Insane problems with this update (2016.12) *** Solved (for ME!)

So far I've only installed it on my laptop.

I've now rolled back to the October release

Symptoms last night:

  • Plugin Manager stalling during a Rescan (Yes I did a reset). Always seem to stall on either Rapture Pro, Rapture Session or Z3TA+2
  • Failure to find existing plugins, even when on the rare occasions that the rescan "finished"
  • Crashing when loading any 32 bit plugin (I get the "Sonarplt.exe has stopped" working message)

Rolling back has cured every problem.
I'm so glad I always install updates on this laptop which is purely for testing purposes
I might wipe SONAR entirely from it and do a clean install later on

Lifetime updates or Lifetime of Hell?? just kidding....
I always wait and watch the forum... I'm seeing negatives like yours for this one,,,so I wait it out until next round. So far I do about every 3rd update.

Same here Jonesey - multiple problems. I always take a disc image before installing updates so I have rolled back to 2016 -09 (skipped 10 as it was a bit light on) and am happily working away gain.  Hopefully the next update will iron some things out. I guess the beauty of the system is that you CAN always roll back to what works for you.

Dumb question: Are the updates cumulative? If so, do you inherit the bugs from the last update with the next one?

Glad to hear you had a trouble free update John. These hiccups are rare and just the nature of the beast with so many PC configurations out there - and a pretty substantial update this month! A little time and all will be well I'm sure:)

Yes John this update has caused more problems than anything I've seen since the dark days of X1a/b.

They all seem to be related to the Plugin Manager so I just hope the Bakers have enough information to work out what went wrong and issue a fix.

Updates are indeed cumulative but that's not to say any given bug wasn't eliminated prior to releasing a new update, otherwise no bugs would ever be squashed!

This is utterly bizarre.

As stated above, last night I rolled back to what I thought was 2016.10

Well I was just helping someone out with a synth problem and noticed that the Synth Tab was no longer in the browser. Imagine my surprise to find it under Views > Synth Rack View

Now my curiosity was totally piqued so I dug a little deeper and according Help > About, I'm running version 22.11.0 Build 111.

All of my plugins are present and correct, including the ones which were causing me grief yesterday.

Could someone with a known, working version confirm what the latest build number is please.

I did adopt the early release the day before if this is a factor.

Interestingly, the CCC shows 2016.10 as a rollback option.

current build is 111 Jonesey.
Sorry to hear of your problems man. but hope it is cleared up now.
Im actually doing a marathon of sorts here. running great.
I personally AM a fan of rolling updates, but with that comes Ye ole double edged sword.
At least with the old way, the updates came once a year you knew you were stable for that year.
However if you weren't stable, you had to wait another year hoping you would see improvements.

Whenever I have issues with the plug in manager I re personalize by holding down CNTRL and starting sonar.
This rebuilds the library and does a rescan/reset.

you must have done something. Possibly did the "Jonesey dance backwards or something ?
Typically Voodoo like this works for me all the time. Once I ate a banana side ways and Sonar started working again.

This update has caused random crashes for me as well.

Nothing wrong with the plug-ins scanning, but seems to crash specially while using East/West Play vsti.

I've submitted all reports to Cakewalk via their Crash Report Submission dialog.

I'm not seeing any issues with the latest update either.  I am wondering what the difference is between those with issues and those without?

Something that made me go hmmmm?,  is this comment:

Bristol_Jonesey

  • Plugin Manager stalling during a Rescan (Yes I did a reset). Always seem to stall on either Rapture Pro, Rapture Session or Z3TA+2
  • Failure to find existing plugins, even when on the rare occasions that the rescan "finished"
  • Crashing when loading any 32 bit plugin (I get the "Sonarplt.exe has stopped" working message)

Since I installed Platinum x64, I have made an effort to avoid installing 32-bit plugins.  I keep X3e 32-bit installed for that purpose.  Perhaps something not quite right with the VST scanner in the new?

One other thought, is the problem only occurring on Windows 10, or are Win 7 & 8 users also seeing these issues?  I have avoided Windows 10 Version 1607 (Anniversary Update) so far, and have all Windows updates locked down until I am ready for them.

Try renaming your AUD.INI file and letting SONAR build a new one on startup.

This is funny because I just paid for the free melda plugin bundle upgrade + got a new meter plug and my crashes coincided with that so a lot of false causation theories just went out the window. fwiw whenever it crashes on me, if I reboot and restart it seems to go okay. Although I haven't installed yet at my studio - just at home where I don't do much besides following along with tutorials etc. and a midi framework or two. Think I'll wait before I update the studio Plat...

Just replace ini with bac. Bac is short for backup. Its a way to save a copy of a file without moving it. This idea goes back all the way to DOS.

Interestingly, I had problems at first too. Things just didn't work. SONAR would crash upon opening, UI glitches, various weirdnesses. It was late, so I went to sleep and figured I'd say something on the forums and write emails to Cakewalk with issues after I'd had a chance to quantify the issues a bit more.

So the next day I started SONAR and everything worked correctly, and has been working fine ever since. I can't help but wonder if some of these things are Windows update related. Sometimes it doesn't seem Windows updates don't "stick" until after a restart or two, and I wonder if SONAR comes along for the ride.

Well, that's probably it....... I imagined the Keebler Elves dealing with it while I slept the other night.... LOL

If you, Craig, have similar things happening (or not! ), then I don't feel bad at all......   I think I'm doing something wrong... so obviously that's not true.
