It's not my kind of "jazz", but it is rather nice. 
 
I prefer my "jazz" to be a bit less composed, and more just played, but it is just fine.

Though that kind of smooth jazz is my favorite type.  Like the Rippingtons for example.

Bob Nelson update: I start on his 1987 material tomorrow!  (Only 3,923 more albums to go - or so it seems! LOL.)

I've always thought it interesting how many different styles he has throughout the years.  There's soooo many songs that sound like they were influenced by or influenced other songs.  Very much like Tangerine Dream in that respect.
 
I like most of it, probably the ones I like least (a relative thing) are the ones where he's doing too much playing around with technology and sampling loops (but only because I've heard too much of this type of music over that last decades).
 
Like I said, I hear so many other bands in what he plays (like Tangerine Dream, Roxy Music, Gary Numan, Brian Eno, Art Of Noise, Japan, etc., etc.), but I LIKE all those bands!  It's been a long time since I've played his material and I'm playing it the same way that I used to: as one big playlist, so it's hard to associate songs with the albums they're on.  That said, of his early stuff, I like the Red Noise (BBD to solo transition) album Sound On Sound (which is where that online magazine got their name from) and Chimera (which is a bit more upbeat and musical than a lot of his ambient efforts).
 
Too bad I'm trying to do some tutorials right now.  If I was just working on the PC these could be playing all day and night in the background - lol.

I'm finally into the 1990's with Bob Nelson, but I took a break last night and today and listened to some CCR, Byrds and Deep Purple.  Now, back to another tutorial!  Yay...

Oh well, new job, won't be long until I can add a 74th Bill Nelson album.

Has audio engineering really come on THAT much since the 50's? I'm frequently amazed by how great recordings from that era sounded. Warm, vibrant and focused. Love this old Mel Torme song.
