Whoa, Robby, ya' got another winner here.  You are truly the master of the ballad.  You just do these so, SO well.  Everything was great, but I felt that those little punchy tom fills were very effective when you threw them in.  Sorry, buddy, but I'm just out of words here... another super ballad.

But where in the heck do you come up with all these images?

Thanks Phil, I actually wrote this one based on an idea that was sparked with a friend on FB? :-) It was done in 2 days. I guess this is my genera? I didn't set out to be that guy, but I'm that guy.

Hey, Robby,

How's it going, buddy?

I actually posted about two paragraphs about this song four or five days ago (I think it was mix #3), but I went back and can't find my post anywhere.  Don't you just love this forum software sometimes?

Anyway, all I can say is that this new mix is excellent, and that the couple little issues that I had originally written about in my "ghost post" about some minor panning issues and some mud, are definitely fixed up nicely now!

Top-notch songwriting and arrangement, perfect vocals, rich instrumentation (love the strings), and you have a really great sounding mix!

Nice work, bro!
Bob

Due to working my bollocks off day and night, it looks like i missed the previous five mixes.

This track is your loudest and proudest yet. Everything is so clear and well separated.
The vocals as usual are goosebump inducing. How you have never been scouted is beyond my comprehension.

Love this very much Robby.
Mark.
Hey Mark, I'm glad you got a chance to listen :-) I just tweaked that piano a little brighter, and also cut it out for a bit so it's only guitar and vox just after the break. Maybe 2011 is the year I can sell one! Hope springs eternal :-)

Well, I didn't get around to listening to 1-5, but #6 sure sounds good to me.

If there's more work to be done in the mix, I sure can't hear it.    If I was in charge, I would say cut and print.

It's a sickness... We edit the hell out of this stuff until it drives us crazy!! :-) Thanks for listening and for commenting :-)

Hey Robby,

Love the lyric and the feel of this song.

The middle solo is a bit laid back (mixwise) for me.

Well done Robby. A radio ready hit. Seriously, this should make the young girls swoon. I thought the lead could come up a tad, bout otherwise a a good mix.

Re:New love song for Valentines Day :-) Remix #1 2/12/11 2011/03/01 00:03:49 (permalink)
OK, I started out just trying to bump the lead guitar a little per Mark's recommendation? Then I was like, you know the snare could be brighter? Then I played with the limiter settings on the lead vox, and then all hell broke lose and I was like Dolly Parton trying to stuff those things in place...? I hope I didn't screw it up, really. I made a pant load of  changes? But most of them subtle, I think it's probably dun this time, Brooks and Dunn! Thanks to all who helped me make it better :-)

More individual comments to follow. Now I'm on to the new one. I'm doing "my first" Instrumental :-) As a singer? That's not easy... What's even harder? Is naming instrumentals... When I do songs, I always start with the hook? Which is the title? Like this one… “In time…” An easy one to name?

So with an Instrumental? How in the hell do you name it? I’m struggling… Right now I’m going with “Geese farts on a muggy day?” When I actually record and then post it? I may be looking for some help in the naming department…

Thanks again for hanging with me on “In time” I really like the way it turned out, it’s a pretty one :-) I didn't set out to be that guy? But I’m “that guy…”

------------

P.S., I've just come to the current end of "an extremely stressful time..." Some folks, Janet and others know about it. We just went through another round of layoffs at work. I made it through "again..." 19 years... It was extremely stressful, I almost threw up this morning on the way to work actually? But I managed to dodge another bullet... Hopefully some nice quiet, stress free, time now... No legal problems, no layoffs... Just time to work on and enjoy my music and that of my friends. I'm looking forward to at lest a few months with less stress... I hope you're all doing well, or as good as you can anyway. That's all we can hope for.

Peace...

I actually tweaked it a few more times, the vox at the end? There is really an art (I'm trying to learn...) to riding the faders? On important parts like the vox? I mean we use compressors... We use limiters.. But... There is also an art to knowing how? And when? And how much... to "ride the faders..." It's as important as anything else in the song? If not more so? I wish this was easier... The whole technical aspect? But it's not... It's hard.

Really good song Robby, that's a fine piece of writing. Got a little Bryan Adams edge to your voice here and there - nice! You've done a great vocal mix on this one, right up front and centre. Definitely some 'Slashing' in the lead guitar, love the tone. Really liked the way you introduced the bass, cool stuff.

James
James, one of my most respected fellow forumites! Well? Next to Jonboy "of course..." He's in a class all by himself... I really wish he'd stop sending me these pictures?

Thank you so much. Yes, to people who have never heard me and ask about my music? I am self described as, Don Henley, Brian Adams and Jackson Browne in a blender, you hit frappe, pour it and and you get me, and it's not crapay... LOL! Of course I'm not as good as any of them, but to someone who's never heard, when I'm trying to describe it, that's how I do it, so yeah, Mr. Adams, "big" influence on me... Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm working hard on trying to improve, I really appreciate it. I miss the old Acrobat Supper stuff you used to do with Tim, I hope he's well. No disrespect whatsoever to Larry, he has tremendous talent as well.

Good mix to start. The vocals are good but not sure about the effect on the vocals. Effects could be hiding the natural quality & tenderness of the vocal, too bright? Instruments are well played. Nice listen tonite.

Hi Robby,

I really like this.  Love your vocal sound.  Really melodic piece.  Great hook.  The fill when the drums come in is great.

The only thing I'm not that excited about is the strings.  I'm not sure it wouldn't be stronger/more organic sounding with them removed... or maybe try a different patch... maybe a string quartet type sound  w less verb?

Anyway, really strong tune.

Peace,

Ian

PS - thanks for the gentle reminder!

PPS- It looks like no one else shares my opinion about the strings.  This could just be a personal preference.

Dang, Robby, this is nice stuff!  Not much to add here - the song is well-written, catchy, and your delivery in both the vocals and the guitar is nothing short of stellar as far as I'm concerned.  Mix sounds good on my end (harmon/kardon 2.1 computer speakers.....annoying my co-workers!).

Not much to say, the music speaks for itself.  Sounds great!

FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what version I'm hearing or if there were other versions.

This is not a complaint, just a request, please don't take it any other way.

When the song ends, I think it would be cool to have a short pause or maybe a synth fade away, then a comeback lead guitar solo and then fade. LOL, your probably laughing at me for mentioning that. I'm terrible at explanations of ideas. Anyway, maybe you'll get it or maybe you wont.

Either way!!!!

BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bobby
Thanks Bobby, I welcome and consider any and all suggestions and recommendations, thanks very much for listening and for commenting :-) I'm' glad you liked it.

Yeah, nothing you can't see at the beach, South Beach that is? If you've never been to South Beach Miami? You need to go... Just for the people watching. Some groups don't want you to be able to buy beer on Sunday? And if they had their druthers? You wouldn't buy it the other 6 days either...

Other groups don't want women to go around without Berkas? Thank God we still live in a country that is still somewhat free... Remember, edgy and obscene are two different lines. I clearly linger around the 1st? However, never approach or cross the 2nd ;-) Freedom! Let it ring baby!! Censorship may seem like a good idea when you are of like mind with the censors? But what if you aren't? What happens when they right you a ticket (or worse...) because your woman isn't properly covered? They believe it VERY strongly... You don't? Tough! It's dangerous :-(

P.S., I'm on pain meds? So anything I say should be taken with a grain or two of salt.

A big collective thank you to everyone else, I really appreciate that people took the time to listen and to comment. This is my passion. It keeps me off of the streets, not sure what I would do without it, would hate to think of my life without music. Now back to my new (first) instrumental!
