers that you have either edit the *.ini file in or downloaded the already fixed drivers to.

..\vs700c_w81d_v201 Fix\Files\64bit\Files

Select next and it will tell you the drivers aren't signed.  Click install anyway and if all is good it should install and be working immediately.

Wow!!  Good work!!!  So glad you found this workaround!  With this latest Anniversary Update from Windows, I know there are going to be quite a few of us struggling with getting our VS700 units functional again, and your resolution is certainly going to be appreciated.

You are correct, tkarman, the dip switch should be "ON" not off.  That was my bad, and I will go back and edit my post to reflect that so no one will be lead astray if they read my post.  TerraSin's post (#184) said it should be ON as well, which is the post I referred to earlier.

Thanks for posting your solution on here!!

Did any of you guys with a functional VS-700R / VS-700C on 1607 come from a clean build (as opposed to in-place upgrades)? I read somewhere that the driver signing disabled trick to install legacy drivers only works for upgraded machines ...

I didn't come to Windows 10 from a fresh install of Windows.  I upgraded from Win 7 Ultimate.

Nevermind. I gave it a go and everything is fine. VS-700R and VS-700C installed on all systems with win10 #1607 without any issues (well, the issue was to get 1607 itself installed because one machine just wouldn't want to). So contrary to what is out there somewhere on the web it did not make a difference whether you come from a clean build or an in place upgrade.
