Susan G If CW didn't want anyone who received the email to publish the link, they probably would have said something in the email to that effect. AFAIK, they didn't, so I would be very surprised if they didn't anticipate that the link might be published here. -Susan
I don't want to go on about this - but this has not always been the case. Sometime (around X1 or X2) a survey was sent out by email, wanting feedback from EXISTING Sonar X(x) users, asking for their feedback, etc. Someone posted a link to the survey on here, and Cakewalk were anything but happy about it - and said so in these forums. I am sure that is not the case here, but you can see the reason for my initial post. I am sure that others remember this, too.

CW has had a while to say they weren't happy about it and they haven't yet, but yes, I can see the reason for your initial post. Thanks- -Susan

Yes, they have now, but hadn't when I posted. Anyhow - I think it is a good sign that we are getting so many of these surveys by email. It makes me think that they are paying attention to customer feedback - both on these forums, and outside as well.

The reason I originally didn't post the link was that I didn't think it my place to do that. After Karyn assured us that there was no problem with Cakewalk I was asked by several people to put it in my first post. After thinking about the situation I felt it was OK to post the link so put it into my OP to make it easier to get. I think Cakewlk have a responsibility to make their intent known if the email was to a specific audience. It's easy enough to delete the post or the link, contact the "offender" whatever the case.

dubdisciple CW certain has my info and have sent me plenty of surveys over the years. If they wanted my inout they woukd have likely sent me this one.
I assume that it's a random sampling of current users, with enough surveys sent out to create statistically significant results. I'm no expert on statistics, but I'm always amazed how few people sampling theory says you need to get valid results.

kevo Surveys are usually sent out to a targeted demographic. That is why not everyone receives a request to take part in the survey. Since a link is now posted for the survey anyone can take the survey including those who do not even own a CW product let alone the latest version of Sonar. Not sure how happy CW will be over the posting of the link unless it was done with their blessing. Which if that were the case CW themselves would have posted a link to the survey at the top of the forum.
I was thinking the same. The survey links appear to have identifier strings which probably helps cakewalk identify who responded or not - which would give them an option to send a follow up email etc. If that's the case then multiple different responses tied to one ID, and the inability to validate that they are coming from actual Cakewalk customers, would probably nullify that IDs responses? I found the questions to be a clear indication that Cakewalk is listening to it's user base which is certainly a great thing!
I tested this ; thinking that perhaps the survey was tied to my email address. That doesn't seem to be the case. I have Sonar on my studio PC and my laptop and was able to complete the survey on both of them. With the second one I didn't press the submit button. For a further test then I tried to take the survey again from my laptop where I submitted the first survey and I was taken to the post submission screen. It seems you can do one per computer. Does that mean they're are collecting a machine identifier?

You can do it more than once from the same computer. Just use another browser, or clear your cookies, or use the same browser in 'Private Browsing' mode, it's pretty simple, I don't think there is any 'machine identifier' as such, just something as simple as cookies or something. I've just completed it 4 times as a test.

lol . . . It was a joke, because you seemed to jump to the conclusion, that I actually went through and submitted my 4 tests, not giving the benefit of the doubt that I may have, as you done, not actually submitting 3 of those 'tests'. So it was only one survey actually submitted by me, but it is possible to do many multiple submissions if you so choose. Although in my survey, I did mark of no interest anything to do with iOS, android and notation/Staff view, because well, it's of no interest to me :)

http://www.surveysystem.com/sscalc.htm is a convenient high-level calculator with good explanations of the terms. While it is very true that a large sample is not necessary, care must also be taken not to "cherry pick" the crowd. Sort of touched on my personal pet peeve of +/- values always missing from "facts." Took the survey this morning and then immediately upgraded from Professional to Platinum. This was just offered until the end of June and was to good to pass up. $175 Can. Cakewalk is doing all the right things to catch fish. New and old. I say they are moving up and there is no turning back for the company. Aren't you glad we stuck with them? The survey asked me and implied WAVE EDITING!!!! heck ya, I thought for a change they asked me the RIGHT questions. I had nothing to add in the comments dialog other than my minor quibble about the new model requiring your DAW have access to a good internet connection to stay updated. I now own Platinum but it might be a week or so before I can go to town and download it. But it's Summer and no time to do much recording anyhow.

Yep...yet another shout-out to the development team. Judging by the content of the survey and how it lines up with many of the popular threads on this forum, it does indeed appear that they're using customer feedback to set priorities and come up with a development strategy for future updates. Either that or they don't read the forum at all, but have a really good sixth sense about what people are discussing/requesting. :)
