craigb Noice! Since I'm afraid that I'm all out of those squid thingies at the moment, I'll just have to resort to enjoying the new material on your site for now... Now, once I get employment again, that will be a different story!
No worries Craig. We also do the 'Soundcloud Shuffle' and there's a new song up; https://soundcloud.com/nettlesmith
I have just got round to listening to this! I wish I had done so earlier. I like it very much and I can see why Dave Gregory was impressed.

I really like this acoustic version Nik Kershaw does of his 80's hit "Wouldn't It Be Good." He's a great singer and I always loved his singles as a kid, he really knows how to put an interesting chord progression together and in this version the chords are even more colorful. Sounds like his voice hasn't deteriorated at all.

Can't believe that was 30 years ago. One of the first song I played with a band. Actually, that was one of the two cover songs we played. IIRC, the other was Judas Priest's Love Bites. The rest of our repertoire was beginners attempts at originals.

Just discovered this, a bluesy collaboration between electronic producer Nicolas Jaar and guitarist Dave Harrington which makes me want to light up one of those comedy cigarettes. Actually the whole album "Psychic" is great.

Grrrrrrrr ... can't check this out at work ... which song? The best Sandy Denny song ever, for me, is the last thing she recorded ... one more chance ... and in the remastered album (rising for the moon) there is a piano version that is just ... insane ... it's even better than the violin/guitar duet! And then there is Reynardine ... one of the prettiest things ever recorded! I dare Bapu or anyone here to even try! Couple more things: 1) The Ken Russell special on Folk music has incredible stuff on it, including one very early Fairport piece. 2) Tony Palmer's film of FC in concert is also very nice with lots of Richard Thompson. It's on DVD. From 1970

In memory of all those brave souls who gave their lives in the First World War... Saxon - Kingdom of the Cross What is this place across the fields Where poppies stretch and sway In Flanders, days of war are gone But memories will remain Comrades of their different coats Came to fight and die From all sides they stood and fought And fell beneath the sky Where is this land where I am now A million spirits cry A generation loved and lost Never asking why It didn't matter much at all To the generals how you died But to your families back at home You were heroes side by side The unknown soldier never known A cross to mark your grave But we remember what you did In our hearts you will remain Where is this land where I am now A million spirits cry A generation loved and lost Never asking why.... So wave the flags and say goodbye To a generation lost They're marching into history To the kingdom The kingdom of the cross Across the Somme and Flanders lay A generation gone Came to fight the war of wars The father and the son Marching bands and cheers of joy Sent you on your way To face the bloody battlefields And lives just thrown away An inch of ground was heavy won and lost Too much a price to pay Young men lost Their future gone That's all there is to say.... So wave the flags and say goodbye To a generation lost They're marching into history To the kingdom The kingdom of the cross The papers said you'd all be home for Christmas The politicians sang their battle hymn Soon the guns will start the slaughter And the end of innocence will begin There's no one left that made it home Their eyes will see no more Gone to meet their fallen friends In Flanders' fields of war.... In the kingdom of the cross Lay a generation gone Remember they were men like us Remember everyone So wave your flags and say goodbye To a generation lost They're marching into history To the slaughter and the loss Remember A generation lost They're marching out together To the kingdom To the kingdom of the cross

Was gonna say that the movie footage was from "Das Boot" ... totally gut ripping end of the film ... they make through everything in the war in every condition, and when they arrive at home ... boom ... it's over.
