It's amazing how many folks have to get their "dig" in, even though there is really nothing to "dig" about in the particular topic!

thomasabarnes Boo hoo hoo. I didn't get emailed this new survey. I sure wish I had got it! Maybe, it just was sent to the SONAR 2015 Lineup users. My latest SONAR purchase was X3 Producer.
I didn't receive it either, and I am a full-fledged, totally up-to-date purchaser and user of Sonar Platinum.
Yeah, I'm paid in full for Splat, and didn't get the email either.

The survey is targeted towards targets that weren't previously targeted but may be potential targets in future in addition to targets that were previously targeted and there may be other targets that need targeting.

Karyn .... Any company that targets a particular demographic for a survey (other than simply their customers) is biasing the result towards the answers they want before a single question is asked, which makes the survey pointless anyway.
Companies do this all the time, and it's not pointless at all. Even Cakewalk. I got a survey recently (5/20) from them asking me why I had not upgraded yet. They were looking for folks like me, and not the general user base. So in this case, they might have been shooting for some specific user base as well (no idea which, though). Also, I think people are unintentionally falling for the "Hawthorne Effect", which means people are observing increases in satisfaction and productivity just by the mere fact that a company is making a measurement (i.e., a survey).

kevo Surveys are usually sent out to a targeted demographic. That is why not everyone receives a request to take part in the survey. Since a link is now posted for the survey anyone can take the survey including those who do not even own a CW product let alone the latest version of Sonar. Not sure how happy CW will be over the posting of the link unless it was done with their blessing. Which if that were the case CW themselves would have posted a link to the survey at the top of the forum.
I was thinking the same. The survey links appear to have identifier strings which probably helps cakewalk identify who responded or not - which would give them an option to send a follow up email etc. If that's the case then multiple different responses tied to one ID, and the inability to validate that they are coming from actual Cakewalk customers, would probably nullify that IDs responses? I found the questions to be a clear indication that Cakewalk is listening to it's user base which is certainly a great thing!

That is sort of shooting yourself in the foot to have a "targeted demographic" that doesn't include your entire customer base (there is even a question as to which version you use in the survey, so is not even Platinum-specific). On the flip side... the wise man would trim down specifics and survey every DAW user they could find. Knowing your "enemy" better than they know themselves is always an advantage.

kevo Surveys are usually sent out to a targeted demographic. That is why not everyone receives a request to take part in the survey.
You only have to look at the first question to know it was not targeted at anyone. Any company that targets a particular demographic for a survey (other than simply their customers) is biasing the result towards the answers they want before a single question is asked, which makes the survey pointless anyway.
Kevo is right. There was a previous survey that some misguided forum member posted a link to - it skewed the results. It was targeted at the people to whom it was sent - Cakewalk chose them. It must have been a waste of money for Cakewalk. Posting a link to it could ruin the whole survey. Even people who don't own Sonar could now respond - "godparticle", anyone? As a forum host, Karen is probably privy to more information than the rest of us, I don't know. Surely if Cakewalk wanted everyone to respond, they would have posted a link themselves, rather than email it? Anyhow, Karen may be party to insider knowledge that we are not - I merely point out that Kevo has a point. efited to show history

I'm confident that, if Cakewalk did not want this survey to be completed by all and sundry, even perhaps non-users, they would have said so in their correspondence to each "targeted" individual. If they didn't, then anyone could have innocently posted the same link anywhere on the internet. charlyg I just figured no one would listen to a noob...
I think it must have been the upper case character used that drew my attention... Plus, it was posted in one of the more "serious" *ahem* forums here

I put down that I really hope there's some improvements to MIDI editing. Sonar is behind DAWs like Cubase and Studio One in that regard, and I'd even go as far as to say it's behind even REAPER. There are CAL scripts but they often don't function correctly.

I don't want to go on about this - but this has not always been the case. Sometime (around X1 or X2) a survey was sent out by email, wanting feedback from EXISTING Sonar X(x) users, asking for their feedback, etc. Someone posted a link to the survey on here, and Cakewalk were anything but happy about it - and said so in these forums. I am sure that is not the case here, but you can see the reason for my initial post. I am sure that others remember this, too.
